I actually found this spot by accident when I was looking for just anything open that we could get into on a cold blistering December night in Paris. I saw some reviews, some good some bad, and decided to go in anyway. I found out recently that they have a new owner with a different menu, and its disappointing, so this review is definitely from prior to the new owners in 2021. The food here is spectacular, it's small but cozy. The dishes are thoughtful and not too pricey. The wines are delicious, you can't go wrong with any bottle on the menu. The duck breast and the veal were especially good, and pate is excellent as a starter. read more

This place is really good for dinner. It's not that big with a room in the front and one on the back, but it's really comfy, especially with the cool items on the wall and funky music playing. We arrived tonight at 8:30pm for dinner and it was busy, being a Friday night. Still, we were able to get a table right away. The service here is superb. They took our drink order right away, we ordered champagne (€10 a glass) and water. We then ordered the duck breast and the ribeye steak. Both came with mashed potatoes and vegetables that were perfect. The meat was also cooked well and I really enjoyed the peppercorn sauce on the steak. read more

Made reservations a week in advance. The day of, due to tours and traffic we arrived about 10min late. Called ahead to let them know and they were super accommodating. The restaurant was busy for the dinner rush and we arrived around 715pm. Ordered the duck breast and my friend ordered the lamb. Both dishes were fantastic. I made reservations in advance for dinner. It was out of the way of my hotel but I read a lot of reviews and wanted to see what all the hype was. In retrospect, I wouldn't have made the trip to this restaurant because it wasn't anything spectacular. The food was delicious so if you're nearby or if it's convenient, definitely dine there but that's all. I read in another post that the host was welcoming. I didn't get that experience. The host was polite but it was more like "hello welcome, what would you like to order, here's your food, pay, okay bye". read more

Paris, the wonderful city of lights, has an estimated 40,000 restaurants! And it's still baffles me how there can be hidden gems. How do these small, out of the way places get found and frequented? Firstly it has to be the quality of the food. Then comes the menu and lastly the execution. La Coïncidence is a 10 in all three not to mention the service which was top notch. Artfully prepared food with the freshest ingredients. Inventive, delicious cuisine. No matter what I write I won't truly do the food justice. La Coïncidence is no coincidence. My wife and I came to the restaurant for our wedding anniversary. We were greeted by Alistair who absolutely made it a wonderful night. We started with the Camembert and honey which was delicious. I almost ordered a second but I knew we had more food coming. My wife ordered the fish of the day (salmon) and I had duck al'orange. Alistair helped us pair the dishes with wine. Both were outstanding. For dessert I had Creme brulee and my wife an apple crumble. Perfect way to end a perfect meal. We will definitely be back. Bottom line - you don't need to speak French to eat here. You will leave incredibly happy. If the Britrail broke down I would walk from London to eat here. read more

This was our favorite meal in Paris. We met 2 young men next to us from Pepperdine University...Neighbors! We had a great time chatting it up with them AND the owner who was helpful and friendly and just made the experience even better. Cool jazz classics were playing and lots of wine was consumed. The owner gave us recommendations for a jazz club and a cheese store. Entrecote: the best dish we had. The peppercorn sauce was wonderful. Beef filet: with cepe sauce (foie gras and mushrooms). Amazing. Cheese plate: really good. Changes regularly depending what the vendor brings. Charcuterie board: Generous amount of food. Chorizo, smoked ham, rabbit terrine, dry sausage and comte Duck Breast: Served with a tasty honey and orange sauce beside mashed potatoes and mushrooms. Delicious. Great example of local dining at its finest with exceptional service and delicious food. I had this restaurant bookmarked for my trip to Paris. We arrived January 1st on New Years Day without reservations and despite the restaurant being booked they were able to accommodate us. The restaurant was beautiful, modern decor with portraits hung on the wall yet the restaurant as a classic and charming feel to it. I couldn't be more happy with the service. The hospitality as excellent and the food quality and overall experience was exceptional. We ordered a bottle of wine 2014 Vin de Bordeaux from Bô, very nice all around bottle for under $40. We started with a beef tartare. Exceptional! Excellent flavor, the hints of basil and additional seasoning were quite evident. It paired well with a spinach salad and cheese on top, when combined together it was very delicious. The duck! Possibly the best duck I had in Paris. This dish was masterful. The potato purée with the orange gravy was devine, very creamy. The duck was cooked medium per the chefs recommendation and it didn't disappoint. The flavor was present on every inch of the sliced strips with a crusted edge of honey that was truly the best duck dish I had all trip. The cheesecake was soft and creamy and smooth with the perfect pie crust. Definitely sprinkle the sauce on top or on your bite for maximum flavor. This is not your typical American Cheesecake so if your a fan you will really enjoy this dessert. It was fantastic. We all enjoyed our dishes and gave our compliments to the chefs and staff. It was a pleasure to dine at this restaurant and I will add it to my Paris List. read more

