    Chicken Tortilla Soup
    Alex P.

I've been to this CFA for almost 10 years and what I consistently love about this place is the friendliness of the customer service. I've been to CFA's nearby and some of the poor/rude service I've experienced has been a turn off but not this place! Most recently, I just went to try something out of the ordinary and got the tortilla chicken soup. Perfect for a cold winter evening and delicious. As for the chicken sandwiches and waffle fries that I've had for so many years, they have always met my expectations.

    Came here for lunch and the restaurant was busy, but we were able to find a seat. Spicy chicken sandwich was good, but it was lacking more ingredients, like veggies or sauce. Why aren't lettuce and tomatoes even an option? The chicken was good, though. It wasn't very spicy, but had a tiny baby kick to it. The waffle fries were good. Staff here was friendly. ....| \ _ , , , - - , , _ , .../ , ` . - ' ` ' . _ \ - ; ; ; , _ ..| , a - ) ) _ . ; . ( ` - ` - ' - ' ' - - - ' ' ( _ / . _ ) - ' ( _ \ _ ) 2018

The service is always great here. Never a long wait or issues. It's right in front of an LA Fitness and tons of other options are next door if you want something else. The staff is friendly and can help with just about anything. It's my weekly stop once a week. My only issue is never enough fries that lip on the box makes sure you loose a few.

Not without strain ofcourse, I was just a little distracted with other pursuits and unwilling to make the drive to Humble. My first visit to the Spring location, I'm excited to announce that Chick Houz and I have reunited, and the meal was delicious. We ordered the family meal (the chicken special), both desserts :), and ofcourse a chicha morada. The whole chicken plus three sides was enough to feed four (and likely another), and while we were expecting maximum flavor from the chicken, the yucca fries were a beautiful, crispy, soft, comforting surprise. If I could, I'd eat them daily. That being said, I'd honestly reorder everything. If you've yet to give them a visit, know that they're worth droppin

The restaurant itself is cozy and inviting, with plenty of seating. The menu offers a solid variety without being overwhelming. Our food came out quickly, hot, and smelled amazing right from the start. I ordered the Lomo Saltado--tender beef sautéed with red onions and Roma tomatoes, served with white rice and crispy French fries, topped with a touch of cilantro. It was very flavorful and satisfying. I also had a cup of chicha, the traditional drink made from purple Peruvian corn, and it was nicely done. We also tried the Brasa Burrito, which was packed with pulled rotisserie chicken, queso fresco, green onions, cilantro aioli, and a bit of fried rice (chaufa-style), along with black beans, Mexican crema, crispy onions, romaine lettuce, and Roma tomatoes on the side, plus your choice of sauce. A unique and tasty combination. The rotisserie chicken itself was excellent--juicy and well-seasoned. We had a half chicken (all white meat) served with rice chaufa and French fries, which made for a hearty and delicious meal. Our server was attentive throughout, checking in on us and making sure we had everything we needed. Overall, I was pleasantly surprised. While it wasn't as authentic as what I'm used to, it was still a very enjoyable meal--especially for Texas.

Nice cozy place, perfect setting for fried chicken. I am sure they had other stuff, but that was the mission for this visit. Started with fried pickle spears, probably the best I have ever had, no joke. Perfect coating, taste and preparation. I like the spears vs the chips. Had the special which was to legs and two thighs for the price of the 3 pc dark. Beans and slaw. Ok, the chicken was great, moist, seasoned, very well cooked. I will go out of my way to go here for the chicken. Beans, canned with a little flavor added, nothing to brag about the slaw was pretty good. The fries on my friend's plate looked great. Perfect. We got here at about 1145, the place was busy. By 1215, it was packed, but they move people through and do a booming take out. Try it, you will like it. It satisfied my fried chicken desire and. Am set for a bit, but still want to go get more!!

I enjoyed their fried chicken, which for around $12, came with a thigh and leg, along with ample amounts of coleslaw and fried okra. Even I, as a voracious eater, could not finish all the sides. The chicken itself was beautifully fried in peanut oil, and truly one of the best, juiciest, fried chicken pieces I have ever had. This place is an example of simplicity at its finest. If you are in Houston and craving some down to earth fried chicken, Gus's is the place to go!

