One of my sisters took me here for my birthday dinner. The service was A1! Very customer oriented and service was excellent. They kept the table clean, the water coming and always checked on us. We had the Rockefeller oysters, the scallops and potatoes, ribeye and filet mignon, brussels sprouts, meatballs, crab cake, truffle potatoes and birthday dessert. All were excellent but my favorites are the oysters, scallops and filet mignon. The meatballs were OK, nothing special and the brussels sprouts was OK as well. They have a great collection of cocktails and can make some off menu if you ask. They give you a welcome glass of champagne when you come in; the champagne is actually really delicious. Even though we came early in the evening, the place filled up quickly but was still comfortable and not really noisy. It's a beautiful restaurant; dark romantic and modern. I'll definitely be back for another birthday, girls night, or date. This place is expensive but it is worth an evening of being catered to with delicious food. They also printed menus with your name depending on the occasion and that's a nice sweet touch.

Wow! The service the ambience and the food were all 10/10. If the weather is nice I recommend you making a reservation outside. Trust me. Don't get me wrong inside is very intimate, but outside just feels more luxury. For starters we did tuna tartare and oysters . The tuna tartare I have to rave about because it was literally the best tuna tartare I've had in a while. For dinner I went with the Tomahawk steak, juicy and made to the most tender perfection. I can appreciate a good steak. We ended dinner with something sweet and chose the chocolate cake . Yum ! Try it . Service was outstanding and everyone was super attentive . I will definitely be back .

I had heard so much about Sophia Steak, so my expectations were high--but unfortunately, the experience fell short. The dining room felt very cramped and uncomfortably warm, even though we were not a large party. It took away from what should have been an enjoyable night out. The drinks were decent, and the crudo was easily my favorite dish of the night. Outside of that, the food was just okay and didn't justify the hype or the price point. For a steakhouse, I expected much more. The standout of the evening was the staff. Service was fast, attentive, and genuinely great from start to finish. They did everything right and were clearly well-trained. The decor is sexy and chic, which initially draws you in, but the layout and subpar food make the experience disappointing overall. One major downside: the restroom is up three flights of stairs, and the elevator wasn't turned on, which is extremely inconvenient and not very accessible. I'd consider coming back for drinks only, but beyond that, I don't see a reason to return. Style alone can't make up for an uncomfortable space and mediocre food.

RW Review Located in River North (Downtown Chicago), street parking can be scarce so def look into SpotHero if you can't find a spot. SIL managed to snag a reservation for restaurant week Monday night dinner $60 pp. We really tried to order different things from each other to try a variety. First Course: Appetizers - Hamachi Crudo: Just ok, didn't wow me as much as the other dishes - Shrimp Scampi: This dish was amazing. Nothing small about these shrimps, they were humongous! Second Course: Entree We both opt in for steak! - Flat Iron 'Sophia Steak': Mine was crusted to perfection and I've never experienced a steak like that. Could use a tad little more seasoning but overall pretty good. Was so full could not finish it so I brought it home for my husband and he was pretty impressed. Stated some of the better steaks he'd had. SIL said hers was too peppery though. Third Course: Dessert - Sticky Toffee Banana Bread: Enjoyed the warmness of the banana bread but could have used more toffee and stickiness for me - Malted Milk Chocolate Sundae: Pretty ok & could also use more malted chocolate balls for me too Extras: - Truffle Parm Fries: SO GOOD I couldn't stop picking at it & that's what got me so full - Creamed Spinach: Def skip. I was expecting for the spinach pieces to still be intact but seems that it was chopped along the way Drinks: - Easy Breezy Beautiful Erratic: I really enjoyed this drink a lot. - Passion at the disco (non-alcoholic): Super tasty and my SIL enjoyed it All in all really enjoy my visit here and the service was impeccable. Our server was such a sweet lady and made sure we were take care of. Def will be back & already booked a table for next month!

