This steakhouse offers classic dishes in large portions. We tried a steak, pasta, fries, and a few cocktails and everything was delicious. The Old Fashioned I had here is probably the best version of the drink I've had anywhere. We ate upstairs in the dining room which has a nice street view and is well lit. The oysters are great- came with a jalepeno lime sorbet which was a great topping! The filet sliders were also cooked very well and very flavorful! The ceviche was a huge portion! I loved this. Came here for a girls night and I can say service was absolutely amazing!! Our waiter Ben was really good and giving his recommendations. He went above in letting us know what is good on the menu and we felt so welcomed. The ambiance inside is so good, it was a little warm and Ben made sure it got fixed before it got a little cool and it felt right. We ordered their lemon chicken which was a little dry and a little salty, but filled with a lot of flavors. Wished it was a little more juicier. Loved their truffle fries, we finished that off right away. The bolognese was good but it could be a little warmer for my liking. We also ordered dessert and it was good. It was a really big chocolate cake that could be split between more than 3 people. Talk about Service. We had a private group of 20 for dinner up in the velvet room, but wanted to have drinks at the bar beforehand. The bar was very busy but the manager I don't remember her name (tall Caucasian woman in all Black) was so helpful to get a bar room for drinks. She asked Amber , the waitress to come take a drink order and what excellent service. Then when we went to the velvet loft for our private dining, the matrie d who does the Training at the restaurant was so attentive. The food was delicious and amazing service all around. Was dreaming about this brunch the night before, that when the morning came, Tavern on Rush was my first stop. Despite it being very crowded, it was easy to get a table outside upon walking up. It was a windy day in Chicago, but the workers were hospitable and attentive. Highly recommend going with friends and splitting both a savory and sweet item, because both the omelette and pancakes were the perfect mix. The portions are extremely generous and the prices are extremely fair. This was by far one of the best brunches I've had in a long time. There is nothing better than starting your day with a delectable and delicious meal. Went today for a lunch meeting. I've been a few times. The glassware on our table had residue wait staff was OK, but one of them rolled their eyes at the acquaintance I was dining with. I informed them about the residue and they tried to tell me that that's the glass, but there were granules in the glasses. Outside of that the staff was attentive as there were only a few of us in the restaurant. It's fairly quiet during lunch. The gumbo was really really good. I went here for brunch with my family on a very cold January day. This restaurant recently reopened under new management and it was jammed inside. The chicken sandwich itself was decent and satisfactory. Really just a normal chicken sandwich, but I did enjoy the fig jam and Brie. However, the real issue with this place is the service. We were celebrating a birthday and not only did they forget the birthday dessert but it took over 30 minutes to get the check once we had asked. Our server changed halfway through lunch and this created a lot of confusion throughout the meal. My parents had gone here a few weeks prior and had a much better experience so I don't know if it was just an off day or what? I think it's an easy place to meet up with friends and I would try it again, but probably not anytime soon. read more

We were excited to see Tavern On Rush was part of Chicago Restaurant Week 2025. Since it opened in late 2024, we have been wanted to stop by. The inside is beautiful and we decided to sit in the atrium. I was impressed that the staff memorized our name from the reservation and continued to call us by our name throughout the meal. From the event menu we chose the soup of the day and the Whipped Ricotta. The soup was similar to a minestrone, a little heavy on the salt. The Whipped Ricotta on the other hand was the star of the show, creamy, sweet, a little salty, and had a well dressed salad. For the main we tried the Korean Chicken Sandwich and the Tavern Prime Burger. I was a big fan of the burger, cooked to perfection, and both came with a generous portion of well seasoned fries. Unfortunately the Korean Chicken Sandwich was a little overcooked and it has more of a teriyaki flavor than Korean. The gelato was nice at the end. The Chocolate was deep and rich and Pistachio was very pistachios forward (as it should be). Overall enjoyable experience and would highly recommend the Whipped Ricotta. read more

