The Pit Sandwich: pork, brisket and links with Cole slaw and Mac 'N Cheese
    Joneice B.

We had a great dinner at this restaurant. We opted to check it out as it is on the InKind app (get 20% back) and had good reviews. We were able to find close meter parking nearby. The restaurant itself has a cute patio with heaters, a full bar and seating area. We were led to the seating area which was pretty quiet. Upon being sat in our booth, the waiter delivered complimentary bbq chips and pickles. For drinks, my husband opted for a Halloween bourbon special and I just got an Arnold Palmer. For food we both got robust bbq sandwiches. I got the Pit which contained pulled pork, brisket and two links. The sandwich came on a bun with bbq sauce and slaw. The Pit was full of tender meat. I set aside the brisket and links for leftovers and focused on the pulled pork/slaw. As apart of this meal, I opted for the Mac and cheese for a 2.50 add on. It was worth every 250 Pennies. My husband enjoyed his burger which came with two patties and brisket. He thought the mash potatoes were very flavorful. Last but not least, we got the carrot cake. The carrot cake was delicious. We enjoyed this the next day . The cake itself was huge and had to be cut into two to fit into the to-go container. We ended up sharing half the cake one day and the other half the next. So 4 satisfying slices of cake. All-in-all, I would come back here. Most staff were friendly. Our server did his job but wasn't the most friendly. Seemed like he was having a bad day but he wasn't rude, just short. The happy hour specials looked like a good deal for the Gold Coast. Further, expansive Bourbon and Whiskey menu. They offer reasonably priced flights with full oz pours. Lastly, they are offering smoked turkey dinners. The dinner for two includes 20oz of smoked turkey, several sides, and pie. Check it out if you don't wanna cook for Thanksgiving.

Great service Relaxing atmosphere. Hefty portions. Got the Q-burger and mashed potatoes. Portions are large - you'll probably end up taking some home. Chill atmosphere that is great for a date or hanging with friends . Good music- but not loud like a club. Food was cooked perfect and everyone made us feel right at home. Check this spot out!

Back at Chicago q to try some other menu items! Loved the hush puppies to start. Was obsessed with the Mac and cheese as an upgraded side + the coleslaw added a boost of refreshment in the midst of all the meat. Pretty quiet on a Thursday night but was great to be seated quickly. Loved how each table came with pickles and chips.

I've been here a few times and it's always been great. I'd recommend any of the combo platters so you can try several types of BBQ. We ordered: - Brisket Meatballs - Combo 3 w/baby back ribs and cornbread It was plenty for two people. They also start you off with pickles and chips, both were a bit sweet. I definitely recommend trying it if you're curious! Great food and great staff.

Went here for brunch and their chips and sweet pickles that they serve you on the table were so so good oh my gosh I had the Mutua I believe for drink. I forgot to take a picture of the food, but I had the large mac & cheese with burnt ends on top and a piece of fried chicken and when I tell you, this was probably one of the best pieces of fried chicken at a restaurant that I have had. It was so seasoned and so crisp all of the thigh was a little small. I'm not even mad at it because it was so so flavorful will definitely have to come back and actually take photos. Our server was very nice and attentive. He kept checking our table asking if we were OK. Staff was clearing out dishes that were empty and it was a pleasant experience. The vibe is very cool for friends gathering a date or even family. It's a very welcoming environment.

Enjoyed a late weekend brunch on the patio with a beautiful quaint ambiance. Right away a cool jug of water, house made sweet butter pickles and BBQ seasoned potato chips were brought to the table complimentary. OMG the perfect sweet and savory start! Took me a little time to peruse both menus because it all looked great so it was nice to nibble meanwhile. The kind waitress AJ recommended the breakfast skillets as a guest favorites and it really was excellent! The meat was tender and with the dipping sauces it was fun to try all of them. Included in the skillet were eggs any way you wanted (I chose over easy runny yolks) and country seasoned potatoes (although the menu reads they come with hash browns, today they ran out). Not as much meat as I expected for a $24 price but overall a very filling and satisfying meal. I'll definitely go back & order another skillet or inquire about another savory dish with the same meat. The service was polite, attentive and prompt. I had quite a few bags and she offered to hold them which I truly appreciated. I had hoped to save room for a carrot cake slice and expresso but I was just too stuffed. Next time. On my way out, I went to the restroom. It is only a single so when I went in it was dirty and definitely needed attention. Somebody had forgotten to flush after getting sick in there. I let the staff know so hopefully they addressed it right away.