Came here with a group of girlfriends for restaurant week, and we had a blast! The ambiance in here is great, the bar is adorned with this almost cloud-like design all along the top, and the art in the place is super interesting to immerse yourself in. To start- they personalized our menus which we LOVED. Such a fun and unique touch To drink, I had the Hot To Go which was a fun take on a spicy marg with mezcal. Loved this drink but would have loved it even more if it was tajin instead of a salt rim. Our group also ordered a few bottles of wine which I enjoyed too! To eat some of us decided to go with the Restaurant Week menu! I had the Hamachi Crudo, the Flat Iron 'Sophia Style' steak, some sides including Brussels and Bacon, the Truffle-Parm Fries, and the White Cheddar Gratin, and the Peanut Butter Cream Pie for dessert (they were out of the bread pudding). The food was excellent! We could not stop talking about the pb pie.. so so good! Overall we loved our meal (and our waiter, shout out to Brenton) so much that while we were sitting at dinner, we planned a brunch for the end of the month! Can't wait to come back and try this brunch menu (how could we say no to bottomless?!)!

This place was so beautiful and really instagram worthy. I told them it was my birthday and they printed a birthday message for me on the top of our menus, which was a nice touch. We ordered dessert and I saw other people around us have a cute little dessert with sparklers, but they didn't do that for us. Wondering if it's because we ordered our own desserts. The steak and gratin were delicious. Highly recommend.

Sophia Steak is an upscale spot with a great vibe and truly patient attentive service. Even when it was busy we never felt rushed. The standout was the Potatoes and Caviar dish which is basically fancy tater tot style croquettes filled with raclette and topped with crème fraîche and Osetra caviar. Flavor wise it was absolutely amazing rich salty and addictive. The only issue was texture, the croquettes were a little mushy instead of crisp which knocked it down slightly. Still a great overall experience and I would definitely come back.

Went here for my wife's work dinner with her colleagues. There were 10 of us and we had a private room, which worked out well. The staff was very friendly and attentive. I ordered a cocktail to start and was very happy with it. A take on a Manhattan and was well done. We split the wagyu beef carpaccio which- WOW. It was incredible!! We also shared the 10-oz filet and the broccoli side. Was the right amount of food! All in all had a great time and would return!

Dinner here is effortlessly cute, Sophia's is heavy on the caviar and I'm absolutely here for it. I started with the Dry Decision cocktail, subbing in Hendrick's and blue cheese olives, which arrived accompanied by a caviar chip. The potatoes and caviar delivered a full, robust flavor profile without being overpowering. Pro tip: the lemon wedge is mandatory on the second bite, it brightens everything beautifully. For mains, the ribeye cooked medium+ was spot on, especially with the added chimichurri (a worthy upgrade). The creamed spinach was a favorite. The salmon, however, I could've done without, it didn't quite hold its own next to the rest of the table. We closed the night with the sticky toffee bread pudding. It didn't soar as high as expected, but it was still a warm, satisfying finish. There were a few additional items on the menu that caught my eye, so I look forward to returning. Overall: a chic, steakhouse with moody vibes and solid execution. Ideal for a dinner when the energy matters just as much as the food. Note: Table seating is fairly close so conversations tend to be communal rather than confidential. Also, a 20% automatic gratuity will be added.

I celebrated my birthday there, our waiter was so kind and very courteous. He checked on us every half an hour to make sure everything is OK. The food was excellent. Everything was cooked to perfection. The in-house cinnamon rolls were pillowy soft. And the chocolate cake with the candied hazelnuts is a must order not overly sweet and fudgy. Prices are reasonable valet parking. The decor inside is very comfortable and there's natural lighting from the glass windows.