Had an amazing server by the name of Leah and we loved her. Started with a mezcal cocktail by the name of Only Fan...pretty decent! Then I followed that up with a Handsome Rob which is basically a Manhattan...very good. My final drink was an espresso martini with mezcal instead of vodka and it was definitely on point. For food, it was a difficult choice as there were so many good lunch and brunch options. I decided on the Steak Sandwich (medium rare) which was a good choice. Was a chopped filet with onions, tomatoes, peppers, garlic aioli, chimichurri sauce and chihuahua cheese on a toasted ciabatta bun...a lovely sandwich. Came with delicious fries. Came here recently with friends on a very busy Friday night. A few days prior the earliest reservation was 8:45pm, so be sure to plan ahead if you want a more prime time slot. Even in the bar area ahead of our dinner reservation, it was PACKED. The service staff did their best to navigate through the crowds. My friends enjoyed martinis is big elegant glasses (forgot a photo - different than the espresso martini one). Once seated, our waiter (a very tall man!) was great. We were greeted with a small sparkling wine pour and the option for still or sparkling water. We had some great Pinot noir from CA and I really enjoyed the pork fried rice. Wow, just send me some of that on a cold day. My pasta dish was comfort food at its best. I had leftovers! Went well with the wine, too. On June 9, 2026, at approximately 10:56 PM, I had a very upsetting experience at Tavern on Rush. A hostess seated me and my friend outside and provided us with menus. She informed us that we could have one round of drinks, which was completely fine with us. Shortly afterward, a man who identified himself as "Andrew" approached our table and rudely informed us that he would not be serving us because the outdoor area was closed. I politely explained that a staff member had just seated us outside, given us menus, and told us we could have one round of drinks. He responded by saying, "Well, I will not be serving you. I will serve you inside. Outside is closed." At that time, there were still multiple guests outside eating, drinking, and being served additional beverages. I then asked to speak with a manager. He stated that I was already speaking to the manager. When I asked to speak with his manager, he told me no manager was available. I then went inside and spoke with another manager, who listened to my concerns and informed me that it was, in fact, okay for us to remain seated outside. During that conversation, I learned that the employee's real name was Steve and that he had provided me with a false name. I felt singled out, embarrassed, and profiled by the way Steve treated me. His tone was rude and dismissive, and he removed the menus from our table before walking away. As a customer who has visited Tavern on Rush multiple times, I have never been treated in such a disrespectful manner. I appreciate the apology from the manager on duty, but I believe this incident should be reviewed seriously. No guest should be treated this way, and providing a false name while acting in a management capacity is unacceptable. I am submitting this complaint because I believe this behavior reflects poorly on the establishment and may not be an isolated incident. read more

The food at Tavern on Rush is exceptional! We went for brunch. I had the Asian Chicken Salad and it was awesome. My friend had the Seared Salmon BLTA and really enjoyed it as well. My former coworker and I stopped by Tavern on Rush for happy hour. They featured happy hour Sunday - Thursday from 3-6pm. Their selection is large with a dozen drinks and dozen bites. She started with the winter cherry, and I chose lush on rush. We started with the ricotta and Caesar salad. The Caesar was nice with the Parmesan crusts and the Ricotta presentation was very beautiful but a bit overwhelming. We had to try the pork belly fried rice which was my favorite. She ended with the black and gold and I had the espresso martini. Overall, the area was a bit busy for my liking, the bar was full at 4:20 when we arrived. Good to show out of town guests! read more

Ahhh yes, the much awaited legacy continues in the new - and much improved location inside of the Thompson! The ambiance is exquisite! The main level carries on the same swanky vibe of the original bar, although the bar doesn't feel nearly as open as the OG space, but still has large acordian doors that open to the sidewalk on a nice weather day. As expected, very crowded on a Saturday night with all the usual suspects. The City socialites scene is back in action and I'm happy to be here for it. This pocket of the city was just not the same without the Tavern. A fully elevated experience is found up on the second level with views overlooking the street and top notch professional service. The menu is different with a few carry-over popular items like the seafood tower and waygu meatballs. Everything from the moment we were greeted at check in to the time the bill came was well executed and has me already wanting to come back for more! I loved the mini glasses for bubbles, a classy differentiator to kick off the meal. Shout out to Lisa (server) for making sure everything came out to our liking and to Marco (GM) for going above and beyond when he learned we were the first to order the Seafood Cataplana. Don't hesitate to try it, it's quite phenomenal and a hearty portion for two. Truly made for a wonderful impression and I look forward to many more satisfying meals here. Disgusting and disorganized. Avocado toast was bland with arugula that was drenched in dressing, inedible; stale bread. Eggs Benedict with short rib was one of the most disgusting thing I've ever eaten in my life. The meat was like Mom's leftover pot roast from one week ago. I will give hats off to the back of house for perfectly poached eggs. The rest of the food was abysmal. The service was hectic and disorganized, even with very few patrons; very poorly managed.
