My 1st time here, out on a day trip and drove an hour before stopping for breakfast. I'm sad it's so far away , it's great . It would be my #1 breakfast joint . The service was quick and friendly , the meal was perfect and plentiful. My coffee was always full . Alright so they've gained a star over the last few years. We're back to the original 'brand' Thread City. Hoppy Days didn't really take off name wise but I don't actually know why they switched it back. I came here last weekend for a late breakfast after boycotting them for over a year. The issue has since been resolved because they don't seem to close early randomly anymore. They seem to be fully staffed and happy to work there. My husband is a risk taking celiac and says he hasn't had any issues but I'd be weary if you're a celiac reading this (they do have a dedicated toaster for the gf bread) but it is a small kitchen and everyone is working so fast! Their food is hugely portioned so there's no way anyone in the group will leave hungry. It's diner food, don't expect to be blown away. It's pricey but remember- the portions!! read more

Had breakfast with my daughter here. I hit the chocolate chip pancake with bacon. My daughter got a gluten free break. She loved her sandwich I really enjoyed my pancake but it was so big I couldn't eat the whole thing no matter how hard I tried. The coffee was really good also. Our only complaint was with the bacon it had to much fat on it for us. We are very picky about our bacon. We will stop in again sometime soon as they have gluten free options where a lot of other breakfast places don't. The staff was very friendly and on task. My wife and I often meet up with her parents for meals in Willimantic, usually at WilliBrew but we had the need to meet for breakfast recently and my nephew said Thread City was good. What a sweet place!!! It's quite large and very homey. The staff couldn't have been more welcoming when we arrived and they sat us in a roomy booth. I am always a person who stalks the reviews, menu and photos of a place before I get there so I was prepared for the huge portions (yay!). We all ordered omelets, some off the menu, others make-your-own. I had one with mushrooms, cheese, and turkey sausage. It was gigantic and I ate the whole thing. It must have at least 4 eggs. My rye toast was hearty, possibly homemade and definitely delicious. Our waitress was a breath of fresh air and perfectly flirty with my father in-law but not so much that it bothered my mother in-law. If I lived near this place I could see it being in my list of regular haunts. I will definitely remember it when we're meeting up in the area again. read more

One day my boyfriend and I decided we wanted to try a new breakfast spot so after some searching we went here! It's a cute little spot with great staff. They sat us quickly, even though it was pretty busy. The portions are amazing and so are the prices. We both ordered the big willie which offers: three eggs, home fries, a meat, and pancakes/French toast, toast, and drink. The food was cooked fast and was hot!!! We both added strawberries and whip cream for our French toast. My second time going I ordered the big willie again except getting a chocolate chip pancake instead of French toast and it was HUGE !! The portions are so big we never finish could share if we could. Will definitely keep coming back, anytime I think about breakfast this place comes to mind read more

How is it 2011 and Thread City Diner hasn't been reviewed on Yelp? Makes no sense... (oh, no wonder why I couldn't check in with my iPhone searching nearby places in Willimantic) First, the place is jam-packed. Second, the food was great (might explain why it was so busy). I'll get the one missing star out of the way - there's slow because you're busy, slow because you're better than a grille cook working at a diner and can't manage the demanding pace of a huge diner packed to the sidewalk with patrons, and then there's Friendly's (where's my F-bombin' food already?!) slow... When you're really hungry any kind of slow makes the corner of the table look appetizing. I have to put Thread City not quite in Friendly's class (that would be too mean). On the plus side - the western omelet with cheddar was the size of an average diner placemat and thickness approaching a quiche. Cooked to perfection, I liked the not too small, not too big sized cuts of ingredients. I had grilled sourdough toast. I was expecting something skimpy. I apparently got the center cut of the loaf - 2 HUGE pieces - DEElish! Homefries were that perfect crispy-not-too-crispy outside. My girlfriend's side of bacon was heartstopping yummy massive slices. Everything at this place is massive. Well, my Diet Coke wasn't massive, but the service on the refill was good and our waitress was courteous about the delay with our food. I've eaten here on two separate occasions; and, I enjoyed both meals. On my most recent visit, I ordered the Philly Steak Omelet. At just over ten bucks, the price seemed a bit higher than average; but, trust me it's not. This was a full meal in itself. I left feeling full; and, I didn't feel hungry the rest of the day. In fact, combined with the toast and hash browned potatoes, I couldn't finish the whole meal in one sitting. This thing was huge. Stuffed with cheese and overflowing with Philly Cheese steak, this omelet had a buttery taste that couldn't be beat. The potatoes were browned to perfection, lightly seasoned, with a firm, but not undercooked, texture. It bears mentioning that the wheat toast was sliced thick, rather than the standard width you would normally get elsewhere. If I had one complaint, it would be that, if you're out for the day, you'll likely have to drop your doggy bag off at home before going about your business. If you're not big on left overs, this is not a meal for you. read more

In addition, I seem to always get another egg when I order something like poached eggs. They are good and runny! My husband and I have gone here for a Sunday morning date for years now. The service is friendly, the prices reasonable, and we can both eat for under $20 including the tip and taking some leftovers home in a doggie bag. Locals meet here for conversation, meetings, and just "happen" to see their friends along the way. I can't stand this place. Sure, the prices are reasonable especially for the giant portions. But I'd rather pay more money for less food that actually tasted good. The waitresses are all old unfriendly women with bad attitudes and they provide awful service. Inattentive at best, and closer to rude. There are really good breakfast places in town, I never understand why people still go here. The only thing I hear people have positive to say is that they love the portion size. Which I actually think is just wasteful, because most people leave so much food on their plates because everything is ridiculously sized. 'Murica I guess. I'm so grateful this place is a 2 minute walk from my dorm. The portions are absolutely huge and I have not been disappointed yet. It would be more convenient if they stayed open later than noon though. It's always quite warm in the restaurant however which will be nice once it gets colder out. I like this place. Very inexpensive and huge portions. Their omelettes cannot be eaten in one sitting. They are huge and also come with toast and homefries. My boyfriend's favorite is the biscuits and gravy. Reminder though : it is a diner. It's greasy (but tastes good) and it's fast. For a nicer Sunday breakfast with the family I would go to Nita's down the street. The menu is limited. You have pancakes and waffles and tons of combinations of meat + eggs + toast + homefries. I usually end up ordering the same thing without any debate between 2 or 3 items. Everything is relatively the same. You won't see crepes, quiches, or breakfast pastries on the specials board. My only qualm is the limited specials which always include biscuits and gravy and massive egg and meat plates. My absolute favorite breakfast special is eggs benedict, which i consider any diner staple on the weekends. My other favorite diner-esque place is Bea's in Coventry. Same caliber food and prices, but they have eggs benedict every weekend as well as some other creations on their "specials" menu. If you and your friends are really hungry, short on money, and, or trying to cure that UConn or Eastern hangover I'd say it's the perfect place to go. read more

Quite pleased with this place- definitely fits the average student's budget. Went here with friends for Sunday brunch because the line was too long at Nita's. We shared a chocolate chip pancake (really as big as a large dinner plate), spanish omelet (very tasty- fresh tomatos and peppers!), and a belgian waffle. Of the three, my favorite was the omelet. I got an omelette, home fries and a side of bacon. Usually, restaurants give you 4-5 slices of bacon. This place gave me about a half of pound! And it was crispy and delicious! The pancakes that passed by my table were the size of a hubcap, and looked absolutely delicious. The decor is kind of a regular diner. I sat in the front. It looked clean and well cared for. The staff were a well oiled machine. They were extremely busy, but the staff remained friendly and gave a "not in a rush" vibe during interactions, even though they were running around.