Do I start with the ambiance or the service? That's always the dilemma. What hits you first is the beautiful décor, especially during the holidays. The light-filled entrance is festive and welcoming, and the bar (front and center as you walk in) is tastefully designed with warm, intimate tones. The bartender/server was informative, friendly, and refreshingly knew the dinner menu inside and out. Happy Hour is a great way to sample a few select appetizers and ease into the experience. The coconut shrimp is "expected, but the shrimp was tender! The potato croquettes were very tasty and hit the spot, along with the mildly spicy Nashville Chicken bites. This was a great start to the dining experience. Service across the board was impressive. From the host to the barback, runners, and management, everyone was attentive and on top of things. Tables were wiped clean between courses, and both the server and manager checked in just enough to feel cared for, not crowded. Now for the food... The au gratin potatoes were outstanding, and the Brussels sprouts are truly hard to beat. I loved the flavor of my ribeye, especially paired with the béarnaise sauce. The mushrooms were fine, nothing remarkable. But honestly, I just like mushrooms with my steak, so they did their job. Dessert sealed the deal. The chocolate ganache cake with hazelnut crunch was deeeeelicous. A little whipped cream or a scoop of vanilla ice cream might have taken it over the top, but I have zero complaints. And when I followed it with the Malted Milk Chocolate Sundae? Absolute perfection. This spot has officially landed on my updated list of Chicago favorites. I used to love Benny's Chophouse before it closed, and this restaurant has more than earned its place. I'll definitely be back.

Came here a few weeks ago for restaurant week. Very crowded, sat 30 minutes late, and felt rushed. We inquired about the 90 minute bottomless and was talked out of it by the waiter as he basically told us we wouldn't have enough time or we can try next time. We were shocked! Food was just ok and cinnamon roll was dry. Cute atmosphere but won't be back.

It is definitely unique, creative, and a massive differentiator from any other cocktail bar I've been to. Now, let's talk cocktails! The creativity of the interior extends into the menu. Unlike some places that just make variations of existing classics (except for items specifically so named, like the Old Fashioned or Espresso Martini), all of their cocktails are unique and interesting. Time for a punch card? I ordered the Maximillian the Imposter. While I'm not typically a fan of banana (except for banana bread), I thought I'd step out of my comfort zone, and I wanted to try something 'flaming'. Flaming it was! The preparation of the drink involved a surprising amount of fire. I initially thought this was just for show, but no, this translated into a noticeable smoky flavor. Beyond that, the drink was strong, not overly sweet, and an all-around delight. There was one bartender on the night I was here, and while it was busy, I was still able to get my drink in a reasonable amount of time. I also feel as though they have reasonable prices, especially considering the quality and the market rates. King of Cups gets busy, and for good reason: they are an all-around phenomenal place, from the drinks to the vibe, and everything in between. A guitarist sits somewhere against a brick wall and plays music lightly but energetically. Service is friendly from start to finish and smiles are on everyone's faces. The menu is pretty easy to understand. You can get a three-course meal, or you can get each entree à la carte. You have two fondue candles in front of you, one for the cheese and dessert, and the other for the oil. We chose the three-course meal, and it was delightful. We started with the cheese appetizer. You get a basket of bread and fruit and we chose the seasonal cheese to dip. The oil for our meat was then left to heat, and we received a massive platter of veggies and meats for our main course. We chose the option for all selections of meat and seafood. After trying all the meats, I would opt for the lobster and shrimp. You can also substitute the oil for a broth. I would like to try the broth for next time. In one of the shakers, Gejas makes their own meat spice mix. It's recommended to put on the meats and even the desserts. It's a mix of tangy and savory and was a great compliment to the meal. We then chose the seasonal dessert, a white chocolate with vanilla cookies. Fruit, marshmallows, and churros to dip. We were so full by the time dessert came, but we enjoyed a few bites and took it home. The three-course meal, with five types of meat, came with about 10 pieces of meat. It doesn't look like a lot of food, but it truly is, with the apps, veggies, etc, your stomach will be full when you walk out of here. They also start the entire course with a mixed salad (so technically it's a four-course meal). It was very fairly priced, as well. Initially looking at the prices, you may think it's expensive, but it truly is a value with the amount of food they serve. This was rated as most romatic restaurant in Chicago. Its ambiance gives you the romantic feel, the guitarist adds to the atmosphere, and the staff is professional and friendly. This really was a great place and we enjoyed our time and meal.

