Buckeye Tavern absolutely delivered! Even though the place was packed and there was a bit of a wait, it was 100% worth it. The energy was great, and once we were seated the service was truly incredible. Friendly, attentive, and on point the entire time. The food was excellent. We ordered two cheesesteaks and two burgers, and every single dish came out hot, flavorful, and perfectly cooked. You can tell they take pride in what they serve. It was Martini Monday, which made the experience even better. Great drinks, great atmosphere, and great value. Despite how busy it was, nothing felt rushed and the staff handled the crowd like pros. Bf and I got burgers they weren't bad but they didn't have much flavor, I had one spot that tasted seasoned. I got the New Tripoli burger he got the breakfast burger. Service was average, waitress checked on us once but they were slow when we were done had to wait awhile. Place was busy for a Sunday def not a quiet place. I got the "screaming Susan" burger and an extra side of the screaming Susan wing sauce for my fries. I expected this to have some spice. It was more like ranch...very boring. It's high end bar food, usually pretty good. Known for the wings but they precook them then reheat , you rarely get a nice hot chicken wing. It's more of a perfect looking wing that's cool in the middle. Burgers are good, black diamond steak is a good sandwich but I like to leave the bbq sauce off. Had a nice time tonight. Dan our server was great. On point with his whole game and I truly appreciate a waiter who knows just when to stop by and check and when not too. The cracked corn did was meh, maybe I expected something different but it was so Smokey and baconish, the corn was lost with its flavor. Michelle's burger tasted good but was really dry. I had fish and chips. Definitely a beer batter which was pronounced and flavor forward. The fish was nice and moist so that I enjoyed. We are bar people. Although this bar can be a little crowded, we like it here. Chairs are a little crunched, but once you get used to the closeness, it's enjoyable. I really like their weekly martini special and the food is good. Everything I have eaten there has been very good. It is apparent that there are many regulars that fill up the bar late afternoon. If you want to get a good seat, get there early or get there late. It is, in my experience, hit or miss for seats at the bar. Luck of the draw. BTW, ambience is nice. The remodel of the dining room (one floor rather than two ) after the fire (several years ago) is much more open and airy. read more

The food was fantastic, but for me atmosphere stole the show! We found this gem while staying at the nearby Bear Creek Mountain Resort for a romantic weekend getaway, and so very pleased with our experience. I'll cut to the chase, ordered filet mignon medium rare w/ compound butter. Received raw meat with a cup of cold compound butter that I got to pay $30.99 for. The filet was not seasoned and of course the butter would not melt over a cold steak--I've never seen anything so pitiful. Our server gave us a lot of apologies which really didn't satisfy so I asked to speak w/ the manager. Abby, the manager, didn't realize I witnessed the entire exchange between her and our server so I already knew she didn't give a care about how poorly my steak came out. Sure enough, when she came to our table she offered lip service w/ attitude and never offered any kind of resolution except taking the steak back to the kitchen even though we had already paid the check and food was boxed to go home. So I paid $30.99 to take home a steak that I will have to cook properly. Yep, I feel majorly ripped off! The only reason I gave 2 stars is because the appetizers were good and our server, Becky, was wonderful. Please note in the picture w/ steak that is not mashed potatoes, it is the compound butter. I did not know the compound butter was a side condiment instead of being used to season the steak while cooking. We both had margarita with our meals, I had coconut, brother had strawberry. We forgot to ask if they use tequila in margaritas. Chili was very good; chili contains beans and has good kick to it. Salmon and steamed Broccoli were also very good. Had steak fries with meal and pineapple upside down cake for dessert. Tried Naughty Elf drink during holidays. Mushroom Stuffed with Seafood was good. We also tried Jalapeno Corn Fritters and Battered Cauliflower appetizers. French Onion Soup was served steaming hot. Crab Corn Chowder was so good we used to get it every time we came here to eat. Now Buckeye only makes crab corn chowder on certain days, like Friday. Salad with romaine Lettuce, shrimp and oil & vinegar was good. Black Diamond Steak Salad was good with parmesan cheese. Tried flame-grilled burger & fries. Black Diamond Steak Sandwich with steak, mushrooms, onions, swiss cheese and BBQ sauce on the side was so large couldn't finish it. And that was without the roll. Tried Black Diamond Steak Pasta with marinara sauce. Chicken & steak fajitas were good. Salmon with whiskey glaze was very good. It came with Yukon Gold mashed potatoes, which were pretty good. Steamed broccoli was good. Braised Beef Short Ribs with cauliflower and sweet potato fries was pretty good. Caprese Chicken without cheese was good. Bing Cherry Cognac Pie was amazing, made with bing cherries marinated in cognac on flaky pie crust. We are disappointed Buckeye no longer serves this pie. read more

