We love coming to town and country. We started coming 1 time a week about a month ago. I feel so welcomed here! When we enter we are greeted like family! The staff have all been here for many years and remember our orders of past or ask if we want the menu for a change... service is amazing! I came here yesterday/Sunday and it was busy. Only one booth was available in the back. A handicapped woman came in and couldn't walk all the way back. Two guys, one a regular, were sitting by themselves up front in booths made for four. Neither self-centered guy would give up their comfortable booths for the handicapped woman. She had to struggle to sit on a stool at the counter. Pathetic sense of entitlement. I suggest the owner not allow singles to sit at booths made for four when it's busy since obviously guys like this couldn't care less about anybody but themselves; especially the regular who does this all the time. read more

Friendly little spot in Bloomfield. We're new to the area and have enjoyed this diner. Good service and a good sized breakfast.

I grew up seeing this diner after nearly 40 years, & I finally tried them out. It's crazy & comforting knowing this little diner has been in business for so long. Especially, watching others come & leave the small town of Bloomfield. There isn't a direct entrance, you have to step foot into the main building before taking your second step to their door. Upon entering it was somewhat noisy since they had a close to a full house & good size group of maybe 8 people dining. It was obvious they were natives of the town due to them catching up with other diners. Possibly a reunion of some sort. I was dining solo & aimed for seating at the bar counter but it was full. I peaked around the corner (L shape) but there were only booths lining the left wall. The group occupied the tables on the right. So I was forced to be that "guy" & sat myself in booth. I would have waited, but there isn't room for standing around unless you go back out. While I waited in my booth, I had time to decide my order & to be ready when the waitress arrived. With my order placed, I tinkered on my phone, observed & eaveseddropped on conversations. The restaurant seems to attract people of the mature & wise crowd. Sprinkled with people in there late 40's-50's. This diner is open from 7a-2p so I think that's fitting. Most were chatting, while some were enjoying the Sunday paper. The food arrived after what seemed like a 30min wait. One of the diners did ask about the wait time & how it was longer than usual, so it wasn't entirely my imagination. Although, the food was hot. So who can really complain. I ordered OJ, over medium eggs, that came out a tad big runnier than I prefer. Delicious bacon. Not crispy but not rubbery. Two beautiful French toasts, & a bowl of perfectly cooked homestyle thick grits, just the way I like them, not loose & soupy. The waitress also provided a heaping amount of butter without asking! A woman after my heart. I dug in & was completely & utterly satisfied. I was ready for an afternoon nap. Also, I want to mention, they have real OJ. I hope to catch them open again. Very nice intimate Mom and pop restaurant. Located in the plaza with plenty of parking. We were acknowledged and seated right away. Our waitress was sweet and took the orders right away. We were a table of 5 with 2 children and ordered Belgian Waffles, pancakes, omlette and steal meal. The food came in a reasonable time fresh and hot. My Waffle was fluffy and favorable and there was not an empty plate on the table. Reasonable prices and good service and food. Reccomend for sure!! read more

It's a diner and offers diner fare, as well as diner decor. (Well, decor that looks like it hasn't changed since the 80s.) The service is friendly and pleasant. The food is good. My little boy enjoyed his "House Burger" - which comes with tomato, mushroom, cheese of your choice, bacon, mayo, & pickle slices, as well as a generous amount of fries. (He asked for the addition of lettuce.) My teen enjoyed his grilled cheese wrap in your choice of wrap (he chose garlic herb), and it also came with pickle slices and fries. My husband was good with his triple decker club sandwich (toasted bread with mayo, turkey, bacon, lettuce, and tomato); however, he did find the toasted bread too dry. (He prefers it grilled, like crisp on the outside, but not toasted too dry -- as in hurt the roof of your mouth dry.) It comes with a little cup of cole slaw, pickle slices, and fries. For myself, I had the country omelet -- a 3-egg omelet with bacon, sausage, ham, and cheese -- served with your choice of potatoes, toast, and coffee or tea. I chose home-fried potatoes, (toasted & buttered) wheat bread, and coffee. My meal was satisfying and very filling. For the table, we also had an order of 2 blueberry pancakes. My husband and I (both having grown up in Southern California and having traveled the US, Europe, Oceania, & Asia) have this running joke about pancakes that we've tried in Connecticut. We have found it difficult to find what we consider a good pancake (i.e. fluffy, tasty, etc.) here in Connecticut. I wish I could share a better review, and maybe this was just a busy off weekend, but the service was horrible. The dining experience took us over an hour and a half with no coffee or water refills. It took 30 minutes just to get someone to take our order and about that long after we finished to get our check. Some of the food was okay, the eggs were undercooked significantly and the potatoes were very dry and under seasoned. Portions are large. The atmosphere is crowded and tight. If it looks busy or there's a wait, I'd suggest going elsewhere to save time and discomfort. read more

