    Calamari Rings
    Ailun H.

We chose Chiang Mai for dinner this past Tuesday since it had a lot of good pescatarian options. It didn't take us too long to get our food after ordering, but service was a bit slow. CALAMARI RINGS - 15 This was the perfect sharable between the three of us since we were able to enjoy at least 5-6 calamari rings per person. It was fried perfectly and went well with the Thai chili sauce (?). Without the sauce, it would have been a bit underwhelming though. PAD SEE EW (+SHRIMP) - 20 The pad see ew was very flavorful, each wide noodle was coated with a generous amount of sauce, which was mostly savory with a hint of sweetness. The portion of noodles wasn't too big, but it did come with half a plate of broccoli and julienne carrots. I would have preferred Chinese broccoli (gai lan), which is what is normally in the dish. JUMBO CRAB MEAT FRIED RICE - 25 The crab fried rice was pretty disappointing. The fried rice was bland and the crab meat was dry (maybe overcooked?) leaving each bite unsatisfactory. I would not order this again here. The interior is clean and spacious. Not a bad spot for Thai (a more Americanized option) in downtown McLean.

Ambiance 4.5/5 The atmosphere here was very nice. The low lighting made it feel very intimate. There's plenty of seating with an outdoor patio as well. There are booths and tables and the seats were very comfortable. They've got a bar area with a little stage for live music. I love the little trinkets that are on the shelves all over the restaurant that give it a unique vibe. Service 4/5 Our waitress was nice and friendly. She explained the dishes and gave her recommendations. She even warned us about the Thai spice levels. Tom Yum Soup w/ Chicken ($8) 4.5/5 The soup was delicious. It was creamy and had a peppery and savory flavor with a bit of heat. The chicken was soft and tender. The vegetables in the soup were refreshing. The mushrooms were chewy and the onions gave a nice crunchy texture. A good soup to enjoy before an entree. Khan Soi w/ Chicken($18) 4.5/5 This was a really tasty and hearty dish. I really liked the taste of the crispy noodles and the crunchy texture it added. The soup was creamy and delicious. The noodles were soft and chewy and absorbed the flavor of the soup. The chicken was tender although there wasn't much of it. The veggies tasted very fresh and were also crunchy. This was a little on the pricier side but was a decent portion size and pretty filling. Mango Sticky Rice ($9) 3.5/5 The mango sticky rice was soft, creamy, and slightly sweet. The mango was soft and warm, not very flavorful but tasted fresh. The rice was sticky, creamy, and chewy. The mung bean topping added some crunch which contrasted with the soft texture of the dish. A decent dessert but I'll try something else next time.

It has been awhile I feel pretty good about the bill after I eat. Food was actually tasty and price is super acceptable. I tried their soup and curry, and other entree and I think their curry is absolutely fantastic. Service was really good as well. They are very prompt and made sure my drink is always full. The weather outside was nice yesterday that I sat outside and it was quite and really cute

If you're having trouble finding this place, don't worry -- it's a little hidden. Just head down the stairs next to the Afghan restaurant to the ground floor. The layout can be deceiving, but trust me, it's absolutely worth the trip. The food was incredible -- some of the best I've had in the area lately. * Crab Fried Rice: 9/10 * Salmon Green Curry: 9.5/10 * Khao Soi with Chicken: 9/10 * Pad See Ew: 10/10 * Service: 10/10 Everything was packed with flavor, perfectly balanced, and served with genuine care. Highly recommend!

Love their new location! The menu is also way more expanse with lots of new choices and food to choose from. The flavor and taste is great, and service was too even though they were busy. I loved the Thai tea and the frozen teddy bear, and we ordered the Chiang Mai noodles and Chiang Mai curry. Sad the pandan lava cake dessert had sold out but we want to try it next time! Food came piping hot, fast and I highly recommend this restaurant for Thai food.

Chiang Mai Thai Cookhouse offers excellent northern Thai cuisine, great service, and a lovely ambiance. The ceiling is adorned with stylish metallic lanterns, enhancing the sophisticated atmosphere complemented by vintage decor and a large bar featuring various wine bottles. The Lao papaya salad, featuring fermented fish paste and crab, paired well with crunchy green papaya and deep-fried calamari. The shrimp pad Thai had a tangy tamarind sauce, and the Beef Ka Pow Krob was fulfilling with its subtle, sweet chili garlic sauce. Their desserts were great: the lemon pudding cake and the standout Thai tea chocoflan.

