Our concierge recommended this "hidden dining room" off the main drag. It's like a lush oasis. Something you would see in a movie. Or something they try to recreate elsewhere when attempting to make you feel you are in Europe. It's delightful. Pasta, seafood, meat. You can't go wrong. We ordered an extra entree because we couldn't narrow our choices to 2. And we petite little travelers ate it all! Our favorite was the truffle pasta. But it was all delicious. We made easy reservations at this restaurant and were seated promptly on the terrace dining room. They brought some olive tapenade and excellent little breads to start and our main courses followed pretty quickly; The daube niçoise with ravioli was good , not the best that I have ever had in Nice but solid. I wish there was more meat though. The petits farcis niçois ( vegetable stuffed with minced meat and grilled) were very good. The panacotta desert was on the expensive side for such a restaurant but generously served . It seemed that the restaurant was a bit overwhelmed by the huge number of guests/ tourists and I am sure that the atmosphere and quality is different in the off season when things calm down a bit. This is a fabulous French restaurant in the heart of Nice. It's a hidden treasure. There's a small sign on the Rue through which you travel trough a passage (a traveler in mid evil times) to an inner courtyard covered with vines of purple flowers. There's also an inside space. Unfortunately, there was no room outside so we sat inside. No one was wearing a mask except us. There was no social distancing and several guests were coughing. In addition to the beautiful venue, the food was equally beautiful and delicious. We selected the price fixed 3 course dinner for 27.90 euros. We enjoyed appetizers: an anchovy on a crepe (better than it sounds) and fresh greens; main entrees: lamb with a savory sauce & polenta and pan seared local fish; and for dessert frozen nougat. All we're incredibly delicious and, I'm told, very much recipes of Nice. The Restaurant was full with more than 100 dinners. We enjoyed a bottle of sparkling pelligrino for 6.50 euros. We recommend eating here but due to COVID, you'll should sit outside. read more

Husband and I had a great experience here. We came right when it opened for dinner time (though I do highly recommend a reservation here). Ordered the duck and sea bass for our main course. Both came out and were so delicious and tasty. They even de-boned the fish for you. The waitress was so friendly and loved the romantic ambiance of the courtyard. We were excited to come here because our hotel suggested it. We even tried to make reservations and they said walk in only and they aren't busy. When we arrived we were sat right away but a waitress didn't come up to us for 20-25 minutes - when she finally did, she made it seem like she was doing us a favor by allowing us to order. I asked her what she recommended between the crab dish or the seafood ravioli and she said, "you don't know what crab is?" I was blown away by the rudeness - rather than suggesting something on the menu that would fit a pescatarian palette she rushed us into making a a decision. We decided to share the lobster spaghetti and ordered wine - after 5 minutes she told us that dish was unavailable and practically threw a stale bread basket on our table...when I asked what else they offered that didn't have meat, she waited with an attitude and that's when my fiancé decided we were leaving. Really bad customer service, can't speak for all the waiters but this particular waitress was very young and if she doesn't like her job maybe she shouldn't work there. read more

I just had dinner here it was exquisite. I always come here when I come to Nice. I had the Foie to start and the duck to follow which was cooked perfectly and accompanied with a pomegranate risotto. The selected wine was a Beaujolais very cheap but great with the meal. My friends had Sole with a rich butter lemon sauce that was balanced perfectly and Sea Bass. We were still full from lunch but the quality of the food makes you want to eat. Although we're defeated long before dessert. Food was bland, served cold, sea bass filet was 1/4 inch thin, my filet mignon was served medium (asked medium rare) many disappointments. The service was typically slow for France as our first course took one hour to arrive and was served cool. We took the train from Paris and arrived here at around 10:30pm. Our friend recommended we eat here, but I was worried that it was too late and I had two hungry and tired children on my hands. The restaurant is a little hidden from the Main Street but it has a lovely courtyard feel with both dining inside and outside. It is white table cloth service so I could imagine coming here for a romantic dinner. The staff was so accommodating and gracious and the food was excellent. They immediately brought bread to the table for the children while I ordered a salad, beef ravioli the calamari pasta and frites. Both main dishes were delicious, authentic and mouth watering. The waiter gave great advice regarding the menu and proportions. For a first night to a new city, we felt welcomed and happy. I highly recommend it! read more

Rick Steve's tour book recommended this pretty fancy schmancy expensive restaurant that we wouldn't normally eat at...but before 7:30pm, special €23.50 3 course meals are offered. We both opted for the same items and got the cheapest wine bottle for €22: Fish Soup: a thin tasty broth, with croutons and cheese. I enjoyed but the wife didn't. Roasted Red Mullet: tender and cooked perfectly with a pleasantmustard sauce; came with a nice quiche side. Other choices were a gnocchi pasta dish and rabbit dish(we can't bring ourselves to eat Thumper). Apple Tart: pretty good, nothing exciting though. Lovely romantic setting with elegant indoor seating to avoid the European chain smokers. Our 2nd best meal on this trip, but we received very best service here in all of France. read more

