This was a restaurant was cute, it had low lights and date night vibes. I liked that I could get a small pho ga. My husband enjoyed a thai basil rice They had a pretty extensive Mai Tai menu with rum or vodka options. The fruit that came in my raspberry mai tai was skewered on a sword. I love those swords. The food was excellent!! I had Salmon cooked to perfection! My date had Orange Beef, also equally delicious! Our waiter was working so hard despite being short-staffed a Thursday evening before the 4th, might've normally been a quiet night. But, you never know. I got a lemongrass chicken stir fry from the "vietnamese" menu. I got nose-blow chicken. It looked like snot. Im sorry. It was the weirdest semi-transparent white-ish sauce that ive ever been served on a plate and it most resembled mucus. If youre dirty, you may think something else. Yum yum YUM !! it was our first time at Sugar Cane and we very much enjoyed it. First off our server was wonderful, funny and friendly. They have a big drink menu which we got our mai tai flights from , they were yummy! I had ordered the chicken pho , even the small order was big ! The pupu plater came with some of the best chicken fingers I've had. The beef fried rice was flavorful. I didn't get to try the chicken lettuce wraps but my partner did say they were so so GOOD she couldn't stop eating even when she knew she had to stop haha. It was my first time here and I will definitely come back!!! I wish the menu had more variety of vegetarians, but I made do. The fresh vegetarian rolls are great. The best part about it is the peanut sauce; thick and flavorful. Scallion pancakes are crispy and fresh. Drinks are great as well! Mai tai flights for $12. However, the pho was the best part about the whole experience. I ordered a large vegetarian pho and it was my first time having any type of pho. It is SO flavorful! I've been several times for lunch and a couple times for dinner. It's decent. The mai-tai flight is neat and I've never had a bad meal except the one time I got wonton soup that was indelibly salty... but it's not exactly their specialty. Great service. We sat at the bar for hours and I probably consumed about 3 red lotuses and 1 other drink the bartender suggested. The red lotus will have you feelings tipsy so if your driving make sure you have something to eat or call and uber. We had the fried rice and walnut shrimp. Everything was great. Upon two recent dining experiences at Sugar Cafe I am forced to update my reviews of this restaurant. Sugar Cane prior to the Covid Crisis was a enjoyable dining experience. Recently I dined there with family members and once with my wife. Neither time was the food tasty or prepared well. Upon mentioning to the waiter that the tea was extremely weak: the waiter raised his shoulders and walked away. The rice was bland and tasteless. Another time when ordering tea it came cool. I asked for a tea to be hot. It was brought to me hot the second time; although, the food was sub par at best. What a shame to see this place lose its appeal. read more

We just tried this place for the first time being new to the neighborhood and should have looked on Yelp first. Google says 4.4 rating and talk about overrated. Too greasy and no where as good as Fantasy Island. I have a stomach ache from eating here.... Disappointing for sure. Crab Rangoon too greasy and the Rangoon filling was too sweet. Chicken fingers looked and felt overly greasy. I'm told they were ok but too greasy. Shrimp fried spring rolls were ok. Probably the best out of what we ordered. Wonton soup seemed to be over cooked. They have been around for a while and with good reason. They are great! The food is always yummy and cooked just right. They have a great selection of both Vietnamese and Chinese food and the service is wonderful. The owner is kind and helpful and they rarely make mistakes. Their delivery is so quick and the guys are always nice. The only reason for 4 stars and not 5 is their horrible location. There is never any parking and being on Main Street, it's impossible to park anywhere. But I guess it's a good thing, means that they are busy! read more

