We had a terrible experience trying to sell some of my dad's gold that we inherited. Calvin was pushy and got frustrated when we went down the street to get second opinion on the quote he gave us. All the other quotes that we got for our gold were much (25%) higher and the stores had better customer service. There are tons of options in jewelers row, that provided us a better customer experience. I would be very cautious when shopping here or selling gold. They are looking to make a deals for themselves and put the customer second. Definitely get a second opinion on any potential purchase or transaction, I wouldn't trust these guys at all. read more

Even at scrap value, it should have been close to $1K - $1.2K and I didn't get anywhere close to that. If you are going to go in and sell your jewelry, do your homework ahead of time. I had been looking for a few weeks and went to 7 stores before walking into LMJ and within a few seconds I had a feeling this was going to be the place where I would ultimately make the purchase (assuming of course they had what I was looking for). Garo greeted me as I walked in and asked what I was looking for today. I told him the cut of the diamond, ring style and budget and he came out with exactly what I wanted. He took the time to tell me everything about the diamond (4 C's), made me find and read back the GIA number to him while looking through a microscope (only jeweler to do this) and we discussed the pros and cons of the setting I wanted. Throughout the entire process I felt as though I was being educated and I never felt like I was being sold on something I didn't want. I definitely had the intention to buy an engagement ring online, but I ended up buying from Calvin @ LMJ. Here's my story.. I typically do the majority of my shopping online....Why not? It's 2017...No tax, free shipping, free returns... don't have to deal with sales people...So naturally, that's where I started my search. I knew that I wanted an emerald cut diamond and I learned what I could about the 4 C's... I then went to the reputable online retailers where I looked through a TON of inventory, asked a bunch of questions with live reps, compared, compared, compared, when FINALLY I narrowed down my selection to about half a dozen options... However, they didn't have a setting that I particularly liked, and to get a custom setting, I was quoted a price I thought was way too expensive. I ended up calling a few local jewelers I found on Yelp, LMJ included, to get some quotes and all came back with pricing much lower than the online retailer for a custom platinum setting. So to get the best bang for my buck, my plan was to buy the loose stone online, and get the exact setting I wanted locally. I figured, since it's no work on my end, why not take a look at a few diamonds in person as well... this is where things turned for me.... I gave the specs that I was looking for to Calvin, who within a few days got back to me and said..."I have a few options, but I found the perfect stone for you." I thought... yeah yeah sure, typical sales pitch, headstrong that I spent all this time researching and narrowing down stones that nothing really was going to change my mind... So I go in and take a look at the his options...and yes, the stone he picked was a stunner.... So what about my online options? Here's how I flipped... Calvin picked apart my choices one by one, demonstrating his extensive knowledge of what makes a good diamond and explained to me things I would have never factored into my search that go well beyond the 4 C's... For example, he thoroughly explained the nuances of how higher carat diamond could look smaller than lower carat diamond given the dimensions of the table and depth. He provided an optimal range for an ideal stone and when I added those additional parameters to my search, almost ALL of my online choices fell out. He said that while my online choices were good, that they would never shine as bright. He even went in detail about fluorescence, which one of my choices had, despite it being internally flawless and he explained how fluorescence immediately drops the value 15%-20%. He even showed my under black light with a few diamonds how it it impacts the look. At the end of the day, Calvin was nothing but straight forward with me, patient as I compared through all my online options, extremely knowledgable, but most importantly, helped me find the perfect ring for which my fiancee now loves and can't stop staring at! read more

My wife and I went ring shopping for her engagement ring a few months ago with an exact thought in mind. We wanted a tanzanite center stone with one trapezoid-cut diamond on either side. We also knew we would have to shop around a bit to find someone with a decent knowledge of tanzanite who wouldn't try to push us into a traditional diamond engagement ring. As expected, most jewlers either had little knowledge at all and would rather dazzle us with a vastly more expensive diamond ring or tried to convince us that if we want a blue stone, what we really want is a sapphire. After several hours of making our way down the block, we came to Wen at LMJ. He understood exactly what we were looking for in the color, the cut and the quality of our center stone and the side stones. He didn't have anything in the shop that day, but he knew he could get the right thing in within a week. Sure enough, he called us a few days later and we came back to see the three stones he had gotten in. Each was excellent, though one was truly perfect. From there we were able to quickly pick the side-stones and begin discussions of the setting itself. He cautioned that a halo setting would give the most protection for such a large, soft stone, but that there were other options to allow more light into the stone and show off the blue color while still setting it low enough. At this point, we expected the typical sticker shock and calculator games. We had even privately determined the best price we figured he could possibly give. Unprompted, he gave us a quote for $500 less than the best price we had figured. He didn't screw around or play games. He got us what we wanted for a fantastic price. The finished product was everything we hoped for, and we've since purchased a matching pair of earrings, my custom wedding band and a custom emerald necklace from him. I learned about LMJ from a friend who had a great experience with this jewelry store so I stopped in not knowing what to expect. I was looking for a custom wedding band that would fit flush to my engagement ring (which has a scalloped band). The engagement ring is Tacori but the Tacori wedding band that "matched" was not what I was looking for as it had gaps when putting the engagement and wedding band together and didn't fit perfectly flush to the engagement ring. I came in with a thought in my head and they sat with me and drew up some ideas on how they could design a band that would be flush to my ring. The drawing was different than what I originally had in mind, but an even better design. I was nervous, but excited to see what they were going to make. We discussed which diamonds would be used (they helped me pick some that were the same size as some in the engagement ring) and they even showed me an example for comparison (as close as they could, having never made anything like this before). I left my engagement ring w/ them and picked up the band this weekend and am beyond happy. They even added the tiny detailing on the side of the wedding band that matched the engagement ring. When I first stopped in they were unsure whether they were able to do that detail and they surprised me and did it! I went back two days later with the fiancé and we purchased his wedding band there too! The guys who work here are extremely helpful and friendly and they give you very, very fair pricing!