What a wonderful find on the Rue de Massena in Nice! A bit hard to find so look for the red sign by the number 5 on the Rue de Massena. Walk down the short walkway and find yourself in a wonderful courtyard where you can eat out or take a table indoors. We went on a Monday night ( open daily) and there were seats available both indoors and out. They do take reservations but if you go early you probably won't need one. The menu is a wonderful combination of things and you can choose from a fixed course menu or order a la carte. The wine list is equally as interesting but if in doubt- the servers are great at finding you something you will love. I started with the artichoke salad and my dining companion had a crab salad topped with what tasted like the inside of a deviled egg. Both were delicious so we knew we were off to a good start. For our entrees- I had the seafood linguine which came with a whole grilled lobster, grilled shrimp and mussels. Wonderful!! I wish I could remember our server's name as she was great! Not only was she handling individual tables , but she had a large group that she was also juggling but she never missed a beat. She brought us a complimentary limoncello to cap off our evening! She even could understand my bad French so she gets extra points just for that! The decor of Marie's is elegant in a simple ways. Crystal light fixtures suspend from a simple wood ceiling adding sparkle to the room. And the courtyard seating is also inviting during the the day or at night. Dinner for two with a couple of drinks and a bottle of wine ran about 117e which was really reasonable given the quality and quantity of the food we had. **STARS: 3.5** Please don't hate on me for this review... it's probably one of those "hit or miss" type of restaurants and it was definitely a miss for the sis and I! Can't complain there... The reason for the 3.5 stars... if you're accustomed to good / fine dining... this isn't up to par to that level. The foie gras that I had... was too gamey... compared to the rest of the foie gras that I had during our 3 weeks all over London / Paris / Rome. The Tanjine that I had... was soupy... I wasn't expecting that to be soupy... when it arrived, I was shocked, but I was definitely open to trying it... but it was just bland. It was curry but that's it... no other spices stood out. The sis on the other hand... had a good time... she would probably rate this as 4 stars... she actually finished both her appetizer and entree and if you knew my sister, that RARELY happens! She would get full in an instant. The dessert... was interesting! The eclair was made out of bread, like baguette, not what I was used too... upon the first bite, the sis and I looked at each other and just both grabbed our wine glasses and drank wine! Soooo... to end... it was me... I had an off night with my meal. Next time, if there is a next time... I'll try something else. A friend invited me to this place - which was great because I totally would have missed it! It's set back in a courtyard-like setting off Rue Massena and has several tables under an arbor where we dined. Beautiful setting. I ordered the linguini du pêcheur (see the photo), which was delicious - everyone at my table was digging in with their forks. One of my friends got Marie's grilled fish and it looked incredible, thought I did not try it myself. For dessert we shared the raspberry millefeuille (good, not spectacular) and the trio (crème brûlée, panna cotta and chocolate mousse - which was my favorite of the three). We had a wonderful lunch on the terrace/courtyard here. The service was prompt and attentive. During the week there is a good "formule" offer for lunch. On weekends the full menu with the option of Le Menu Niçois. I chose from that and we shared the frozen nougat dessert. Food was nicely presented and hot. I had the pressed rabbit with a side of what I think was eggplant and squash. It was very tasty. My lunch mate had the pasta with Corsican ham. That was really good too! The bougainvillea covered courtyard really offers a romantic setting for lunch or dinner. There was also a nice breeze during our stay on a particularly warm July day. They do use misters as a "refresher" but I don't think they are too effective. read more