Not sure how long T&CL has been around, but it was here when we moved into the Valley in 1987 and its still here today. That's thirty years, bud. We had breakfast this morning and it was jam packed, so it's still very popular. Our two omelettes and two coffees ran $19.46. My Mexican omellette had three eggs, jalapeno slices, diced onions, diced tomatoes, and cheese, plus 2 slices of toast plus a big scoop of home fries for just $8.15. No rip-off factor, no pretension, no attitude, just honest food and good service for a fair price. They're open seven days a week for breakfast and lunch. read more

Town and Country is what every small town in America should have...a place where everyone knows everyone, where your coffee is being poured at your favorite seat before you have a chance to doff your hat, and where the food is good, always. Consistency is a hot point for me. I would rather eat in a place that is consistently good, than good sometimes and great other times. T&C's pancakes are what keep me coming back. They haven't changed in over 40 years. They are light, ever-so-lightly sweet, and though I've never asked, seem to have a bit of cornmeal to add to their already wonderful texture. 3 cover a plate, and a side of sausage compliments them to a T! The food is absolutely 10/10. It's diner food in all the best ways. Great portions and the flavor tastes so fresh. It honestly feels like their kitchen is super clean. I don't know how to explain it but everything came out so wonderfully and didn't taste greasy like other places. Truly a wonderful food experience. On Sunday, we had a female server who seemed to have forgotten about us after dropping our food off. We had to be those customers who asked other servers for help (we waited 20 minutes before resorting to this). Our server was no where to be seen. So, our service experience wasn't the best but the other servers were wonderful. Don't underestimate this place though; I can't wait to go back again for breakfast! read more

First visit to the Town & Country, hopefully not the last. Had to cudgel the fam a little bit into going. Worth it. Standard diner fare at a bit past noon = delish. My over easy eggs were Very easy - I'll ask for over medium next time. Coffee not bad, Jack Reacher would be in heaven. And the clientele!! Loads of regulars, the staff know them all and they all know each other. I nearly knocked over an octogenarian getting to my table and she looked daggers at me the whole time she was waiting. In my defense she could scarcely move her old bones; in hers, pretty sure the plastic surgeon who did her facelift 30 years ago was by the looks of things just out of his surgical fellowship and on his own for the first time. Like I said: awesome people watching. You better believe I'm going back. Update: went back on a midsummer Monday at noon, thinking I'd plunk down at the counter, stay out of everyone's way, and grab a quick bite before making a fast exit. Instead, serendipitously, I found myself in the midst of and part of the "counter crew." They are a perfectly pleasant group of long time local residents, all known to each other more or less, who were chatty and wanted to make me a part of their fun. I had one large egg over medium, hashbrowns and corn beef hash (finished every bit of that last one, tomorrow morning without fail I shall start my low carb diet). They joke about having finished their careers and now they're "retarded," they gently rib each other about silly things, they eat their favorite meals and pay special attention to the extremely well-coiffed nonagenarians who anchor a nearby table every day. It's an oasis of old-time, small-town civility, and a window into our past. It's also a place to get a killer meal and revel in the witty, adult, no-nonsense kindly treatment unique to a diner. The food was good, but the establishment is disgusting and the service is poor. I watched the cook rub her clothing and make people's sandwiches and toast with BARE hands. I brought this to my waitresses attention and when she brought it back to the kitchen the woman replied "I don't care, fire me" and continued to make people's food with her dirty hands. I asked the waitress to switch out the toast she brought out and she grabbed it off my plate with her bare hands. They clearly have no knowledge of cleanliness in the service industry. read more