I love the Buckeye Tavern. I have given it less stars in the past but for the LV, it is a gem. Bender put in the work & that's what the hospitality business needs - a dedicated owner that truly cares about his clientele. I sit down & immediately am greeted by patrons that I've known for over 20 years & have been coming to the Buckeye for years, themselves. Now me, I've lived all over the place - Miami, Philly, & other major metropolitan areas. Walking in here made me feel at home since I've been coming here for over 20 years. Thank you to all the staff, from the hostess to the busboy. The bartender (not sure the name) is at the top of her game. Service is poor, just as bad as his other location in Alburtis. Food is the same. Frozen, bought in, upscale fast food. Not sure if the soup is homemade but it is dreadful just like everything else, embarrassment to French onion soup. Place should have stayed closed. Maybe Terry should hire people that actually know how to run a restaurant(which he himself can't do well) and a chef that can do something other than buy in food from Sysco. 1 star because it has to be, I'd give it less if I could. read more

Saturday night out with friends at the Buckeye Tavern for dinner was great! First time trying this restaurant and found out that they don't take reservations : ( however, they quoted a wait time of 25 minutes & we were called for our table exactly 25 minutes after we arrived. We got a drink while we waited & chatted with our friends, so the wait went fast. The food was fabulous! I read a review raving about the short ribs & had to try it. It did not disappoint. The meat was so tender & the braising sauce/gravy was delicious. Creamy mashed potatoes & fresh asparagus made it superb. Everyone else at our table was pleased with their meals. The waitress was attentive & pleasant. The building & decor inside was what I might call modern rustic. Very nice atmosphere. We'll definitely try the Buckeye again! read more

Our waitress was excellent bringing us refills of our drinks. It's beautiful inside with all the stone work and beams. Haven't been into this place is decades. Was in PA to visit my parents and for some reason it just popped into my head. We had lunch there on Sunday. Experience was great all around. Hostess was just odd. Asked " how can I help you?" When we walked in...like she was surprised we wanted a table. She ended up as our server and continued being odd. I have been driving by the Buckeye Tavern for what seams like forever and finally decided to give this place a try. After trying this place I am reminded of the quote from Charles Dickens "it was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of light, it was the season of darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair." The Buckeye Tavern is both some the best food and worst food I have had in a while, the service was also really good and really bad. It was all over the place. Starting with the service, our server was great. He was one of the best servers I had in months, polite, friendly, knowledgeable and prompt. The hostess on the other had could be the the worst hostess I have sever seen, she just looked angry, tried talking to me while her head in the hostess stand, then while we were eating she was stomping around the dining room like the T Rex from the first Jurassic Park movie. The food was also hit or miss. The Mac attack was a great sandwich, one of the best my wife has had in a long time. My burger on the other hand was pretty forgettable, the bread was stale like it had been toasted hours before and left to dry out and my fries tasted like they scraped the bottom of the fry bin, they were cold and overly salted. The worst was the pretzel rods, for some reason they came served on a bed of lettuce so they turned out supper mushy form all the moisture, the cheese sauce was also an odd choice, beer cheese or even gas station nacho cheese would been a better choice than what ever it was served with. The decor is the only thing that I had no problems with, it had a nice rustic feel and they did a good job decorating for the season. Overall the like from Dirty Harry applies here "you've gotta ask yourself one question: "Do I feel lucky?" Well, do ya, punk?" If you come here you could get lucky and get great food and a great time, or you could have some of the worst food and get death stares from the staff, it all depends on how lucky you get. read more

Last week I tried the Buckeye tavern in Macungie for the first time. I ordered a sandwich to go. I picked it up at the bar and found they added a take-out fee of $2. It didn't make me smile but I figured I would not add a tip at that point. I left the tip section blank and put the total in the total column ($21.06). Low and behold my Credit card company a few days later lets me know my bill had been adjusted with a $20 tip added to the $21 bill. I called up Buckeye and talked to the manager who tried to convince me it had to be a mistake although she said it has happened before more than once...... My contention is someone found a convenient way to make an extra $20 on a customer who had already left the premises. Needless to say always cross out the empty tip section (especially at the Buckeye) where according to the manager, these mistakes DO happen. Apparently, the $2 takeout fee is for the added work of inserting their own generous tips. I would report them to the BBB but they aren't members. (wonder why?)