This was a good Bbq restaurant. I can't say it was best of the best but it was fine. We ordered the burnt and and burnt ends sandwich. The coleslaw was placed under the burnt ends which made it a tad warm. we didn't see out waiter much but by the end we got about everything we order (minus one drink). The restaurant inside was pretty empty on a Sunday afternoon but the patio was pretty lively. It is off a busy road and that made for some interesting and loud cars at time. The Mac and cheese wasn't great but not terrible. The sand which had alot of burnt ends packed into it which was nice but unfortunately it because incredibly challenging to eat. I'm looking forward to going back and trying a few different items. The cornbread was pretty chunky too so I would skip that as well. We may have just picked some poor items.

Delicious! A little pricey but very nice inside and the patio. You get pickles and chips to start which is such a nice touch. It's southern food and they do a nice job with diversifying the menu. The service was fabulous! Great brunch spot.

This location has lots of seating. They have seating outside and the seating in the front is right by the doors outside. We went for the brunch and it was really good. The Bloody Mary self serve bar was very popular. They start off with complimentary potato chips and sweet pickle chips. The pulled pork and combo sandwiches were large. The shrimp and grits while very tasty had a bit too much sauce for me. The server was fantastic.

Holy Chicago Q!!! This is the best BBQ I have ever had and I have had A LOT of bbq. We dined here for restaurant week, and they feed us WELL. The portions were enormous for a $45 tasting menu. The house made chips and pickles are unreal. I need a continuous supply of those in my home. The prime rib was tender and perfectly cooked/seasoned. I have never had a better prepared piece of meat. But the star? The carrot cake. I had this dessert on my list for over a year, and somehow it still blew all expectation out of the water. I want that cake at every celebration of mine moving forward. Wedding, birthday, anniversary, you name it. I need that carrot cake. Staff was awesome and attentive. Very few people dining at 8pm on a Tuesday but it felt nice and intimate as opposed to barren. Def will return

    Cobb Salad and Cornbread

I went here for a friend's birthday on a Monday night before Christmas. It was pretty dead, but nicely decorated inside. I got the Cobb salad with chicken and tried the cornbread. Both were very good. I definitely think this is a good option in the Gold Coast Neighbourhood. However, the service was so bad that I have to knock it down a star. There was literally no one there and it still took over two hours. I'd still go back to try other items though.

Cannot fault anything, great service great food, nice atmosphere... I guess it'd be cool if they had some beers on tap but I'm not marking them down for that. Can't wait to come back. Try the pickles.. best I've ever eaten.

Brisket. Burnt ends and the best hush puppies I have ever had.

We have been enjoying several restaurants in Chicago for restaurant week. We have a winner. Best value and incredible food and service goes to Chicago Q. We discovered this place when walking past one day and saw a sign out front saying $5 old fashions for happy hour. Well we had to try one or 2. Ordered our drinks and along with them came a bowl of homemade chips and a small bowl of sweet pickle spears. Made my day. The server was engaging and the place in general was just nice and inviting. Went back for restaurant week and boy was it amazing. The amount of food we received for $45 was insane. And it was really good. We are define going back. May have found our favorite restaurant.

He was so helpful as it was my out of state friend's first time there and I so appreciated his patience as the ordering process here can be extremely overwhelming. As he gave us the run down on the three dining tiers available, we were brought seaweed salad and kimchi as well as a fresh salad and come cheese corn. We decided on the gold tier as it was a good middle point in both quality and spending! I can't believe there were unlimited drinks downstairs as well as two types of milk tea and chocolate and vanilla soft serve. I actually ended up making a milk tea shake which was incredibly refreshing with the heat of the grill and the smokiness of the meat. We ordered so many rounds of meat that I couldn't keep up with them all so I just posted a lot of pictures (see below.) I've come here a few times before, but this time felt so much more personal things to our server as well as getting there before the big lunch rush. Someone give Justin a raise as he was buzzing around to the tables around us each giving them a personalized experience as well! This is definitely one of my favorite places in Chinatown to come if you're looking for food that is both high-quality and for a good price! Definitely order the lamb chop -it's spicy and smoky all at once and since there is a bone in it, it was extra juicy! 12/10 will be coming back.