What a romantic and beautiful setting! We sat outside under their pergola covered in beautiful lush greenery. The food was excellent and the service was impeccable. The waiter was very helpful and explained the dishes to us in English. We all ordered a pasta dish and they were each fantastic. Of the restaurants we have eaten at in France, including several in Paris, this is the best so far. Veal as big as any American ribeye, beef and ravioli as tender as any Texas biscuit. We were staying at a hotel nearby on rue Massena and this place looked intriguing so we decided to wander in. The restaurant itself is located down a small alley from the main street and has a nice outdoor courtyard. Unfortunately, we didn't have a reservation and there were no tables available outside. However, we were quickly taken to a nice little table against the back wall. The amuse bouche was a ham pate, which amounted to a puree of ham. It was tasty and inventive. I mean, who is thinking, "I can really make this ham better by putting it through a food processor?" That said, it was pretty good. To start we had the Nicoise salad, a regional item, which is a salad featuring olives, tuna, and anchovies. A nice start. For my dinner, I had the tenderloin prepared in a green peppercorn sauce. The steak was perfectly prepared and tender, and the sauce was delicious. My wife had the pasta with clams, which was a big bowl of pasta with clams served on top. It was quite buttery and delicious as well. This time we skipped desert so we could get a nutella crepe on the way home. Overall, the food was excellent and the ambience was nice. Ambience is super cute and quaint if you get a seat outside (we did not) I think our experience with service was a little different bc we were inside and in a corner. We saw people seated after us get served and their food sooner. Waiter was nice and friendly though. Honestly, food was just ok. We had the fish soup which was tasty and hearty but was a little cold. The stuffed squash blossoms were raw (usually they are lightly battered) but i didn't mind it. What i didn't like was that the cheese was cold and firm. The steak tartare was fresh but they used sweet pickles and it was too sweet and overpowering. Lastly their signature beef was pretty good. In general, didn't love the area. Felt touristy but I guess it had to be. That's the challenge in France - not every restaurant has an English menu or English speaking staff which makes it limiting. read more

La Maison de Marie on Rue Massena in Nice is right in the centre of the city. The restaurant is located in a beautiful backyard, off one of the main pedestrian streets. So despite being very central, La Maison de Marie feels quiet and relaxed. We started our meal with a shared plate of, I think, cured ham, honey and melon. I do not exactly remember all ingredients, but what I remember is that both of us greatly enjoyed the interesting combination of flavours in this starter. I ordered a beef fillet with french fries as main. I was a little bit disappointed by the fries - they were good, but not exceptional. However, the steak was excellent and the sauce was delicious. My friend had seafood pasta, he said that it was a bit of a mixed bag - overall good, but with room for improvement. My starter and my main went perfectly together with the dry white wine from Corse. It was so good, that I ordered a second glass half way through my meal. To round off the evening, I ordered a strawberry dessert and was surprised when it was a simple black slate plate with a pile of strawberries. That is the kind of dessert I like! La Maison de Marie is a decent restaurant that offers delicious food in a relaxed atmosphere, just a stone's throw away from the masses of tourists that walk down Rue Massena. It is not as fancy as some other restaurants in Nice, but it offers quality dishes in the beautiful surroundings of a back garden - at least when it does not rain. read more

I got there right at noon when they opened and asked and got a table for 1. Lovely dining room. I had a house white with my starter, duck in a pastry puff, and served with some greens. Quite a heavy start and I should not have ordered the risotto as my main. I only ate half. I had a glass of their house Bordeaux as well. Nice lunch, by 1 pm when I left the restaurant was filing fast. They have a nice set lunch, even on Saturday, so it's a nice option without having to break the bank. This was my favorite place to eat during my trip to Nice. My friends and I were searching for a place to eat on a Monday night. It seems like almost every restaurant closes on Sunday and Monday. We found this place via yelp and decided to try it. It was one of the most heavenly meals I've had. We had a mussel dish, foie gras, and a vegetable dish to share for appetizers. All these dishes were awesome, especially the mussel dish. We ordered a second one for the table. I had the sole for an entree. The waiter cut the fish from the bone for me right at the table! My wife and I were in search of a delicious and romantic dinner while in Nice and Yelp led us to La Maison de Marie. Outstanding food and a romantic, quiet courtyard right in the heart of the city. Take the advice and look at a map before heading out. Then, once on Massena, look up for the red sign and head down the walkway into the courtyard. We were seated outside in the courtyard on a drizzling evening, managing to stay dry under the awning. Started with an amuse bouche from the chef - egg casserole with ham and cheese. Off to a good start. Decent wine selection as well - we picked a bordelaise that was slightly chilled and had a sweet, fruity finish. I started with the grilled peppers in olive oil with salad. The wife had the fish soup. She is a seafood connoisseur and swears this was the best fish soup she's had in France over the last 3 weeks of traveling. Complete with croutons and garlic aioli. Our main course we both had the gnocchi with Daube, a traditional regional beef stew. Mmmmmm. The beef was so tender it fell apart on the fork. The gnocchi like little sweet, potato pasta pillows. Unfortunately it is also frowned upon to lick the plate in France. Alas, the bread served as a wonderful vessel to enjoy the remaining sauce. For dessert I had fresh pineapple with a hint of mint. The wife had the lemon tart. Both were excellent finishes to the meal. Our server was attentive and did a solid job. Fair amount of folks had a reservation so if you have a large party or like to eat at a common time consider a reservation. Prices were fair for the amount of food.