Before sitting down here and enjoying their delicious meal, I had wasted hours trying to find my AirBnB, or to get in touch with the host. I'd been walking for at least 2 hours from point A to point B, or God knows from where to where, all by myself with no help! It was getting dark and I was getting scared. That's when I realized that I need to eat! I just looked around and found this place. I sat down and I was nervous. I'm just this little Asian tourist girl (that part was very obvious, I'm sure) who spoke zero French!! I can use body language - point at something on the menu, then point to my mouth, then rub my tummy. That'll do! But still, I was nervous. This is preciously why I was so thrilled that the menu was in English and that the server spoke perfect English! Hellelujahhh (Service) He was very friendly and helped me order all my favorites - the pate, the wine, and the duck breast! When the food came, I instantly forgot all about the stressful situation I was in. I forgot how angry/frustrated/worried about not having a place to stay that very night! The food and the service were both magical and life-saving! (Food) The rabbit pate was amazing. I know I can't compare this to anything that I've tasted at home, but honestly, it was hands down the best pate I've ever had! The duck breast was equally good. It's totally a must! I really adored La Coincidence. Please do make sure to make a reservation. I enjoyed the small and charming nature of the restaurant, but it is quite small. It is more fit for parties of 4 or less rather than larger crowds. I believe the menu changes quite frequently if not daily, so I would ask what the house recommends is best for the night. The owner is so nice, a really lovely man. Extremely kind. Between two ladies, we shared a charcuterie plate that came with a variety of cured meats with endless bread (which was a bit hard to be honest) and some yummy onion jam, a really great beef bourguignon that was surrounded by nicely cooked garden vegetables, and a delicious creme brulee. The restaurant seems to have its fair share of American and French customers. The frequency of American customers is probably due to the fact that the restaurant is so highly regarded on Yelp, and rightly so! I would most definitely make another stop back here for a lovely meal the next time I'm in Paris! read more