I am pleased to report that Blackwood BBQ is somewhere between "good" and "very good". It won't knock your socks off, but it is nowhere close to "bad." It's perfect for what it is, that being: a spot for a bite during the lunch hour. On both visits, I ordered the two meat platter, with brisket and sausage. Both were flavorful and savory, with the brisket being balanced in terms of meaty vs fatty (as requested). Now, that said, the prices at Blackwood are on the high side. On the one hand, I know the price of a pound of ground beef is greater than the minimum wage (as of this writing). However, I also can't help but feel the punch to the wallet when two meats and one side, where one of those is brisket, and a soda comes to somewhere between $20-25 (I think it's close to $25, but don't want to misspeak). Half a pound of meat is not a lot, making the wallet punch even worse. Then there comes the service. Most of the folks working here are professional and welcome. There is this one person, though, whose level of gruffness seems a bit high. It wasn't so much a lack of pleasantries for the sake of efficiency as it was annoyance that customers exist? Final verdict: If you're working in the loop, and craving BBQ, Blackwood is a rock-solid spot, but the high prices mean it likely isn't practical for a regular spot. If it's a weekend, there are better options out there.

I ended up ordering the smokey joe sandwich (vegan sloppy joe sandwich), with a side of mac + cheese, and a sprecher soda. Whether I'm using Grubhub or Uber Eats, I love ordering online because it's so convenient. I also want to praise my delivery driver for arriving at a reasonable time with my order and meeting me right in front of my residence. Grateful to have had a smooth online ordering experience because the likelihood of me ordering online again is very high. As for my order, my first response after my first bite of the vegan sloppy joe was, "Mmm, that is good!" If you are a foodie like me, then you know what the next few minutes--or, better yet, seconds--consisted of. Yes, I pretty much devoured that vegan sloppy joe, leaving nothing behind but what was left on my fingertips. The last time I had a vegan sloppy Joe was a few years ago in celebration of my birthday, and trust me, it wasn't as good as this one at Soul & Smoke. It could easily be confused with real meat if you aren't aware that it is vegan. I saved the side order for last, which was that delicious-looking mac and cheese. Mmm... "Oh my God!" was my initial response after my first forkful, which was lightly seasoned with a delightful taste. I must say it was the perfect side for the vegan sloppy joe. After my last bites, I had the slightest grin on my face, and the only thing on my mind was that I will definitely have it again in the future. The sprecher soda - cherry cola was the perfect complement to my meal. Introduced to me by Soul & Smoke, I am so pleased with this award-winning craft soda from Milwaukee's oldest craft brewery that I will be on the lookout for it in the future. I would gladly order from Soul & Smoke Avondale again, whether online or whenever I am in the area. With that, I am happy to share my endorsement of it with you all here on Yelp. Up until four years ago, I used to visit at least five or six times every single year. Last night was my first time back since then, and I was deeply disappointed by how much the standards have slipped. The entire evening felt incredibly rushed. The person taking our order seemed to be in a massive hurry, acting short and dismissive with us. To make matters worse, an automatic gratuity was added to the bill. While I understand this is becoming a common industry practice, a gratuity should ultimately be an option based on service. The server did mention at the end that we could have it removed if we wanted to, but customers shouldn't be forced into that awkward position in the first place. Unfortunately, the quality of the food has also gone downhill. I always used to order the ribs and frequently took extra food home because it was so good. Last night, the food left a lot to be desired. The barbecue simply isn't what it once was. When my uncle graduated in the 90s we went to your previous downtown location. He loved the restaurant as well; the food, the exceptional service, and the warm atmosphere. I went there year after year. While I respect that they have managed to stay in business for 30 years, there were just too many issues with both the service and the food for me to return.

GLUTEN FREE SAFE!! WOW. EAT HERE. 100% EAT HERE! We came for dinner. 3 of us shared the "Taste of…read moreDaddy" and it was absolutely amazing! Our server Daniela was sooooo sweet, and so knowledgeable, about the gluten free options, of which there are MANY. She just has the kindest energy. We are gf due to Celiac, so we have to be very careful, and Daniela knew her stuff!! She guided us thru the order process, and answered every question with patience and kindness, which we really appreciated. Some servers can be SO RUDE when you are dealing with true allergies, and she was so wonderful to us! The vibe is amazing. Great Playlist, super comfy booths. A really nice environment for sure! The food was absolutely AMAZING! ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS! Not one bad comment to make! We are going to comeback, and bring the rest of the family! We are super excited to return! Thank you for the amazing experience Smoke Daddy and wonderful Daniela! We appreciate you!

I felt that Donna might be trying to get me some good Q after the burnt ends debacle in Vegas last…read moreweekend, but she says she wasn't. Anyhoo, I got a rack of baby backs that were a vast improvement. Meaty, tender and moist with a tangy sauce. I only saved the last 4 bones because next day ribs are always a treat. Donna got the 2 meat combo- smoked turkey and brisket with really good beans and ok vinegar based slaw (she prefers mayo based but forgot to ask). The brisket was moist, not too fatty but lacked smokiness. The turkey had the smoke, but was right on the edge of dry. Overall, a solid BBQ joint.