Okay breakfast find. Place fills up quickly with Sunday regulars. The country omelette is chock full of meat and they use white american cheese which is my favorite for omelettes. My father lives in West Hartford, so when a friend was in town for a wedding a few weeks ago, I knew who to ask for a decent breakfast place with some character to grab some chow. This place is special. It's in a little shopping plaza, and you would hardly notice it driving by. Let me tell you, coffee is plentiful, the waitresses are sweet, and won't kick you out if you are catching up with a friend you haven't seen in say, 10 years. Portions are generous, food is quickly delivered, and prices are very reasonable. I had cranberry pancakes (made with fresh cranberries that popped when you bit into them, yum!) and bacon on the side. The bacon was crispy and delicious. The coffee was traditional diner coffee, not too strong, not watery, had caffeine. They've got counter space for sitting, they've got booths, there were kids, there were cute elderly couples that have most likely been going there since they were married. It's not hip or chic, but it's comfortable. And sometimes that's exactly what you're looking for. read more

Town and Country is just your basic breakfast and lunch diner. Despite being a little rough around the edges the food is good and reasonably priced. Service is friendly despite the servers obviously being overloaded. I try and order something that is made to order and fresh (like an omelette) as opposed to something that I seem them microwaving (the soup). Don't go out of your way for Town and Country but it is a good alternative to local fast food. read more

This is a lunch counter/tabled restaurant with a decent breakfast, and decent lunch menu. The menu is ordinary, nothing unique. The parking is easy, and the staff are obviously experienced. The service is better then most restaurants of this type. They are open seven days a week for breakfast and lunch. I recommend this place for a once a week breakfast. While most of the patrons are older, I would certainly recommend bringing kids too. read more

I've always meant to stop by and try the breakfast here since I live close by and today was an opportunity to do that. I will start with the good things and then move to the not so good. For starters my party of four adults and one child was seated promptly which was nice. Our waitress was very nice and took our orders. Things started to take a turn for the worst when our order was delayed for nearly thirty minutes. I did hear another waitress explain to her party that the kitchen was backed up. When the food did arrive, only half of my parties order came out. We had three omelette one bagel and an order of blueberry pancakes with bacon and corn beef hash. Only one omelette and the order of pancakes and bacon and the bagel came out. We still had to wait considerably for the other two omelettes, the corn beef has and a order of toast that was suppose to be with the first omelette. The food was really good which is why I'm giving three stars. My corn beef clearly came out of a can so I was very disappointed with that plus the fact that I had to wait so long for it. It was really a letdown. If your going to have corn beef hash at least put some effort in crafting your own recipe. Just heating up some canned hash is a no no and you charge 3.00 for it. On the bright side because the wait was so long the waitress took it off my bill. Overall the food was good but the service was not good at all. Waitress was nice but the wait for the food is unacceptable. I will say that I'm willing to give this place a try again and hopefully my dinning experience will be better. read more

I lived in Bloomfield for a year and a half and this was by far my favorite breakfast spot. The food is really well done, tasty and raises the bar for breakfast. My go to meal here is the over medium eggs or western omelette. They put it next to huge sides of cornbeef hash or hash browns... both would be great as stand alone dishes. They also have fried hashbrown patties and I sometimes would substitute those in as my side. I was always quick to be seated and the food always came out pretty quick. I had a tendency of adding something (usually a grilled bluberry muffin) after I ordered and the waitresses never gave me trouble about adding things on. Definitley a spot worth checking out and would recommend you do. read more

We have a friend who lives up the street from here and always insist on it for breakfast but we really don't like it. As breakfast food goes, It's the pits. Egg omelette are always overdone, breakfast potatoes are undesirable (although the frozen hash brown option like they have at McDonald's is good!). The staff is a hoot and its all neighborly chummy but the food just sucks. And it feels a little dingy and dirty. read more

When I was first introduced to this place, I thought I'd hit the jackpot. It's much closer to me than my favorite, Harvest Cafe in Simsbury, and definitely less expensive. Definite "diner feel" and very quaint - as most "Seat Yourself" spots are. However, over time I noticed a change. There's one waitress who, while not abrasive, can be extraordinarily dismissive and neglectful. Other servers seem tired and slower moving than I remember during my early infatuation days. The food is still good, but the service is hit or miss - with more misses than hits. The last time I was there, the server forgot to put in half of my order, lied to me 10 mintues later and said it would be right out (as she brought my friend's food who had ordered THE EXACT SAME THING), and I ended up having to ask the manage for my food. She took the items off (many things here are a la carte) but the amount of time I waited should have equated at least to a comped meal. Come to find out, the server simply hadn't put in the order and then forgot about it. Again, the food is good and is actually very good breakfast fare, but if you want or need attentive service to complete your dining experience, you may be disappointed. read more
