My laptop was infected with a virus and I originally took it to the Geek Squad and learned they wanted an outrageous amount of money to fix it! I found ComputerLand on the Internet and called for an appointment. Aldi was able to hook me up with an appointment right away, drove to my house the next day and was able to fix it the same day for only $90.00! He could have easily charged me more money if I had to replace the hard drive, however he was very honest and was able to fix it without doing that. Not only did he clean my system, he also proposed the quickest and cleanest solution which was a complete reinstall in my case. My overall service rating at Chicago ComputerLand is A++++ and here is why: My Toshiba laptop powered on, but would not boot to Windows and the screen remained black. I was very reluctant about having it repaired because every shop I visited had a high pressure sales pitch where they recommended a new motherboard and quoted high prices without examining the computer. Aldi, on the other hand, gave some speculations, but explained that he needed to open it up to properly diagnose the problem. The diagnostic fee was reasonable and there was no pressure to have the repair completed. Aldi assured me that he could fix most problems; his certification and prices were clearly posted. Turns out, I did have a motherboard issue, but it did not need to be replaced. Aldi was able to fix my laptop at a fraction of the price given by other technicians, and in less time. I dropped off my computer at 9 AM and picked it up exactly 24 hours later; in perfect working order and at a very reasonable price. I (like a dummy...) got a virus on my PC at work. As I walk by Chicago Computerland on my way to work, I popped in on a Saturday to see what kind of hope I had for it. The gentleman that i spoke with was informative. Let me know that he could fix the problem and would not have to wipe the entire hard drive in order to do so! I was THRILLED with the news. I confirmed that their Sunday hours are 10am-3pm and left. As my time is limited, I brought my computer by the next day, Sunday around 11am on my way to work and much to my disappointment, the store was closed. I double checked to see that it really did say it should have been open at 10am, how ever was not. This is why i have given them 4 stars. I went back over the next day, Monday and dropped off my computer and they had it ready by the end of the day! This made me VERY happy as it is hard to run a retail operation when I don't have a computer. I am sure that when this happens again, rest assured that I will be contacting them. Awful experience here. Brought in my laptop with a cracked screen, the guy replaced it with a totally different screen instead of just giving me a matte finish screen like original. Also, while repairing it he cracked a piece out of the case in the corner and I didn't realize until I got home. When I asked him about it he said that that's how it was before! Then he had the nerve to tell me he could get new casing for an extra cost!! Awful experience here, really felt taken advantage of and there's nothing I could do about it, the guy just acted like I was an idiot who didn't know what I was talking about and kept on saying how he had lots of good yelp reviews- I'm sorry but no amount of yelp reviews is going to change the fact that my computer has a chunk missing and was replaced with the wrong screen at full price! read more

Extremely helpful!! I was having screen and battery issues when I came in. The technician looked at my computer, tweaked a few things and it was fixed!! He told me that this was a temporary fix and told me honestly how much it would be to fix it permanently. He also showed me how to find the lot number for my battery, since it needs to be replaced. These guys are awesome. I have used them years ago when I had a virus. They cleaned it up at an affordable price and added a better virus protection. Years later, I mistakenly changed to another virus protection provider and ..yep got a another virus. I should have listened to them and not tried to save a few bucks. While I was there, they has some suggestions and changed my laptop to a solid state hard drive. They upgraded my Asus laptop, didn't charge me much, and now my laptop is super fast. I wish I could rate ComputerLand higher (and would have a month ago), but after years of taking my family's computer issues to them I had an extremely disappointing encounter. Ultimately (if you want to skip my narrative), I am EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED in the service I received on my last visit and will NEVER BE RETURNING. As I said, I have taken things to Aldi and Stefan for years now. I recently took a crashed external drive to ComputerLand with full confidence the gentlemen would be able to quickly and affordably restore the drive and/or recover the data. Imagine my chagrin when I am told that to recover the data it could possibly cost $900!!! WHAT?!?!? My data is important to me but that's the cost of a brand new computer! On the verge of tears, I asked explaining how loyal my family has been to them if we could work out some kind of payment plan. I was told absolutely not! Again... WHAT?!?! Very disappointed and shaken, I arranged to pick up the drive. Upon arriving at ComputerLand (mind you, after letting them know I would be coming by two days later to pick it up), I am handed a bag with my drive in pieces. WHAT!?!? You didn't even put it back together?? I also realized (and SO glad I checked) that the connecting cord for the other drive I had provided was missing. They then tried to hand me a connecting cord for a completely different brand (which I don't trust) telling me they're all the same anyway. I asked them to connect the drive to make sure the replacement cord would work and the message "Drive not formatted" was displayed. They tried to assure me that they never touched that drive... UM, THEN WHY WAS THE CORD MISSING???? I was then berated on not being willing to pay the $900 because "other places would charge 3 or 4 times that!" without having brought up the extreme price while visiting. I have never experienced them being so rude. Maybe it was an off day, but sorry gentlemen, YOU'VE LOST MY FAMILY'S LOYALTY AND WE WILL NOT BE COMING BACK. read more

