Can't say enough good things about them! We were looking to replace my wife's engagement ring (which she lost a few years ago). We were recommended to try the Chicago Gold Gallery. We couldn't be happier. 'Joe' who owns the CGG was so unbelievably helpful. There was no pressure. He showed my wife everything that he had in stock. If you've ever been to one and end up here after reading the reviews, you'll know exactly what I mean. I was looking to sell some jewelry to help pay for my wife's mounting medical bills and had gone to three other establishments for offers. EXCEPT for my experience at CGG, I alway felt I was being played and would leave without selling and feeling a little grimy. At CGG, I worked with the owner and quickly sensed that he was a professional, a person of integrity, extremely knowledgeable, taking the time to explain how the business of buying and selling operates. What I initially thought/felt on my first visit was proven out on a return visit this week, when he, to my great surprise, showed me paperwork for a item of mine he bought then sold on Ebay that delineated his asking price, selling price, Paypal's fee and Ebay's take. Since I new what I'd sold the item to him for (which was the best offer I'd received, btw), I new that I wasn't being taken for a ride. read more

I came in here with my wife with the intention to sell our gold but the man who worked here had a condescending and unwelcoming attitude from the get-go. Most places in Chicago that purchase gold will have a list price of what they will buy your jewelry for based on the purity and current price of gold. This is a price that also allows them to profit since they are businesses. Based on our experience at several other businesses that purchase gold, that is generally a conversation that occurs once everything is weighed and purity is determined. Just a couple of minutes after we walked in, without weighing a single piece of jewelry or determining the purity, we were asked "how much do you want? I'm here to make a profit." We told him we weren't even sure how much it weighed. At other businesses, weighing the item is a courtesy. It felt like it was a burden here. He then begrudgingly weighed it and told us the ounces/grams. We signaled to each other that it was time to leave and that was the end of that. Perhaps we caught him on a bad day, I don't know. We certainly were not going to do business with someone who was not pleasant and seemed burdened and turned off by our presence. We will not be coming back, and based on our experience, I cannot recommend this business. read more

Naturally, the ONE time I choose to go to my friends place there was a banking issue-WHAAAT?!?! And while I don't like to judge, I was not about to sell my scrap gold and take a check that could possibly bounce all over the city of Chicago. Owner and his daughter went through my mother's crap jewelry both good and QVC garbage. They gave me CASH MONEY on the spot!!! $500 over what initially was quoted but to be fair to the other place, I did add some items HOWEVER didn't have to wait a over a week to collect!!! This is the place to go if you have items of VALUE, only mention as I saw some of the ridiculous yelp reviews. The owner was WAY more diplomatic refuting in length than, I would ever be to such accusations of cultural/racial NONSENSE. This is a business NOT your family member loaning you money-HELLO. Instead of going the retail route to buy an engagement ring, I recently purchased a diamond and ring/setting from them. Not only did they work one-on-one with me to educate me about the diamonds, but made the whole process easy and hassle-free. They located stones from wholesalers, let me look at each of them under a magnifying glass to see the condition/clarity of the stones, then had the actual ring and setting made from scratch based on my input. None of my close friends could advise me as to how to sell some coins my uncle had left to me. One of them, a dealer in antiques, was not able to identify someone to contact for advice. Online research gave me tons of information which was more than necessary. But the takeaway after such research is you better prepare yourself before speaking with anyone, because the industry has had as many bad experiences as other industries and other customer service misfortunes. All of this is UNTRUE when you walk in the the door of Chicago Gold Gallery. Personable, knowledgeable, and down to the details. The collection I had contained numerous pieces ranging from 1881 to 2017. We went through each one and the online research to understand how the values are determined was confirmed by the way in which each coin was scrutinized and notes were taken. Opportunities to let me know my return would be welcome anytime when some of the coins just had not reached value as of the beginning of August this year. I was so relieved to have their knowledge, and expertise. I left holding a check for my coins which I really needed, but the amount matched what I had noted before arriving. More than what I anticipated because the value of silver was higher the day of my visit to Chicago Gold Gallery than when I did my own estimate. Chicago Gold Gallery has been in Rogers Park on Devon for years. They love Chicago and heighten the level of business acumen for Rogers Park.