My fiancee and I went to this place on a Yelp recommendation. Apparently, so did a lot of other American tourists in Paris, as our dining room was full of them. Too much maybe? Maybe not a coincidence, he he... I know, we look on Yelp for advice and then complain that the places are too touristy!!! Anyway, the restaurant does know their clientele and offers the menu in both French and English. I need to mention here that I'm French native, so either menus work for me. We started with a camembert melted in the oven with honey on top and a very nice lettuce on the side. With excellent French bread, that was a 10 euro winner. My fiance had the ribeye (entrecote) with the pepper sauce (very peppery!!!) and some sort of gratin dauphinois (potato gratin). It was good, maybe not perfect but solid. I had the magret de canard (duck magret), rare as it should be, also with a sweet sauce, with mashed potatoes and a little more lettuce. The verdict was excellent for the duck, and average for the puree of potatoes. Good salad. We also got a tasty half bottle of brouilly (burgundy wine) for 21 euros. We ended with a cafe gourmand for her (coffee and little desserts) for her and just an expresso for me. Overall, a solid restaurant. Looks like they like to add foie gras on many dishes, but we didnt try that. There was another yelper from Chicago nearby our table and he said the filet was a must. Due to the riots around the city, the restaurant was pretty empty apart from two other English speaking couples... so perhaps not the "hole in the wall where locals go" type of place if that's what you're looking for. However, if the food is good then it's good. Service was fabulous. Speedy and attentive with friendly advice about the best bakeries in town... etc. Food: Saw the pictures and had to get the duck. It was purposefully pink on the inside and delicious. I loved how tender and juicy it was and almost licked my plate... ok ok, I unceremoniously swiped the free bread all around the edges which is pretty much the same thing. The sauce was tangy and I loved the purées potatoes and cherry tomato. My husband raves about his ribeye which he got medium rare. They had a peppercorn sauce that was divine. We found this place while searching yelp for some ratatouille, and bookmarked it. Completely by luck, we are out visiting the Trocadéro for some Eiffel Tower photos, and decided to walk over here for dinner before heading back to see the Eiffel at night (or, nighttime for Paris, which was still insanely bright with daylight outside) This was truly a gem, and easily in the top two for our meals in France. It's in a tricky location, but we found it easily on foot. It's actually conveniently in the middle of the Arc de Triomphe and Trocadéro so you can stop in between visiting the two. The menu was all in French, but the host came up to us and patiently explained the whole menu to us in English, and didn't seem the least bit bothered that he had just done that for another couple sitting two tables down from us. I had the cooked salmon with ratatouille and mashed potatoes which was AMAZING. I think I had salmon every day while I was in France but this was by far the best I had. They served it with this lime-cilantro-tomato-olive oil sauce that was just superb. We ordered their dessert special, apple pie. Now, I'm not usually one for pies, since I haven't had many growing up. Normally I don't judge pies. But what they served us here was not pie. It was as if a basket of apples had devoured an apple orchard, that slowly fed off what was an apple pie. There was a light, flaky crust underneath all the apple, but the rest of it was some sort of spiced, baked apple heaven with a small scoop of light whipped ice cream. We finished our meal with some coffee which they served with a piece of chocolate covered almond. This is a cozy place with a limited menu . The staff is wonderful. It feels like you are eating at a friends home. In more ways than one. First- the decor is homey, living room fabric cushions along a booth in the back,rustic accents, framed child drawings on the walls. The staff is friendly and whimsical. The food is average with error and everyone smiles and politely tolerates it for the most part since we're friends, right? We had the duck , the ribeye, the fish of the day ( bass) and a charcuterie and the Roquefort honey app. The fish was, "eh". A bit dry, tasteless, with a decent yet underwhelming sauce and mashed potatoes. I've had worse, but much better The steak was served tartare. It wasn't ordered that way. The server claimed that that was their "pink". This was confusing since US " pink" implies "medium" and we were shooting for a Med rare to med as a rule. This was blood red raw except the sear. It was a strange choice for a steak unless requested. This one needed to be sent back but was replaced with a nice medium steak that was enjoyed. The duck was also enjoyed although quite red. The charcuterie was good , only one bit of cheese but fine. The prices were far too high for the product and quality and prep. Silly high and not accurately reflected in this listing. We regretted dropping so much money for below par food. C'est la vie. We'll be market dining tomorrow. read more

Staff was fantastic as a lazy American, I'm too lazy to even learn a word of french but the staff was fluent in my native tongue and easy to communicate with. This place is small and quaint but the food was big on flavor. I had the Magret du Canard tonight and it didn't disappoint. Everyone's dishes smelled amazing, I can only assume they tasted just as good. The place was packed and staffed with only one waitress (who worked emphatically to serve everyone) but I received my food in a timely manner. The prices are slightly higher than some of the other restaurants I've frequented (Chez Felicie, Le Depart, Brasserie du Terroir) but I enjoyed the food & comfortable atmosphere here the most. read more

Great ambiance, well-crafted food- what more do you need in Paris? Came here on a Saturday night with a friend to see what the place was all about. Started off with a bottle of red wine and foie gras with eggs. The foie gras was lightly spreaded on thinly-sliced pieces of baguette, but that was all that we needed: it was smooth, almost creamy, heaven. La Coincidence is known for its tartares (essentially, raw meat- must be a traditional French plate), so why not order it? Although at first nervous about consuming uncooked meat, I went for it. Got the salmon tartare, to be "safe" (there was no way that I was getting the beef). And it was delicious: the salmon was marinated in fresh juices and was smooth and moist- not dry and crumbling like the ones I had in the U.S. It also came with a side of ratatouille, which was just as good. Ordered the millefeuille for dessert, and it was not what I had expected. Basically, it is a "de-constructed" version of it, so it was simply three layers of cookie pastry sandwiching cream and raspberries. Cool and tasty concept! Service was super nice; our waitress was happy enough to help my friend (who did not know French very well) understand the dishes on the menu. What I wasn't preparing for was the bill: it came out to almost 100 euros! Then again, what was I supposed to expect? After all, this is Paris. Regardless, decent food in great company. This place is a little removed from the bustling city center, but it's worth going to. Everything here is to die for. The foie gras from this restaurant was the best I had in Paris. They serve it with some bread and a nice fruit jam... delicious. If you've never tried foie gras, you should definitely come here and try it...you'll love it. For my entree I ordered the duck with mashed potatoes and mushrooms. Hard to go wrong with that choice; it was very good. Surprisingly, I still had room for dessert, so I ordered some cheesecake. It was light and airy... very different from New York style cheesecake, but in a good way. The decor here is really unique: I was told by the waiter that they have a local artist come in each month and add new art; this month they just happened to be showcasing pictures of riders on the NYC subway... hilarious. read more