Be aware of Computer Land rip off / scam like tactics for minor (5 minutes) repairs which I have paidr$ 120.00 !? I have learned after that average charge for repairing charging port is from $ 35 - $ 40!!! Here is the story: I looked for a nearby computer repair shop online because my charging port got a loose connection and the laptop was not charging. When I brought it to Computer Land shop, I asked what is the standard or approximate charge for this minor repair, but never got any specific answer nor approximate estimate. The explanation was, they could not possibly predict the extent of repair until they open lap top. When I asked when they will look at it, again no specific answer. After my insistence that I cannot wait indefinite time, they said the most likely will look at it from 24 to 48 hours, but if I pay extra $ 40 they'll look at it right away. I was very unhappy about it because it was supposed to be a very minor repair and complained to Stefan, most likely the owner or manager, but no compassion nor understanding for my argument. When he called next day and told the that charge for repair is $120 I thought that was on high side for couple of loose wires needed to be connected, but Stefan bluntly and very coldly said: "That is our standard charge for this kind of repair." When I argued that I was asking yesterday for standard or approximate charge, again no answer. I have learned a lesson for future computer repairs, not to trust yelp reviews, get different estimates from different shops and NOT TO USE ComputerLand EVER AGAIN!. p.s. Just wondering, after reading all those "great" and/or "awesome" reviews, how come ComputerLand technicians charged me $ 120 for patching up couple of wires, max 5 minutes work? Did I look to them very stupid or rich, too old or too naïve? read more

I don't understand all the five-star ratings. They did an okay job. My daughter cracked our laptop screen and they replaced the lcd for about $160. They initially said they may be able to replace the screen in a couple of hours, however, it took 6 days. I understand that they may not have the screen in stock, but they should have called back with that information once they found out. They did not respond to two of my calls during that time period. There was a holiday during that time but they still didn't respond to calls made before and after the holiday. On the 6th day I was able to get a hold of someone and they stated it would be ready in a couple of hours. When I called back more than 3 hours later, they again said it would be ready in an additional two hours. When it was ready, they handed the laptop to me closed and off. When I turned my laptop on in the car I noticed a damaged pixel. I immediately brought it back and they said it is normal to have 4-5 damaged pixels with a new screen. I feel they should use a better supplier. They said to call back and maybe they could work something out but I couldn't get an agreement that they would replace the screen with one that is not damaged without additional charges. I didn't bother returning it because it was just one pixel but when you pay for a new screen you expect it to be perfect. I called Pro Andersonville for an estimate before I called Chicago Computerland and their estimate was slightly cheaper. I went with Chicago Computerland because they said they may be able to do it in a few hours, while the Pro Andersonville folks were upfront and said they didn't have it in stock. I think I'll try Pro next time. read more

I was told that my laptop, only 9 months old, could not be repaired when it suddenly stopped turning on after some sort of power surge. I was told that the mother board was fried and that the cost to repair it would be over $300, so I may as well buy a new one. Well, I did because I was on a serious time constraint. But I loved my old laptop and was intent on getting it fixed. After reading the excellent reviews for Chicago Computerland, and getting several quotes from other repair services, I decided to bring it in. Computerland offered a $30 diagnosis fee (which would be applied to the repair cost if we decided to go that route) - other companies quoted anything from 2 - 4 times that amount...just for a diagnosis! By the next day, computerland had told us what the problem was and that they could fix it for $80! The next day (2 days after we brought it in), my laptop is up and running perfectly for the price they quoted. I am so relieved to have all of my files intact and to have my beloved laptop in functioning order again. I will use this company exclusively from now on - it seems hard to find a tech repair company with this much integrity that charges so fairly. In fact, I've got a desktop I need repaired at home right now - you can bet I'll be bringing it to Chicago Computerland. read more