Additionally, the service representatives in the drive-thru are consistently pleasant, which I truly appreciate. Regarding the food, it is always freshly prepared, well-seasoned, and perfectly crispy. I particularly enjoyed the option to substitute fries for onion rings or corn nuggets, though I did note the $5.00 upcharge for these substitutions. I also noticed a white powder found on all the items that has a unique, tasty flavor--almost like a salt and sugar mix--though I wasn't quite sure what it was. The only negative I've found is that the food does not seem to reheat well, even when using an air fryer. However, when eaten fresh, it is delicious. Thank you for the consistently good service and quality.

But their attention to detail and chaotic scene behind the counter caused delays and mess ups on my order two times and they still messed up the when I got it. My wife and I ordered the tilapia and tenders as well as the snapper and wings. These dishes were amazing, first star gets knocked here. When I ordered I asked for the snapper and wings and he rung up snapper and shrimp. No worries I'll tell him to change it, told him and he said no problem. Messed up the order three times and had to remind them every time that it was the wings. My oldest got the chicken sandwich which looked amazing. Here's the second star, I asked them what came on the sandwich which was sauce and lettuce. My daughter is a plain Jane type lady so I asked for no sauce. What do we see when she opens the container? It's absolutely smothered in sauce and lettuce. I had to end up going to the store and buying buns to put tenders on the new bun.

I love to see pie on the menu alongside shakes, and while Mac and cheese and fries are welcome, orange chicken, Korean spices, broccoli salad, collards and heavenly eggs are a welcome change of pace. Our first trip (dine in) was about a 4-5 star experience. I waiter was not the most attentive and the food took quite awhile but the experience was positive enough for me to return. This time I called in an order for tallarines saltados and two whole chickens for my family. They told me it would be ready in an hour, which was fine. When I arrived to pick it up, the owner handed me the food and casually said he replaced my tallarines with lomo saltado -- without asking me first. He said it was "a better choice" and that they were out of tallarines. I told him clearly that I did not want lomo saltado, but he kept insisting, so I just took it to avoid arguing. When we got home, the real problem started -- both chickens were undercooked, tough, and hard to chew. It was so bad that I told my kids and family not to eat any of it, and I ended up throwing everything in the trash. I paid good money for this meal, and we didn't get to eat at all. Changing an order without consent and serving raw chicken is not acceptable. I won't be coming back.

My order: 5 piece spicy with Laynes sauce and ranch it ran about $14 for the meal. Chicken- very fresh they were definitely made to order for us. Very crunchy and juicy. Seasoning/Spice level- wasn't too spicy. More on the mild heat. I'm very sensitive to salty food these were highly salty. That was my only critique bc other than that they were delicious. They are also real tenders unlike canes which seem to be strips of chicken breast. Laynes sauce was decent. I tasted the black pepper. Paprika and definitely celery salt in there. Those note were very up front. The ranch was just ranch lol. The meal came with fries and some Texas toast. They also have shakes that's looked good but didn't try one this time. Now the story: Ok wow this place was an eye opener and had me highly curious my friend said u got to try Layne's chicken I'm like I had canes before. He said no Laynes. I'm like I never heard of that before. So we went since it sparked my interest we went and on the ride there I was wondering what came first? A new "chicken or the egg?" Thing. Lol. So I looked it up on AI and sure enough Laynes was in 94 and originated in college station TX. And canes. In 96 in NOLA. As we pull up to this location on 132 E Airtex Dr. you would never believe what was right next to this place. Yessss A Mother flipping Canes lol. I'm like are we on a batttle ground right now. lol. They literally have the same menu. And are neighbors. So now it was even more of a question which one is better? So it you are trying to decide: LAYNES - actual chicken tenters. Crunchy. Juicy. Way more flavor. Even though highly salty. Maybe it was just the spicy ones. I don't try the regular tenders. The do offer shakes here as well looked good but didn't try them. Always a plus for some shakes. Laynes is definitely a place to go to. Canes, Who's ur daddy? The answer to that is Laynes lol

The chicken fingers were a lot larger and I think hand battered, but definitely made to order. With that said all chicken finger/tender places (Cane's and Zaxby's) all went to way smaller size fingers/tenders around Covid time. That is my only complaint is the size of the fingers/tenders. Not sure if Layne's still hand batters or if they now use pre battered frozen product. Couldn't tell by looks. Size went down and price went up lol...3 piece spicy is what I ordered and $9.49 Hot and tasted great, good spice and I got the jalapeño ranch sauce..nice kick and sauce was great. Place is brand new and looks fresh and modern and clean. I will return but on a day that I am really hungry I'll have to order the 4 piece but at $11.40 it's pretty high.
