I revisited Chick Houz recently and decided to try something different so I ordered the Pollito Sandwich with black beans for the side dish. The grilled chicken sandwich was very tall. The kind you have to mush down to get it to be manageable. It was good tasting along with the beans which I have had before. The meal with a soft drink was $20 w/tax. After paying I noticed an extra 70 cent charge on my receipt and found out they add 3.5% for credit card usage. No sign or warning. They just tack it on. I really dislike businesses charging extra for credit card use. Card usage is so commonly used and businesses should just raise their prices by the same amount to avoid penalizing us for using plastic. Cash has to be counted and handled, taken to the bank for deposit and poses a theft risk to the businesses. It saves them cost by not dealing with it. Minus 1 star. read more

We stumbled upon a small Peruvian spot near our hotel, and it turned out to be a great find--especially after a few days of Mexican and Tex-Mex. It was a nice change of pace. The restaurant itself is cozy and inviting, with plenty of seating. The menu offers a solid variety without being overwhelming. Our food came out quickly, hot, and smelled amazing right from the start. I ordered the Lomo Saltado--tender beef sautéed with red onions and Roma tomatoes, served with white rice and crispy French fries, topped with a touch of cilantro. It was very flavorful and satisfying. I also had a cup of chicha, the traditional drink made from purple Peruvian corn, and it was nicely done. We also tried the Brasa Burrito, which was packed with pulled rotisserie chicken, queso fresco, green onions, cilantro aioli, and a bit of fried rice (chaufa-style), along with black beans, Mexican crema, crispy onions, romaine lettuce, and Roma tomatoes on the side, plus your choice of sauce. A unique and tasty combination. The rotisserie chicken itself was excellent--juicy and well-seasoned. We had a half chicken (all white meat) served with rice chaufa and French fries, which made for a hearty and delicious meal. It's been awhile since Chick Houz and I have crossed paths. I guess you could say that we were going no contact. Not without strain ofcourse, I was just a little distracted with other pursuits and unwilling to make the drive to Humble. My first visit to the Spring location, I'm excited to announce that Chick Houz and I have reunited, and the meal was delicious. We ordered the family meal (the chicken special), both desserts :), and ofcourse a chicha morada. The whole chicken plus three sides was enough to feed four (and likely another), and while we were expecting maximum flavor from the chicken, the yucca fries were a beautiful, crispy, soft, comforting surprise. I got the half chicken with vegetables and plantains, which was a healthy amount for dinner. The plantains were amazing, but that's also one of my favorite dishes. The vegetables were in kind of a spicy liquid and weren't my favorite. The chicken was freshly cooked, but a little bit dry. Customer service was the biggest issue . Walked in and a long curly haired teen with a young lady was leaning against the back wall and didn't even greet us. We have had Peruvian food only once before and in another state and decided to give this place a try, not knowing what to expect. We walked in and started reading the menu at this time still not even approached. We have no idea what's what and what anything tastes like. No suggestions, no asking if we needed assistance, and I finally asked how big is the meal and if enough for two people, we asked how large the sides were... overall his response was cupping his hands and just said, depends on how hungry. No efforts to suggest anything or asking if we had tried Peruvian or if they had specials. His nails were painted and that's fine, they were chipped and dirty looking and for someone taking cash and serving the food, I'd like cleaner looking hands, when doing different jobs around. Go. No, actually - RUN to Chick Houz! The Peruvian rotisserie chicken is an absolute must! When you arrive you are unsure as to what to expect because it's very minimal and looks like simple. But don't let the looks fool you! We got the half chicken and shared between two people. It comes with a choice of two sides. We got the fries and the chaufa rice. The chaufa rice was like your average fried rice but I think it was less salty and greasy compared to most restaurants when you are dining out. It was a nice dish which wasn't eggy either even though I saw plenty of egg fried into it. Perfect rice IMHO! The chicken has such a nice crispy exterior while the inside is still moist and juicy. And I am not a fan of white meat but wow both the dark and the white meat were equally tender, delicious, and full of flavor. The yucca fries were crispy and yummy while the regular fries were crispy on the outside and not waxy on the inside which was such a huge win. They had the flavor of freshly made homemade fries. The real star of the show in my opinion after the chicken were the three different sauces. I honestly don't know what they were called but they were yellow, green, and pinkish red in color. The red one was a little too spicy for my taste and I don't really know what all was in it. The green sauce was very similar to a green cilantro chutney that you might get at an Indian restaurant. But a close second MVP in my opinion was the yellow sauce. I still