The Chicago Chop House hits the mark on quality, professional service and atmosphere! At last I've found a steakhouse that is worth the visit! I've been very disappointed lately with steakhouses that claim to be the best: Ruth Chris, Sullivan and even Mastro! Service: From the very beginning of our visit, service was strong. As we entered the door we were greeted well by the host who seemed highly invested in the restaurant. He even said my last name properly when he greeted us. He was very accommodating on seating to meet our needs. The bartender Nikola ( sorry about spelling), was excellent in attending to us immediately when we sat down. He listened well on what we needed in our drinks and level of sweetness. The drinks were perfect, thank you! The next shutout goes to Edwin who was working very hard on the floor: he made us a fabulous chop salad, brought out food and just filled in! He was definitely the star of the show! Great work ethic! And lastly I would like to recognize Roxana (sp?) who also worked extremely hard in making sure we had the proper silverware and our table was always kept clean and tidy. She did not miss a beat! Great service means the world when you are on the town for some dinner! Many thanks to this great team!!!!! Food: as for food, it was just as good as service! As mentioned, I've been disappointed with food quality and size! First all of our portions were big! The chop salad could have fed 4 people if you just wanted a small salad. And the salad was excellent! It was a lot more than just lettuce. Great blue cheese! And the loaded potato was just as good: the potato must of been over a pound plus all the fixings. The bacon that they serve with the potato and as an appetizer is out of this world! Lastly our steak was perfect: good thickness. Steak was cooked properly the first time, as it should be. To cap off our meal, we ordered cannoli: the desert is big enough for at least three people. The dessert comes with three cannolis. The only thing that was small was the shrimp cocktail. A steakhouse experience that absolutely delivers from the very first bite Lobster escargot, filet mignon, crispy golden onion rings... and somehow it still gets better. The lobster escargot was rich, buttery, and bubbling with flavor--one of those dishes you slow down for because it's that good. The filet mignon? perfectly cooked, melt-in-your-mouth tender with that beautiful center that speaks for itself. And the onion rings... crunchy, seasoned to perfection, and completely addictive (no sharing here). Paired it all with refreshing mocktails and cocktails that were light, citrusy, and the perfect balance to all the richness. Then came the whipped potatoes--smooth, creamy, and comforting in the best way--and the house bread with that soft, warm center and golden crust that you have to tear into immediately. Every plate, every sip, every detail... truly incredible. One of those meals you'll be thinking about long after it's over And I honestly need to talk about the service, they had staff that was so ready and on it, ready to serve and take orders, came around tables to make sure that we were being helped, even the owner stopped by! I had been to this restaurant about 25 years ago and absolutely loved it. We are in Chicago visiting colleges and I returned with my kids hoping to give them the same experience. We went for Thursday night dinner and it was not crowded at all. The hostess must have been on her break because there was no one there to greet us when we came in. The servers from the dining room noticed we were waiting and tried to fill the gap by saying someone will be right with you. While we didn't wait long, it certainly was not a great first impression. I do love the ambiance and the decor of the restaurant. It has a great old school charm. The music playing fit the vibe and made for a nice setting. It would have been enhanced with a piano player to play the very nice piano in the front of the room, but it guess he was on break with the hostess. The rest of the night the service was good, but nothing noteworthy. It was what you would expect from an average restaurant. Same with the food. It was average. My son and I had the Tomahawk Ribeye which was cooked to our requested doneness, but it just seemed to be missing some flavor. It wasn't very juicy and honestly a little tough. We added a little peppercorn sauce along side the wild mushrooms and that helped. My daughter had the Fettuccine Alfredo which was again ok, but nothing special. It was a little dry and stuck together. All in all it was a very expensive average meal in a nice setting. My uncle brought me here 30ish years ago when we were in town for a meeting. What I remembered was an old school steakhouse setting with superb service, excellent steaks and great drinks. Fast forward thirty years and I'm in town and a colleague asked if I'd ever been here. So I told her about my experience and she immediately said let's go! So a group of us went in and it's just as I remembered. Amazing service, spectacular steaks and a bar tender that understands how to make a manhattan. We had a reservation for this restaurant on Friday (my birthday) night before Mother's Day and received outstanding service from Fanny! We did have trouble on the way there as we were running a little behind and made multiple attempt to contact the restaurant ahead of time to let them know, my Fiancè was just placed on hold several times or hung up on. However I called and was able to speak to Debbie who immediately helped and passed the message on. The restaurant itself was amazing, we loved the classic music and the service we received from Fanny, she was kind and explained the menu and made my birthday dinner very special with a crème brûlée for dessert! The ambience is very romantic. The second floor feels a liitle more open than the first floor. The patio might be interesting during the summer. Service is excellent. We never had to ask for more water or to replace a utensil. The bread was crusty and warm. My companions enjoyed both martinis that they ordered. Our eyes are bigger than our stomachs. The wait staff did not blink when we shared the appetizers and entrees. We tried the Waldorf Salad which was light and balanced. Everyone liked the steak tartar. The lobster special was 16oz, but the flavor was mild and a little overcooked. The dry aged rib-eye was hard to cook evenly. All the sides including the Mac and Cheese are big portions for sharing. The Godiva Lava cake and crème brulee were delicious. We saw the Carrot cake and the Alaska came out for another table and they were huge. When I made the reservation I indicated it was a special occasion. I received a phone call the day before and confirmed it was our wedding anniversary. We were congratulated upon arrival and the staff was attentive throughout the meal. The drinks were great. The steaks (filet mignon and NY strip) were perfectly prepared. The salads, side dishes, and desserts were outstanding. They couldn't have done any more to make it a special evening. read more

