Best lil chicken place in the heights! All the chicken had a lil kick to it which makes it da bomb!!! Fried pickles come in spears and they are perfect with ranch but be careful and let them cool otherwise you might burn your mouth. Everything is made fresh here, the greens are perfect and the Mac n cheese is super nice. Definitely had the coolest vibes and table service or order at the counter to take it to go. Only a 4 minute easy drive after a nice afternoon at the Downtown Aquarium. Can't wait to come back next time I'm down in the area.

I've been to Gus's plenty of times now without reviewing it somehow, time to fix that. TL;DR the chicken absolutely mogs most fried chicken places by a wide margain, everything else on the menus exists. The chicken is battered and fried to an almost glasslike crispy exterior, it's extremely moist on the inside (especially with the dark eat options) and the seasoning is terrific. There's a bunch of the classic garlicky goodness and the heat level is spot on, you feel it, but you're never overwhelmed by it. I won't harp on the sides, nothing really stands out good or bad so just pick the things you like. Or just do what we normally do and eat a ridiculously large amount of fried chicken.

My first time trying Gus's fried chicken and it was pretty good. We tried the Half Chicken with Fries and Mac n Cheese as the sides, and our friends got multiple portions of the 3 White Piece Chicken. All of them were really good! The chicken skin was so crispy while being very flavorful, the meat inside was juicy and tender. The fries were crispy and well seasoned. The mac n cheese was really cheesy too, I wish it was more hot though. Everyone loved their food and the customer service was good. They were attentive and food didn't take that long to come out. I would definitely recommend!

Went to Gus's World Famous Fried Chicken in the Heights and overall had a solid experience. Parking was easy to find, but the lot is pretty small and tight so getting in and out takes a little patience. The chicken was definitely the star of the show. Super juicy on the inside, perfectly crispy on the outside, and seasoned just right. Exactly what you want when you're craving fried chicken. The service was pretty fast and they were really good at refilling my drink. For lunch, it was packed inside! The sides were just okay. The mac and cheese and the greens weren't bad, but they didn't stand out or live up to how good the chicken was. Overall, I'd definitely come back for the chicken alone.

I honestly place this restaurant as one of the best chicken places I've been to and chicken is my favorite thing to eat. We stopped in after we had been at a convention all day so we were absolutely STARVING. The service was very swift and kind. The Mac and cheese was to DIE FOR! And the chicken was immaculate. I love the overall vibe of the place as well, very comfy and cozy mom and pop type vibe that I always love. Gus's is 10000% on my list to eat at the next time I am in Texas. And it should be on yours too!

We were a table of 8 and were seated immediately. The staff was hospitable. We had our 50/50 sweet/unsweet tea that was still pretty sweet. I cannot imagine the straight sweet tea. Unlimited tea! I got the 3 piece tender with greens, mac&cheese and side of ranch to drown out the spiciness. I am weak sauce when it comes to spice level. But I powered through it because the flavor was good. It was a coworker's birthday and apparently they gave her a free chess pie slice. Super nice of them to do that! The place was busy but we got our food in a decent amount of time especially with our large table.

Came here with my bestie for our monthly try a new place day! We got the 3 tenders I got beans and slaw , the chicken was good but I was expecting more, I feel like if I would've got bone in I would've got the experience everyone else has with this place but it was not bad! I just think it was hyped up more and I should've got like breast and legs or something

Corn nuggets are fresh and so good! Their chicken is to die for! Juicy, delicious and their sides...Oh boy the Mac & cheese is amazing! Their potato salad is out of this world! Very quaint place but their service is fast, prompt and on point! If you haven't visited yet you most definitely should!

When I get to a location, I often look for comfort food and fried chicken is among them. I found "Gus's world famous fried chicken " and was comforted by everything. They have an on property parking(not a ton but enough so you're not driving the neighborhood hoping to find parking). They are in an area with houses as opposed to a plaza or strip mall. The restaurant atmosphere is great, lots of wall art, small and big group tables (full of guest enjoying their food). My server was friendly, happy and had a helpful demeanor. I took her advice on the dessert and wasn't disappointed. I ordered: Fried Okra- crunch bites of goodness ! Diet soda- normally I don't mention this but they provide soda in their own souvenir cups, which of course I took with me. 3 piece dark meat meal- with slaw and Mac and cheese. The Mac and cheese has a sprinkling of spice which was unexpected but awesome. The dark meat also had that hint of spiciness in every crunchy, juicy bite. Chocolate chess pie-which I've never heard of let alone had...was a bite of chocolate goodness! (Not too sweet or too bitter). One can understand why Gus's is world famous...everything they do is awesome! They are certainly a place to eat when in Houston! I believe as far west as their restaurants go.

July 10, 2025 Came in from Galveston to try this infamous fried chicken originally from TN I got the 3 pc tender plate with baked beans, slaw and Mac & cheese with sweet tea The chicken fingers were large, extra crunchy and juicy. They were seasoned good, a tad spicy even. Served with fresh crunchy coleslaw, sweet baked beans and thick creamy mac & cheese. Everything was delicious. I got a piece of homemade coconut pie to go. The pie is really sweet but it didn't taste "homemade." The sweet tea is like how your Mamaw makes! Our waiter, Xavier was the nicest waiter you'd ever meet. He even gave my friend a free piece of coconut pie before we left just cuz!

