Last week, we had Ilan out for an estimate. He came to the house and told us he could start the next day and that business was very slow. He sent his proposal on an invoice form rather than a proposal or estimate form. It included a waiver holding him not responsible for any damages that he caused -- something we would never sign. I can't imagine anyone reading and signing that waiver. I questioned the wording on what Ilan called the "proposal" that said Home Depot would contact us regarding payment for construction materials. Ilan stated that construction materials would be paid for by him as he verbally told me and texted me. So why say Home Depot would contact me for payment? He claims to be a lawyer, so he should know that should not be in the contract, but he never offered to remove the wording. We were not getting a good feeling from any of this. The next day, I contacted Ilan and told him we had retained another company. Today, I got an email asking for payment of his invoice for $14,500. Total fraud/scam. I responded and told him I would contact the Illinois Attorney General's office. It is questionable what his name and business really are besides a scam. Beware. read more

Elan and team were able to get a backyard studio shed in November in Chicago, taking advantage of the seasonally warmer weather we had recently. The space is nice and insulated and has been a place we can work, play, or lounge even in colder weather. We cant wait to use it more and use it as another outside space next spring. read more

This story started out as a compliance nightmare in Cicero, trying to save a unit from possibly being deconverted, but the city had said I couldn't do what needed to be done to achieve compliance! Ugh! I knew I needed to find a GC to do all this as this was my first time learning about the permit process and all the headaches with that. Furthermore, so many GCs I came across either seemed incompetent or wouldn't touch a job for less than $100k! I feel very lucky to have come across Ilan and his crew. Not only was he a pleasure to work with, he helped take over meeting all the compliance work and effectively became my liason with the city. He was able to articulate things in a way that made the city realize their position was untenable (perhaps his former attorney skills?). All the time, he was very reassuring about my concerns and great with texting me photos and info of the work in progress. He redid a bathroom, gutters, plumbing work, electrical, and tuckpointing! As with any large job there are always a few obstacles, but all in all, Ilan's process worked, and was very fair in the way he managed the job and each work change order. His incremental approach to work ("let's get in there and see what we have before quoting too much!") was great as I didn't feel I was getting a quote for work that may not even be relevant. Highly recommend Ilan if you need a very fair and fair-priced GC who will get all your work done in quick order. Will definitely look to hire Ilan again for my next big project! read more

We contacted Chicago Constructions for an emergency drywall repair that was needed asap. We seen the great reviews on Yelp and decided to try them out. They were very prompt in responding to our questions about quoting and they were able to get someone out immediately to come by to repair our drywall. They sent their best worker Giovanni and he was prompt, professional and knowledgeable. While looking at the drywall, Giovanni noticed we had a problem with a Cooper pipe that was leaking onto the drywall. He assessed the issue and was able to reach out to management to let them know there was an issue that would cause him an issue to repair the wall properly. They gave us a quick quote for the plumbing that would be needed and they sent a plumber right over to fix the Cooper pipe. They were able to fix the pipe and complete the drywall all in the same day. Thanks Chicago Constructions! We will definitely use them for any future projects. read more

I had an electric fireplace that was inoperable due to a burned out blower. The electric fireplace insert was grouted into our mantle and required extra care to cut out because it is encircled by tile. Chicago Constructions answered my inquiry the following morning (I had submitted it at 10pm on a Sunday), and had an estimator out on Tuesday. The gentleman that came out for the estimate was incredibly confident that his workers could accomplish this project without damaging the tile -a tough task. The next day their technician, Santiago, came out and began the work. He used a grinder in a way that could be described as surgical. Santiago was perfect in cutting/removing the fireplace, and even disconnected and wire nutted the wires for protection. The project was completed in a span of 4 days, from the moment of inquiry to completion. Recommend these guys for any general contracting, and will be using them in the future for any work I may need. read more