I really enjoyed this restaurant, our waiter was great very knowledgeable and funny too. The food was very good the Colorado rack of lamb with the mint jelly was superb. Any restaurant with sweet potatoes on the menu is good in my book and this place has a good variation of it. I would recommend it. read more

Went to Chicago chop house for my boyfriend's birthday and it did not disappoint! Service was amazing, where our server offered delicious recommendations and even a personalized menu, which she rolled up and gave to us at the end of our meal. She also gave us a crème brûlée to celebrate the birthday which was Ordered roasted tomato burrata for appetizer, Delmonico steak, truffle Mac n cheese, and creamed spinach. Steak was flavorful and cooked to perfection, and our other favorite was the tomato burrata. Took the rest to go and used it as a pasta sauce the next day! We went out to celebrate new beginnings and they gave a special version of the menu that says congratulations as well as the delicious creme brulee. Our server, Grace, was very friendly and knowledgeable and all of the staff encountered were friendly and kind. She made wonderful recommendations like the lobster bisque instead of the French onion or the steak butter with herbs versus the garlic one. These were fantastic suggestions and were delicious. This was my second time here. Enjoyed the crab cakes and meatballs over the calamari. The brocolini was crisp and flavorful. The mains were both quite filling and satisfying. We went into the chophouse with high expectations--and they dropped almost immediately. The steaks looked incredible, but surprisingly lacked seasoning; we ended up ordering garlic butter just to bring out some flavor. Unfortunately, the sides followed the same pattern--pretty bland, and we had to reach for salt and pepper just to make them passable. Honestly, it was disappointing, especially after hearing over and over that a Chicago chophouse is a "must-visit" experience. After a $300 bill for two, leaving still hungry wasn't exactly the plan. It just didn't live up to the hype, and I wouldn't recommend it based on our experience. On the bright side, they were prompt with seating when we arrived for our reservation, which I appreciated. 3 stars is probably a bit generous. My boss loved the lobster bisque and brought us here to experience it. The bisque was okay, not really creamy enough and lacked that sherry finish, keys to a good bisque. Always up for trying a new steakhouse and we came across Chop House while walking around the neighborhood. We decided to make a reservation for Thanksgiving! We arrived -20 minutes early for our reservation and had to wait closer to our reservation time which is understandable. Unfortunately, they allowed guests to eat at the bar so we had to stand in the waiting room which caused confusion when guests were trying to check in w/ the hostess. They were very busy so the food was delayed and didn't come to the table hot. We started w/ the grilled oysters which were great for an appetizer. I ordered the sea-bass which was seasoned well just came out like warm. My guest ordered the cowgirl steak which she said tasted good and we shared the brussel sprouts and the baked potato. The stars of the evening were the wait staff, hostess, and our waitress Fanny! Did carry out. Absolutely stunning piece of filet. I mean, I cannot think of a better carrot experience. The onion rings were PERFECTLY crisp, the meat was so fucking juicy and cooked to perfection. The prices are outrageous, but if you're looking for an upscale meat forward large vegetable forward restaurant I can't think of a better more delish experience. Nice place with cool atmosphere, had some obnoxiously loud piano music that was somewhat annoying didn't come off as classy just off putting, also had a tv on with a weird competition about throwing sticky pegs on a table kinda ruined the vibe made you feel you were in a cruddy dive bar not a vintage steak house. Steaks were ok was really excited for something spectacular given all the locals saying this was there favorite steakhouse but wasn't anything ground breaking in terms of taste and presentation. Oyster Rockefeller was the same pretty and good just not anything amazing. I chose Chicago Chop House to celebrate my birthday this year. Every year I choose a steak house, and they were the fortunate ones to have been selected. We arrived at our reservation time and was able to get seated right away. Staff was very attentive through out the evening. Overall a very great dining experience. They start you off with free bread and butter. The bread comes out fresh and warm and I believe there's a charge if you want more bread. We also ordered their Baked Truffle Burrata. You get Burrata cheese baked with a marinara sauce and served with ciabatta bread. Very filling especially when you've essentially eaten bread twice already. Big mistake on eating both haha. My wife ordered their Petit Filet medium and I ordered their Bone in Ribeye medium rare, both wet aged. The ribeye was pretty big and perfectly cooked medium rare. The steak was juicy with more than enough fat. Perhaps a little too fatty. My wife's filet mignon was very tender and pretty damn tasty for being cooked a medium. I still prefer my steaks cooked medium rare, but I would ah overall the filet tasted better than my ribeye. We also ordered a side of their Bacon Cheddar Mashed Potatoes. This side came out piping hot and remained that way until the end. It was more than enough food to fill us up. The bacon was thick cut and complicated the cream mashed potatoes very well. We also received free lava cake for my birthday. I love when they do great acknowledgments like this. Would definitely consider returning here. read more