Not many Michelin starred restaurants can pull that off on a Monday, but Esmé always seems to have energy. This place has become one of our most reliable favorites. They change the menu a few times a year in conjunction with rotating local artists, and the restaurant itself feels more like a refined art gallery than a traditional dining room with white walls, clean lines, simple and elegant. Last night was no exception to their usual excellence. The experience is really anchored by Chris Gerber, a longtime Chicago hospitality pro, and his team. They are flawless. This is true hospitality in every sense of the word. They usually keep two signature dishes, and for good reason. The caviar supplement sounds odd on paper, but in your mouth it is absolute perfection. The cod sounds simple, but it is anything but, rich, decadent, and always one of the highlights. Everything new on this menu was also outstanding. Every course had beautifully balanced sauces that made sense with the dish, and the presentations were creative without being gimmicky or over the top. The plating always ties in with the featured artist in a way that feels thoughtful, not forced. One tip. Be careful when choosing your beverage pairing. We did not read closely enough and ended up with the more inventive pairing that included cocktails and a beer. It was fun, but afterward we wished we had gone with the higher end wine pairing instead. Bottom line. Esmé remains one of the most consistent Michelin starred experiences in Chicago. To echo several of the reviews below, the salad was awkward to share and scanty, the soup was good but the bread served with it felt like an afterthought, the sturgeon wasn't anything special though the sauce was quite good, and we are pretty sure the cut of beef was not wagyu or if it was it was not cooked the right way. The beef was the most disappointing part, I couldn't even chew through all of it. The add-ons were the best part - pasta was great and our dessert was delicious. But the rest of the meal was unfortunately mediocre. Hoping that others have a different experience with the regular menu!

Great dinner here tonight - had the mussels, burger, and octopus. All were exceptional. The drinks…read morewere also very good, and the service was awesome. Great meal overall.

Chicago Restaurant week. I reviewed various dining options in search of a good place for dinner…read more Reddit gave me some ideas. I'd never been to Willow Room and liked that they had a four course dinner menu, with items I liked. I was able to make a reservation for a Saturday night at 8:15pm. PARKING Parking on Halsted on a Saturday night can be a nightmare, and it did take a minute to find street parking. North of the 1800 block is busier because there are several restaurants within a two block radius. Side streets are permit parking after 6pm. Meters on Halsted are $2.50/hr. ATMOSPHERE Willow Room was pretty packed. We had a reservation for 8:15pm and my party of two was seated right away. The restaurant features a full bar, dim lighting and is nice and roomy. They have banquette seating around the perimeter, in addition to tables in the middle. SERVICE Our server, who was very nice and accommodating during our dining experience, came by and gave us our menu's. I had already decided on the RW menu and after review, my friend was interested in the Beef Wellington (not on RW menu). Our server informed us that normally the whole table had to order off of the RW menu if one person does, but said she would check with the kitchen since this was the last day of RW. Luckily, we were able to proceed with ordering from different menu's. FOOD I ordered a raspberry Cosmopolitan. I'm a Riesling/Moscato girlie, but I tasted the Riesling and didn't like it. RW dinner was priced at $60. I ordered: First Course: Caesar Salad (Typical salad, was good) Second Course: Mussels (Tasted fine, came with a baguette) Third Course: Short Rib (Could've been slightly more tender and better seasoned. I've definitely had better. Wouldn't order again.) Fourth Course: Orange Ricotta Donuts (Donuts were very good. Three were served, a few more would have been more filling.) My friend ordered a glass of Pinot Noir and: Truffle Fries (Fries were very tasty. I would order again if I went back.) Beef Wellington (The breading was buttery and very good. The beef could've been more seasoned. I wouldn't order.) Key Lime Pie (Was not sweet and had no taste. When our server came back and saw it was uneaten, she offered to take it off the bill. It should be removed from the menu altogether.) The busboys and server were very attentive. Our water glasses were always filled. OVERALL The atmosphere was nice, our server was great. Of all the food we ordered, I would order the truffle fries and Cosmopolitan again. I did leave full and did take my leftover Short Rib to go. Main dishes needed more seasoning. I would dine here again and try a different menu (brunch/lunch), or Happy Hour if they offer it.
