I struggle when a dish has too many spicy ingredients and specially kimchi is just too much for me to be able to handle. I requested the kimchi on the side so I could try the dish as it was meant to be tasted but without the commitment of having all that spice in my bowl. They did provide kimchi on the side but what I did not realize was that there was kimchi covering the rice under the other layers. The heat was just too much for me and I was unable to eat the majority of the dish. That being said, what I could eat was delicious. Grains cooked to perfection and tossed in the bbq sauce. Broccoli that was crunchy and had the slightest kick. And tender and juicy pulled pork. If you like the heat, this is a good one. And if you are like me and a bit more sensitive, keep a close eye on the dish as they make it. The place is your run of the mill chain restaurant, nothing fancy and very casual. Service is at the counter much like a chipotle or subway. The restaurant was generally clean with a few dirty tables. The highlight for me was the lemonade/drink bar. I found that you never really know what you are going to get…read more The food quality is consistent and I would say tends to be in a tier above diner food, and the price point is on the cheaper side as well, but service or the experience as a whole is what seems to be hit or miss depending on the group, and the staff working there that day. For this specific visit we had a large party. I called ahead to ensure that they would have the tables reserved and pulled together for our group. Upon arrival, they had separated the group into different tables even tho there was plenty of room to add on 2 more tables, or create an L shape to keep everyone together. It ended up with a full table and 4 people sitting awkwardly at their own table. Not impressed when we ensured we had a reservation to accommodate the group. For my meal I went with the Cobb Salad. Romaine lettuce, diced chicken, red onions, diced tomatoes, avocado, bleu cheese crumbles, and a hard-boiled egg. The menu stated all salads come with house croutons, but there were no croutons on the salad. I didn't want the croutons, so for me this was fine, but it was either an oversight when my salad was made or a false statement on the menu. The avocado was so under ripened it was chewy, however the salad portions were large and I had enough leftover for a side salad with my dinner. The lettuce was fresh, everything was chopped proportionately so each bite you had all the flavors together. It was a good salad overall. Most of the others in the group had similar comments about their food. Something off a bit but as a whole their meal was good. Chris' Family Restaurant is currently rated at a 4.7 on my Beli. I think their food is worth a drop in, especially for lunch, however they could just use more stability and structure on the hospitality end.