Fantastic old-school steakhouse. A piano player knocking out 50s blues in a dark club while I'm sipping a Gibson. Perfect. We tried both the wet-aged and dry-aged filets, accompanied by horseradish and blue cheese. My heart just skipped a beat at the thought of it. Varnished wood and soft lighting is the perfect backdrop for a family meal or special occasion dinner. Check out the sweet patio before cold weather rolls in. The food, the service, and the vibe were all spectacular. This place is classic. If you are looking to go somewhere where you get old-school treatment to make you feel like you are the most special guest in the house, this place is it. My wife and I shared the shrimp scampi and the chopped salad. Both were perfectly prepared, and the portions are generous. We thought of sharing the prime rib but then each ordered our own. In the end, we could easily have shared (but then we would not have had some to take home as we did, which would have been sad). The prime rib was cooked to perfection. My wife's was medium and mine medium rare. The chef got it exactly right. One of the available sides is creamed truffle corn, which is cut fresh off the cobb, and it is a must. Though we did not finish our prime rib, we still finished with lemon sorbet and a "Happy Anniversary" crème brulé. The meal was amazing, and the service was equal. This place is staff in white dress shirts, black ties, black vests, and black pants, and these folks work as a team. Our water glasses were never half empty, the wine was always attended to, and the service was attentive but never rushed. Our meal was well-paced with proper gaps between courses. And, the recommendations by our waiter were spot on. The atmosphere has some energy because the staff are flowing constantly from table to table. But conversation is easy to carry on. The tables are spaced well enough that you are not listening to the conversation at the next table, and the music is low enough to be heard but not to interfere with the ability to talk with someone at your own table. This is a place you go to be treated well, to enjoy a full evening, and to people watch. We were there for almost two and half hours, and we noticed others were there longer and some who arrived when we did also left about the same time, so it seems that meal pace was about average. The price point for the Chicago Chop House is on the higher side, but compared to other similar price-point restaurants I have been to, the food, the service, and the overall experience of those places did not match up. This old style steak house was the favorite part of my Chicago trip. We were celebrating our anniversary and the staff were so sweet and thoughtful to include anniversary menus & a celebration crème brûlée which was just absolutely delicious. I got the wet aged 8 oz filet mignon, which was so tender and juicy with an absolute great flavor. On top of it was a big onion ring which I had never seen before but seemed to be signature here at Chicago Chop House. My partner got the chicken parmesan which was a huge portion of spaghetti with red sauce and a big piece of chicken. We chose to share the truffle Mac and cheese which was so delicious and the portion was so big! For drinks we got the Chicago Chop House Rolls Royce Tequila Margarita, and the Chicago Chop House Vodka Blueberry Lemonade Crush. They were absolutely amazing and had me feeling it with one drink! Our waiter Jose was seriously the best. Helped us out a lot with his suggestions and just had the best service! He was very kind and made our experience very smooth with his knowledge of the menu. First off the steak itself was great. Had both the dry aged and wet aged - and both were fantastic and cooked to perfection. So this is not about the food. And our server was friendly. This is about being on the clock. They say you have the table for 1 1/2 hours, which is tight for a restaurant you are about to drop $200 a person in. I thought they had that policy just as an excuse to boot someone that was hanging around for too long. But no, it drives their entire operation. You are nothing more than the product they are pushing through. We were not done with our bread and away it went. But we were the lucky ones. This couple next to us was out for her birthday, they delayed in their meal selection by saying they were still looking and the server says well you only have an hour and half. WTF? Was that necessary? Also the manager has the table manners of a block of wood. He had to stop by another table and couldn't even do introductory small talk. Maybe the speed based approach is why they could not bother to decant a $200 bottle of wine. Anyway all that to say despite the good food - go elsewhere for a better dining experience. read more

In town for a tech conference, since I am originally from Chicago my team had expectations that I was a Chicago food expert. They put a lot of pressure to deliver. The Chop House did! Our waiter, Jose, and his team provided excellent service. They were very attentive and I never felt like I needed to call for a waiter. We ordered the Wagyu meatballs as a starter which we devoured. Jose recommended two steaks since we decided to order several items we can share. Jose recommended the porterhouse and the bone in Kansas City. Both cuts were properly prepared and we did not leave a piece of steak behind. I preferred the porterhouse because we did medium rare on that cut. The Kansas City was prepared, medium, but it was very well seasoned and flavorful. One of the sides was a truffle mac & cheese that did not last long between the four of us. We threw in broccolini to be healthy. For dessert, we shared a cheesecake and a peach cobbler. For me, the peach cobbler was out of this world. The generous dollop of ice cream really complimented a well made cobbler. The desserts are very healthy portions. I am glad we shared, but we also made sure to not leave anything behind. Great food institutions withstand the test of time. The Chop House left incredible impression of Chicago's finest and satisfied a team of finicky Floridians plus I am visiting food snob team member from Portugal. read more