Wow, just wow! The food was amazing. Ordered the panang curry and drunken noodles both medium spicy with chicken. It was so good!! I really liked the interior decor. Too I would have given them 5 stars had the food come out faster.

I've been following this restaurant since it was in a small location on Elm Street. Their growth and expansion was no surprise since the place is consistent in delivering delicious and flavor exploding dishes every time. The service is courteous and attentive, always making sure that you have enough water in case you order a spicy dish. They have dishes for all palates and taste. If you can tolerate a little heat (it's not too spicy), try the Chiang Mai Noodles. If you have a sweet tooth, try a more traditional dessert like the sticky rice and mango. The spring rolls will not disappoint. Overall, this is a hidden gem of McLean... or maybe not so hidden anymore.

Chiang Mai is a comfortable and conveniently located Thai restaurant with a wide range of offerings , friendly service and convenient parking. We enjoyed the Tom Yum soup and the Thai papaya salad. Both portions were very generous leaving enough to pack up and bring half home. The entrees of the drunken noodles with beef and the shrimp pad thai were the same - tasty to enjoy at lunch with enough to bring home half. For dessert, since our favorite, mango with sticky rice was out of season (one more reason we are excited for winter to be over already) we had the crispy bananas with coconut ice cream. The bananas were indeed crispy and hot on the outside and warm and yummy on the inside. The ice cream came with chocolate sauce and whipped cream and though it was a little hard from the freezer, we couldn't wait for it to soften before it was all gone. The interior of the restaurant has some interesting collections which we would love to hear the stories behind. Someone had a wonderful childhood with cabbage patch dolls we suspect. The seating is comfortable with a lot of large banquet tables as well as regular tables. The parking garage has plenty of spaces and is right around the corner of the building.

Finally made it and it was as fabulous as we had hoped- perfectly balanced papaya salad- fresh / flavorful / light / tangy - not too sugary. Drunken noodles were light as air, and tofu eggplant delicious! Outdoor patio is MAGICAL!!!!!!! Fantastic service- and they made me a less sweet tequilla cosmo that was excellent!

Pad se ew with tofu and veggies, bursting with flavor! Hands-down the best pad se ew in the area - McLean/Tyson's/Vienna.

Now, the restaurant itself is deceptively unassuming. It's tucked inside a strip center behind a bank and next to two other (well rated apparently) restaurants with only a handful of seats, both indoors and outside. DO NOT let the appearance deter you from sitting dow and enjoying what will be an unbelieveanly good meal . We kept it simple - we started with the special fish dumplings (fish based dumpling around a pork/mushroom filling), the Yum Woon Sen and their house Drunken Shanghai noodles. My wife asked for mild, and j asked for medium on the spice levels The flavours were simply divine. The portions were perfectly sized in this era of gigantosaurus dishes and the service was helpful and friendly. The only possible negative comment was that my medium spicy was leaning toward the mild (ok - it was actually mild) side of the spectrum. That's certainly an issue that can be overcome - and is always better than falling on the other end of that spice spectrum where you risk having your face melt during the meal. We will definitely be back - and cannot wait to explore more of the menu!

Quality cooking with dishes that definitely don't skimp on the sauce! The service was mediocre, and the interior has a dark, old fashioned feel that shows its age a bit, but the food itself is quite good. If you get the panang curry with beef, I really liked that they used freshly sliced pieces of beef. The curry was missing a little spice for me, but grab the chili tray and add some peppers and it is chef's kiss paired with rice. The chicken satay comes loaded with peanut sauce, which I personally loved and would definitely recommend for peanut lovers. Finally, the fried rice was delicious! The individual grains of rice were nicely separated, the prawn was cooked perfectly, and the pork floss on top was a delightful touch. One thing to note is that the happy hour food items are only available if you also order alcohol. I was disappointed by this since I'm currently on medication and unable to drink, which we explained to our server but they still could not offer it. This meant I couldn't take advantage of the happy hour food deals.

The wrap tasted buttery, which was a little different than what I have had before, and the duck didn't really taste like duck and there wasn't much of it. The papaya salad was fine, but not the best I have had. It was a little bit spicy. For the main dish, I ordered the hang-over noodle (Khee Mao), which was I think their version of drunken noodles.
