I've really enjoyed this place in the past. But today as disappointing. The Chicago cheesesteak...though the flavor was good....it sure didn't have much meat/cheese....so it was so much bread. Then, the Italian beef....had some pre-fab consommé broth for the aus jus...which had an off putting taste. The Chicago dog was good. This was kind of a let down to be honest. The service was good. They were nice, but it wasn't exactly clean inside and the food was just ok. Floors were kinda sticky and no tables had been wiped down so we brushed crumbs out of the way and sat down at a table. I tried the Philly Cheesesteak and it wasn't anything close to a Philly in my opinion. There was hardly any cheese to be found and it was really dry. The steak didn't have much flavor either. Maybe they were having an off night, but I was expecting more based off other reviews. I'm not saying they don't make other good sandwiches, but I don't really recommend their version of the Philly Cheesesteak. I did like the bread they used for the Philly. So that was good. If I'm in the area again I might give them another shot and try sometime different since it wasn't bad. It was just ok. read more

Freshly made sandwiches and great service! Good variety as well. They have classic Philly cheesesteak options and other fancier/ less common options. I got to try the BLT and the Halle(peño) Berry. The BLT was pretty generic, hard to mess up a BLT. I was skeptical about the Halle Berry sandwich but it was actually super good! It had cheesesteak beef, cream cheese, grape jelly, and cream cheese. It was such a perfect blend of savory and sweet. If you're not good with spice though, I'd recommend taking out the jalapeños. We love this place! My husband and I both rave over our food every time we visit. Among our favorites are the Springfield Style cashew chicken sandwich (so good!), the wet Italian beef, and spicy Philly. I also loved a special that was curry with mint sauce. I ordered a Philly Cheese Steak, with extra cheese, and asked for mayo and lettuce to be added. I also ordered a cheeseburger without onions or pickles. What I received was a cheeseburger with onion and pickle, and a Philly Cheese Steak with nothing on it. No lettuce or mayo, and not even enough cheese to be counted as a topping. The bread was toasted to the point that it was almost a crouton. Slightly burnt and so crunchy it fell apart. The meat fell through the now broken bun and went all over the to-go container. I live 4.3 miles away according to Google maps, and it wasn't even luke warm when I got home. The cheeseburger was room temperature as well. Didn't taste bad, but didn't taste good either. Could still taste the onions and pickles. They were not busy when I went in there, so they don't even have being rushed as an excuse. I couldn't find a way to communicate my complaint on their website, so you have to waste a bunch of time talking to the employees until the manager is able to pick up the phone. read more

Stopped by here on my visit from Cathage to Springfield because it had decent ratings. I will start with the positive. The fries were very good. The bread on the sandwiches was also very good. Are these legit Philly Cheese steak sandwiches? No. I mean, it's 2023 and I get one of THE worst Philly Cheese steak sandwiches I've ever had in my life. How is that even possible??? They really aren't rocket science but so many places get them working. This place is one of them. I got the "Chicago" and "Cheese steak" sandwiches, both with beef. The Chicago was decent but it just felt strange eating it. The cheese steak sandwich was inedible and weighed about four or five ounces. Very meager. At least give me $10 worth of ingredients, even if they are bad or burnt like the one I got. Very disappointed and won't be back because you can tell that they think they really have something good going and probably won't ever change. Still not a huge fan. Got the special of the day; a Chicago Cheesesteak which came with drink and fries. Service was good, came out decently fast. The issue I have is the sandwich's just aren't that good.. I mean the breads okay, but the meat and ingredients taste straight from the Walmart freezer section. Also why charge extra for fries; I mean is anyone really eating that whole bag?!! Sure it's okay if you're sharing I guess, but to be honest I don't like soggy fries anyway. $8 even for a special just seems a bit on the higher end for something I don't consider a "premium product." read more

Folks were friendly enough. However, being a native Chicago southwest sider, a couple of points: 1. Chicago does not specialize in cheesesteaks. 2. I had an Italian beef, portion of beef was 1/3 of what it should have been, gravy / au jus was watery, giardiniera lacked flavor, 3. The picture of the Chicago hot dog shows that these folks don't understand what makes a real Chicago Dog. No offense intended, just fact. This business has so much potential. Super tasty. Tip: you can get your sandwich on a bed of love or fries if you don't want bread. My 12 year old gobbled up her bacon burger. My veggie Philly was amazing, though I wish I had gotten it in lettuce. I didn't see that I could get it that way until after I started eating. The bread was good, but would have saved the extra calories. The fries were delicious, although my daughter added salt to them. But as I always say, you can add salt but can't take it away. To start just going to say I'm completely out of my element here, this is the only place I've ever had a cheese steak sandwich and it's the only place in town dedicated to them. They have two locations, one downtown, the original and then one over south west off Battlefield. The place is clean, staff friendly, got some cool culture going on with the decor, almost like you could add to it sticker wise. Here is where I'm lost, don't know what is the difference between a great one and an ok one. We have always had fantastic service at both this location and the downtown one, the staff are always very friendly and upbeat. There's a bit more seating at the south side location, which is nice. The employees are friendly and pleasant. The food is quick but not prepared ahead of time getting nasty under a heat lamp. The fries are hand cut.