Wow, my last review was in 9/21... So definitely time for an update. Last night we were a group of '4' for drinks and dinner. When I drove up I noticed what appeared to be windows boarded up... thinking, Oh no! What is going on? we are not talking one small window... it was nearly the entire front of the venue. When I asked the manager, Kevin I was told it was due to vandalism... how horrible!!! Needless to say other my small dinner party there weren't many diners there last night. Our table was ready when we arrived with fresh place settings. One thing I've always felt about this place is how clean it is... from the restrooms to the bar it is spotless. Our server, who I recognized has been their since inception took our drink orders. Within minutes he returned with our beverages. I had ordered a regular mai tai... I took on sip and yike it was quite strong... I actually had to ask for extra juice and ice because I really didn't feel comfortable drinking it the way it was. We ordered appetizers and our meals. Due to my food allergy I always keep it vegetarian... so I ordered my usual vermicelli bowl with grilled vegetables sons fish sauce. Others ordered similar with one who ordered the Walnut Shrimp and an appetizer. It wasn't long before our food was served and it all looked great. Each and every time I've ordered this dish ( the vermicelli bowl) it's constantly delicious. The vegetables are usually grilled eggplant and asparagus , very flavorful. The fresh layer consists of herb - mint, basil with slithered zucchini carrot etc. The vermicelli has never been rubbery or overcooked... just perfect... So I was pleased to say the least.. Other than my dining companion who ordered an appetizer in addition to her meal, we polished off everything.. Our server was attentive, refilling our water glasses etc. as needed. When we finished her brought over containers for those who had food left ( not me!) to bring home. We then had the usual fortune cookies and tea and lots of conversation... Well, I know one thing : while there I had the feeling that I definitely missed this place. So it will not be long before I return! read more

Arriving with the intent of trying some Pho, I didn't want a big meal and instead opted for the Pad Tái with crab rangoon. I had come down for lunch, but being on call I didn't get any alcohol. But I was happy to find Thai Iced tea on the menu. It was mellow, subtle, but otherwise pretty good. The meal seamed somewhat small, but I found myself quite satiatited and satisfied. So the portions are just right, which is not common in a lot of restaurants. If they are, then it's expensive. Not the case here, the Pad Tài was very reasonably priced. I thought It was quite tasty, but I wouldn't consider myself an officionado and haven't had enough to compare but otherwise, I enjoyed it. Only complaint was some of the chicken was cold. Crab rangoon were light, not saturated in oil or grease, and it was very good. What I was most impressed with was the speed of service and how quickly the food came out. I was in and out within 20 minutes. I think the reason some of the chicken was cold is because everything is pre-cooked then prepared to order (well, duh! I KNOW reader, please bear with me). The staff were very pleasant and polite. I otherwise enjoyed my experience. And now that I know what is available I'm going to drag my wife in now that I know there are at least a couple of things she would eat. read more

We went here tonight and I will say I am torn on the rating. The restaurant is very quaint and has a great atmosphere. There is only street parking, but it wasn't too hard to find a spot. I got the dumplings pan fried, which were pretty good, but what made them amazing was the ginger sauce. Their ginger sauce was unbelievably tasty. Best I have had. I also had the wonton soup, which was very good. It was less salty than other Chinese restaurants, and I liked that. Then our entrees came. I ordered general gao's chicken and lo mein. My husband got chicken pho. He said he pho was excellent and really loved it. My meal got a bit complicated. The kitchen forgot to make my chicken, so my lo mein came without it. Then, when my waiter brought it out, it was still raw in the middle a little, so we called a manager. Through all of this, I will say that our waiter and the manager were awesome. They were so apologetic and the manager went directly to the kitchen to find out who made the mistake. They offered to make us a new one, but I was already full from lo mein and apps, so they took it off our bill and then some. They gave a very generous discount off our bill which we were grateful for. I am torn about the rating because they were so accommodating and friendly, and there were parts of their menu that were great. Then there were others that weren't. This place offers Chinese and Vietnamese cuisine. After tonight, I'll be sticking to their Vietnamese food if I go back. Our food took quite a while to come out, and when it did, the waiter said the kitchen "forgot" to make my wife's General Gao's chicken. Then, when it finally came out, my wife cut a piece open and the chicken wasn't cooked in the middle. The manager apologized, and they took it off the bill and also took 40% off of our total for the meal. The one thing I really liked about it was the pho. It wasn't bad at all. I had lunch at Sugar Cane today and it was really good. I got a lunch special, which was sesame chicken. The sauce was nice and light, not sticky and gloppy like I've had at some restaurants. Their fried rice is light in color and fresh, it doesn't taste like it was made in the morning and sat all day. I personally don't like my fried rice to be dark and super salty. To each his own. Ordered take out as a recommendation from the hair stylist I was with that day. Had a hangover from the night before so was really craving a hot bowl of pho. It was delivered hot but was the least authentic bowl of pho I've ever had. It tasted like they put actual sugar into it, which could be related to the name, but was not what I wanted at all. I also ordered dumplings which I ended up throwing away. My friends went there on another occasion and had a similar lack of authenticity experience. The pho was a huge problem. Not only was the broth completely FLAVORLESS but the meat itself (one beef another seafood) was NOT seasoned at all!