Made reservations here based on the ratings on yelp, but thought the food is just average. It's decent but not wow, especially compared to other meals we had in Paris at a similar price range. We ordered the asparagus and poached egg to start...not that great. Then for mains we got the duck breast and fish of the day. While the flavours were alright, we thought the duck breast can be more tender. Not sure if it's just a one off because other reviewers seem to say the duck is tender. I had the fish of the day which came with mash potatoes. It was good but I wouldn't go out of my way to have it again. Overall experience and food are just average. read more

There are still a lot of tourists here, but at least the food is really good and service is awesome. I had this waiter who lived in Miami for a while, and I felt like an American during my time there. Anyway! Wine menu was a little short, but that's probably to keep prices reasonable. We ordered a wine that was out, so we got s free upgrade to a similar bottle which was nice. Salad was overpriced, but it was solid. Could use some more flavor but at least it was healthy. The avocado was a nice touch since I haven't really seen it used in many parts of europe. Beef tartare was good. Meat pieces were small enough to eat easily, but still had good texture and chewiness. Marinade was good to not mask too much of the beef flavor away. Duck breast was awesome as expected. Perfect medium rare, and with the sweet fruit jelly, made for an amazing combo. Ribeye was cooked to a good temperature as well, and the meat was very tasty and was not too hard to bite into. Finally, I loved the mashed potatoes! This one star is for the rude manager or owner. He's the chubby "GYPSIE", French speaker. I paid for 2012 Bordeaux, but he gave me a 2015 version for the same price, with a bad explanation. Also- the menu is limited with a price tag of $$$, not $$, so it's another false advertisement. The food is mediocre. I was super excited for this place, but I felt that there was SO MANY foreigners here. They definitely seem to hit the spot of tourists and make it to the top list, so there was quite the excitement. It was also a great relief to find staff that spoke perfect English so there wouldn't be any difficulties with ordering. We ordered the House terrine of foie gras, rabbit terrine, beef and basil tartare, duck breast, beef filet as well as a creme brulee. Perhaps I was having too high of expectations for this place, that lead me to mediocre food and a lot of disappointment. My favorite on the table was probably the creme brulee, but it was on par with many other restaurants as well which was unfortunate. The rabbit terrine has a very strong taste, but the onion jam tasted much better than the terrine itself. The foie gras had a good pairing with a jam that made everything better. The beef tartare just wasn't my taste with parmesan cheese flavoring. There really wasn't much to rave about, especially since the creme brulee was partially cold with some bites and warm with other which is a bit of a toss up with this dessert. Sad to say it just wasn't my favorite compared to all of these other reviews. I would recommend making reservations because plenty of people tried to walk in and it just wasn't possible! read more

Since this little restaurant was given such high reviews, the girlfriend and I decided to give it a try. So we came on a Monday night at 7:13pm but it was "closed". We thought they were open at 7pm, as mentioned here in yelp. Apparently not. They opened the door around 7:20pm. After we sat down and was going through the menu, the phone was ringing off the hook for reservations. I guess we got lucky. The restaurant was starting to fill up, and at one point, had a wait for a table. Don't forget, this was on a weekday night. That night we ordered the octopus salad and the terrine of foie gras to share and a plate of duck breast each for dinner. Portions was generous and the food was delicious. I must compliment on the bread that came with the foie gras. It was toasted, soft, and fluffy. Couldn't have been better. As well, the duck breast was on point. The thick slices of duck was soft, tender, and juicy. I definitely recommend trying it. Overall, service was good, food was delicious, and price was pretty reasonable. For two appetizers, two entrees, and a 50cl bottle of red wine, it came under 95 euros. I only wish the table was a bit bigger to fit all the food comfortably.