Now I do love fried chicken even though I try not to eat it that often. Today I went back to Gus' Fried Chicken after about a year. Not because I didn't like their cooking but because I enjoyed it too much. Well today I decided to treat myself and I was not disappointed at all. I enjoyed my entire meal and I was reminded why I preferred them over most chicken places now. The staff were very friendly and checked on us frequently. If you are downtown please stop and get you some. You will not regret taking your time. I stuck to the favorites for sides Mac n cheese and fried okra. I was ready for a nap afterwards.

I've been to Gus's in Austin and in Ft. Worth so I already knew what to expect. The Houston location is just as good as the others, one of the best places for fried chicken for sure! We sat at the bar and our orders were promptly taken. The 3 piece dark with beans and sub fries is what I got. The chicken is deep fried on the spot so you know it will come out piping hot and crisp! Just one bite in you will get all the flavors and the kick of the spice. No hot sauce needed! The fries are great and the beans tasted great. The price is decent (for 2025 standards) and for the amount of food you get and left me full. I can't complain. Wish they would open up more locations around HTX - many like Memorial area or around the outer NW or West suburbs.

Love the chicken. Hate the sides. It's a great place to get the main entree but schedule other sides.

Is the place still under renovation?

Nope! None that I saw on my last visit!

Are they open for dine in right now?

Today is our first day opening the dinning room! We would love to serve you.

Is It actually spicy? I would like to come here this weekend but my boyfriend isn't a fan of anything spicy! 1-10?

I'd consider it medium spicy. It's definitely got a kick, so if he doesn't like spicy AT ALL, this may not be a good idea.

Will you ever Add WAFFLES to your menu?

Hi Jo and thank you for inquiring. I doubt we will ever add as a daily item, but we do run chicken and waffles as a special on occasion, and at some stores as a brunch…

    How busy is it?

I've gone on Sunday's and saturdays , it's busy but I've never had to wait more than 5-10 mins for a table

Is this chain global or just world famous in the US?

    US Chain from Memphis, Tennessee

    Is it halal?

Although the chicken is delicious and spicy hot, I'm not sure if the chicken is halal because I don't know what kind of oil and spices are used. Call the manager to find out.

Instead, it is about the way we were treated by the hospitality manager, Kryssalyn Bayne. Our party consisted of five people, including a 97-year-old senior citizen. When we arrived, four of the five members of our party were present, and there were no guests waiting to be seated. However, Ms. Bayne was focused solely on the fact that one member of our party had not yet arrived. She informed us that other guests had been seated because they had called ahead, although this option had never been communicated to us during any of our previous visits. What was most concerning was not the seating policy itself, but the manner in which we were treated. Ms. Bayne's demeanor was loud, confrontational, and, in our opinion, disrespectful. We had all just come from church and were simply trying to understand the restaurant's policy. When I politely suggested that she lower her voice, she responded by accusing me of speaking disrespectfully to her staff, despite the fact that I had not spoken to anyone other than her. Grace's has always been known for its hospitality, which made this experience especially disappointing. I believe the front-of-house staff, and particularly those in leadership positions, would benefit from additional training in customer service, de-escalation, and professional communication. Every guest deserves to be treated with courtesy and respect, regardless of the circumstances. Unfortunately, this interaction overshadowed what should have been a pleasant meal and family gathering. We were seated at Table 14 & served by Mr Lewis who was a breath of fresh air. The food was good despite the entry.

Just grab a ticket at the hostess desk on your way back to the garage. When u go down to the first floor. U will go out the door and Eunice is next door on the left side. . I will say the portions are very small but the flavor is excellent. We had gumbo, biscuit and burrata and duck poppers. The duck poppers were the size of ur finger ( if ur a small woman and there were 5 of them). The etoufee was very good. But for $43 it's pretty pricey. U do get shrimp cooked 2 ways. And the flavors were so good. I have no complaints about any foods at Eunice. In fact, I will be back for some of this delish food!! Yall need to try it.

We began with the cast iron cornbread, Cajun poppers, and chargrilled oysters, and every appetizer was packed with flavor. The cornbread was warm and delicious, the Cajun poppers were a standout, and the chargrilled oysters were cooked perfectly. For our entrees, we ordered the shrimp etouffe and the filet and frites. The etoufee was pretty good, though not my favorite. The filet was tender, perfectly cooked. Even the cocktails were delicious! Everything we tried was memorable, and the entire meal exceeded our expectations. I would absolutely return and highly recommend Eunice!

So I quite naturally ordered the max. piece catfish (3 pc.) with fries and greens, and OMG! The flavor, the crispiness! Just like I fry it! Excellent customer service! Needless to say, this is now my "catfish spot" whenever I visit the area again. For dessert, I had the peach cobbler. Another hit! So balanced with flavor and sweetness! My family had the oxtails and blackened salmon. They are licking their fingers! Why is this place not rated a perfect 5?! You better believe they get 5 stars from me! Earned! (Sorry, I ate my fish and peach cobbler before I realized I didn't take a pic. And the presentation was magnificent on all plates!)

I ordered the turkey wings which came with rice & 2sides with cornbread. I got the black eyed peas & greens with no meat in my greens. The standout for me were the black eyed peas. They were excellent. Everything else was just ok. I liked that everything wasn't overly salty. It just lacked that extra kick. The serving sizes were pretty good & I have plenty leftovers. I would be back again to try another dish because I feel for soul food this was pretty healthy because it was overly salty.
