Finally, we were able to come in for an in-person meal! We sat at the bar and ordered some drinks to start. I got the purple rain; it's super yummy and pretty balanced but a little sweet for my liking. Hubs got the mai tai, and oooh yeah, look at that beauty! We ordered the Lovers Boat, which had a superb mix of sushi and sashimi; the fish just melted in my mouth! The rolls were delicious, too; the spicy tuna was one of the best I have had! We also enjoyed some Sake with dinner. The ambiance is deceiving for the quality of food you get. Somewhat Chinese restaurant meets a town dive bar. But we were cool with that! There were many bar seats, and just as we were leaving, it looked like a band was coming in to set up and play; wicked cool, Koto! Think this is our new must-go place for our sushi hankerings! (PS., the prices were low, making it one of the most affordable sushi dates!)

Love this place. The sushi is some of the best in the area. They make their rolls big and the fish is always fresh. Definitely try the koto roll and volcano roll

Will still maintain that avoid the dinner and lunch hours and you will get decent service even if you go in October. The Koto roll isn't on the regular menu (which is tailored to tourists) but if you request it they can do it for you. I only go here for the Koto roll so I was happy to hear that they could make it for. It really is a thing of beauty! The fire roll was also good, with the jalapeños providing a great kick! As usual, love the food, the ambience is pretty nice, and if you avoid the rush hours, the service is pretty good too!

Rushed, dirty, shitty workers. especially the boss, don't go there if you want food that is thoroughly cooked and good quality.

Walked in and immediately got a table for 5 at 1:30p on a busy October Saturday. Sushi was very fresh and delicious! Fun drinks and decor!!

The service was great and our server was amazing. The ambiance was a little bar feeling with lots of wood tables which I liked. Now let's get to the food.. Pork buns: the pork was cooked perfectly and the bun was nice and soft. The sauce went well everything and it's a great starter dish. Spicy Kimchi Ramen- this consists of pork belly, pickled mushrooms, kimchi and fried garlic. The ramen was really good and had a lot of flavor with just the right amount of spice from the kimchi. Perfect for a cold day! Colonel Sanders Ramen- this had a pork broth with fried chicken and was delicious and moist. Also had corn with Vermont butter which you can taste through the bowl. This dish was the highlight for me and I'll definitely be back again. If you're in Salem, MA and are craving ramen then be sure to give this place a try.

However, the food itself wasn't spectacularly special for me to grant the fifth star. There was a good amount of fat on the pork belly, and I wasn't really a fan of the wavy noodles. It's like cheap noodles in what should be a premium dish. The flavored sodas (N/A alternatives) were a great find and a decent value on the menu. Service was friendly and quick, we stopped by with no reservations on a weekday and got seated. All in all, would be back for appetizers.

Nothing felt gimmicky, everything was thoughtfully prepared. The ambiance is outstanding. Walking in, it felt like one of the better spots I've dined in Boston proper or New York. The space has real character. Our server Lou was exceptional. First-timers at a tapas-style restaurant, and he made sure we understood the portions, guided us through choices we weren't sure about, and kept us from over-ordering. That level of attentiveness makes a difference. The food was outstanding. The broccoli alone (yes, broccoli) was a standout. The ahi tuna and rice cake were equally impressive. My martini was perfectly executed. The owner came by, introduced himself, and actually spent time with each table. That kind of engagement from ownership tells you everything about the place's standards. I'm already planning my return to work through the rest of the menu. Whether it's a full dinner or just drinks and a snack, Njord Haven is worth the trip.

The delish cocktail less (which are NOT cheap) have almost no alcohol. I'm not a big drinker, but typically one will suffice. Two is a big night out. When I have three cocktails and almost no buzz, that makes you feel robbed. Who wants to feel ripped off? Several of my friends feel the same way and do not frequent for the same reason. I do hope the lovely owner does the right thing.

Nothing on the menu or from the server mentioned that, which was disappointing right away. When I told the server I didn't like it and wanted something else, he literally tilted his head and said, "ummm what do I tell the bartender?" That honestly rubbed me the wrong way -- just felt unprofessional and awkward. Jenny got a tequila cosmo, which was fine, nothing special. Food-wise, everything was just average. The bao buns were overcooked and the bun fell apart, though the flavor was decent. The pineapple fried rice was probably the best thing we had, but even that was just okay. We also had dumplings -- Jenny liked them, but I thought they were just alright. Dessert was the biggest miss. The blueberry cobbler was not good at all -- maybe a 3/10 at best. One thing that really didn't sit right was when we asked to split the tasting menu and were told no. That doesn't make much sense -- if people want to share, especially for a tasting menu, it should be allowed. Overall, nothing stood out in a good way, and between the service and the food, solid ambiance , it just wasn't a great experience.

Portions were larger than expected, and each dish was very shareable, so you can easily try eight things instead of four if you plan it right. They also have live jazz music -- every Thursday from 7-10pm, and on Friday and select Saturday nights from 8-11pm. If you want a clear view of the musicians, try to sit on the right side (opposite the entrance), though the middle works too. It's a fairly small space, so most tables can see, and all tables can hear. Overall, it's a fun spot -- good food, a relaxed vibe, and the live music (when available) adds a nice touch. If you're looking for something new to try when in the Beverly / Salem area, or a good date-night venue, I'd check out Sala.
