I thought it was nice. Last week, I visited the location on Broadway Avenue. It's far exceeded my expectations! The variety and quality of the fruit and vegetables was outstanding. It is the best produce stand I have seen in Idaho. I spent $35 on fresh produce, including morel mushrooms, local purple asparagus, plums, strawberries, Rainer cherries, and several apple varieties. I forgot to take a picture of the strawberries, which were the best I've tasted in ages. The last time I saw produce this outstanding was at one of my favorite businesses in Washington state. That business gets a lot of their fruits and vegetables from Charlie's Produce, as does Fred Meyer's. As it turns out, so does Old Fashioned Fruit & Veg. If you're a produce nerd like me, that will mean something to you. The employees were friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. Open daily from 9 AM to 7 PM. Highly Recommended!!! I've been eagerly awaiting the opening of Spud Daddy ever since they fell into my instagram feed…read more I mean, what could possibly be wrong with a baked potato bar, using real Idaho potatoes, and myriad of toppings? Absolutely nothing. The restaurant is located in downtown Boise. The only problem is the limited parking in this immediate area. But fighting for parking is worth it. We patiently waited in line while most people in line were chatting about what brought them here or that it was their first visit. I think we all waited in eager anticipation. Once I got to the front of the line, I was enthusiastically greeted with how I wanted to start my potato...with butter, salt, pepper and/or cheese. The server used their talent to carve open this gigantic, perfectly cooked baked potato...then slather with butter. I was hooked the moment I saw that. Then everything became a blur...there was no stopping me. Toppings? Yes. Almost every one. Nothing mattered at that point. Parmesan sauce? Yes. Just pile it on. I added tomatoes, green onions, bacon, cheese, butter, and potato chips on top...but those are the only toppings I actually remember adding. My potato was a picture of glory. Then we sat down and I was able to eat it. Perfection. Every bite. I couldn't finish that entire potato perfection, but I loved every bite of it. The soda station was clean and had plenty of great soda options. The spud store is filled with adorable, functional and noteworthy items that are hard not to buy. One of the only inconvenient things is that the line of people waiting for service blocks people from going to/from the soda and store and anyone that wants to come in. Most people are polite and will make room for you to pass, albeit cumbersome. I loved my visit and can't wait to go again. This concept is well overdo and incredibly appreciated.

I don't think I've ever had strawberries without ANY flavor. These had less flavor than water and I ended up throwing the entire bunch out. I was there yesterday and saw new flats, that seemed to be from a different grower, although still from Mexico, I attempted to ask the older gentleman if he knew if these were any better. All I got was a surly response about how he didn't even like strawberries and how would he know? I then asked about when California berries might be available. A mumbled response of "not now" was all I got. I guess business is so great that you can treat long-time customers like crap. Nice.

Newly re-opened this week (on 6/8/26) and now with Symms Fruit Farm, a 100+ year old grower of…read morecherries, several kinds of stonefruit, pears and sometimes quince that is still family operated, as owner operators of this partly Farmers Market partly grocery market store in an old barn like building in Boise. Looking at this Yelp page I was surprised to see reviews, some not flattering, dating back to the 2010 - 2012 era for the same business name at this location but that one closed, years ago it seems, and this is now new ownership and focus but the same business name. Recalibrating. As it were. My first visit in had me eager to go back again as new place wobbles get worked out and the growing season allows them to bring in more local produce. They have what is available in that now and for the other produce they stock it is all organic so works for me! WE'RE GLAD YOU'RE HERE SERVICE: I'll mention product below, but what stood out for my husband and me on this visit was what nice people work here, how helpful everyone is and how much one feels a good spirit of welcome and care in the space. Delightful. PRODUCTS: Produce, flours and grains from local mill, local honeys (the one we chose from Panoptic Apiary in Middleton is excellent), local poultry and beef in a freezer case, dairy (including raw milk if that's your thing) in a dedicated refrigerator case and another with things like a variety of really good salsas, house made guacamole, jarred sauerkraut and...the list goes on. They had Symms cherries, the first of the season's crop, in the store and they are excellent. I picked up some other produce to round out what I needed at home, most of it not local farm grown at this point in the year but all of it fresh and organic. I'm hopeful they'll be able to expand to bring in some farmers, like those who are at the Boise Farmer's Market, to round out their local produce offerings. Gaston's Bakery bread was on a rack and I learned the baker delivers to them daily. They were giving away flowers from a local grower and said they would have more coming in to sell in the store. The flower farm name was Sunny Stems (Caldwell ID) and on the card that came with the flowers, I loved that the owner, Ineke Severa, identifed herself as "grower & dreamer". HEALTHY AND SWEET TREAT SURPRISE!: There is a 'Smoothie' sign above the check out counter and given I have never learned to appreciate those, I didn't study it but then just as I was leaving I saw the sign alongside for a frozen banana whip sweetened with dates. I am a sucker for dates so I ordered one with optional fresh strawberry topping. It was dee-licious and even in the smallest size (only $4 for 9 oz), it was shareable by two. I would go back just for one of these again. PARKING: Ample amount in private lot. ACCESSIBILITY: There is an spot marked with wheelchair emblem paint in the lot near the door but it is not compliant with state building code or ADA because the striped access aisle is on the wrong side of the vehicle. I pause here for a little venting, I don't know who owns the lot but for Pete's sake, there have been crystal clear guidelines in both the ADA law and code for what will be 36 years next month and how this is gotten wrong is beyond understanding. It makes a big difference to people who use wheelchairs and it is embedded in law and code for a reason. That the city of Boise allows these things to go uncorrected is maddening because it is their job to enforce the Access Building Code, including in parking lots. End of vent. Other than that the inside is fully accessible for floor space and check out counter height. LOO: There is one so you can plan accordingly if you want to order a pot of their French Press coffee that was listed on a board. The multifloral honey is also great for local allergies, which is a huge bonus around here. If you have kiddos, this place is extra fun because they sometimes have a live hive in the store where you can watch the bees and try to spot the queen. My daughter loved this. I would definitely call ahead first though because the hive setup changes and sometimes hives have to be moved or replaced due to disease or seasonal issues. We also buy their honey sticks in bulk -- literally 100 at a time. They are the perfect car snack, hiking backpack snack, or little treat to keep on hand. Our whole family goes through them constantly. They're at local farmers markets too, but honestly I love driving out to the ranch itself. There's something peaceful about the whole setting -- seeing the open land, horses wandering around looking like they're walking through the clouds, and getting to pet their sweet dog while picking up honey. It just feels very Idaho in the best way.

In 2 hours we learned about where Steele rents its hives; how to open and inspect a hive; and how to recognize the queen bee from the drones and worker bees. We were even challenged to find the queen in two hives. We got to sample a small bit of honey directly from the frame, and it was delicious. Our guide Goose was amazing - very interactive with the youngsters, helpful and patient. We highly recommend this fun experience to anyone interested in learning more about bees, what an apiary does, or just more about Idaho agriculture. Oh, the honey is delicious and you can purchase some to take home at the end of your activity.

He offers boiled peanuts in three flavors: Plain, Dill Pickle and Cajun. For $10, you get a 32 ounce cup that is heaping with peanuts boiled peanuts. I tried the Dill Pickle and Cajun. Both were good but we preferred and bought the Cajun. Cash only. Fun Fact: Boiled peanuts have nearly 4 times the amount of antioxidants found in other kinds of peanuts.