don't know what was in the sauce but it had a super addicting quality where I just wanted to drink by the end of my meal. The service was quick and friendly. When we approached the counter we were greeted and all our questions about the chicken and the rice were answered. They were really sweet and even offered us a few samples of the various drinks that they offer. My family from out of town had never tried the jamaica drink and so they really enjoyed getting a sample of that. In addition to that, I also ordered the chicha morada which was just a perfect accompaniment to my meal. This was a great weeknight dinner place. I got the chicken sandwich, and my brother got the Churrasco sandwich. Both of them were so good. The toppings perfectly complemented the meat, which was well seasoned. I loved the yucca fries and plantains. Also, the hibiscus lemonade is refreshing and sweet, without leaving a sugary taste! Great chicken! I'm mainly a white meat person so I have had my fair share of overcooked, dry chicken breast. This place is not one of those. Very juicy chicken breast and the sides are awesome! Why 5 stars? Because this absolutely hit the spot. --- --- --- I have had Chick Houz bookmarked for a bit, but hadn't made it in with it being about 40 minutes from me. But I took my son to a playground nearby, with the intention of Chick Houz being *my* indoor playground after. I would have loved to try several different items on the menu, but I opted for lomo saltado, and it was basically about as good as it gets. The quality of the steak was exactly what I was hoping for. I loved every bite. My only note is that it was labeled as a "bowl" on the menu, and I think it would have been a little easier to eat from a bowl than a plate, just because things were falling off the side. But when that's your biggest complaint, you know it was good. I ordered a chicken sandwich for my son and stole a couple of bites. Honestly, I would have loved to steal a lot more. The bread had a hint of sweetness and the whole thing got me excited to go back for a second visit. I did order a tres leches for dessert that I didn't love (it was somehow *too* sweet), but you don't come here for tres leches. You come for steak, chicken and the fixins. I was invited by family and friends to come here. I do like that they make everything (except deserts) fresh! It may take a while, but the quality is irreplaceable! I ordered the Lomo Saltado bowl, hibiscus ginger lemonade, and tres leches. *This is an order and pay first kinda place* My food took some time, as expected, when my food came out my French fries were lacking, I mentioned it to my brother in a joking way, they must've heard me, because a few minutes later they brought out a bowl of French fries. They didn't have to do this, but it was a very kind gesture. By the way their French fries aren't too soft and not too hard... they were cooked perfectly for enjoying with this dish, or as stand alone fries. I inhaled my plate! Towards the end of the night, I asked for my tres leches and devoured it. It tasted like a combo of tres leches and rice pudding, it was bomb! I was definitely stuffed after this. I had a man next to me who said he's a regular and that I needed to try the chicken, that it's the best he's ever had. I had gone to this Peruvian chicken place a few times over the last while and it was great. However today I ordered the whole chicken special to go. I received the order first we were missing the dressing for the Greek salad (which we drove back to the restaurant and asked for it) then when about to eat opened up the chicken to find out it was grossly undercooked. Pink, bloody, slimy. I called the restaurant and apparently the best they would offer me and my wife is a 50% discount off next order... not even to replace our meal now. What a bloody joke!!!! Can't even believe I also was generous and tipped the guys 18% for my to go order as well. I guess now we have to find a different restaurant to eat at tonight since we're hungry and disappointed. I give Chick Houz some of the highest praise I feel I can give a local restaurant, "it has entered the rotation". Meaning that not only is the food good, but it's good enough to be added to the list of places near me that I regularly circle through to eat at without having to think long about it. I only recently had Chick Houz for the first time but I've already had it a few times since. To me this is more of a fast casual place than a full sit down restaurant. I say that to say it isn't a place I'd travel far for but would enjoy often if it's close. Thankfully for me it is close to where I live so it'll be the latter for me. I haven't eaten inside of here so this is all from a to go perspective. I've had the 1/2 chicken every time I've been and not once has it not been delicious. The chicken is seasoned well enough and juicy. I enjoy white and dark meat on chicken so I get regular with some of both. The 1/2 chicken comes with 2 small sides and that is an area that's been up and down to me. Of the sides they offer, I've tried the French fries, chaufa (which is a fried rice), sweet plantains and yucca fries. The French fries were definitely just frozen fries and weren't done in a way to stand out to me. I had never heard of chaufa but knew I liked fried rice so I ordered it. The first time I got it I didn't realize it had meat in it and spit it out, not because it wasn't good but because I didn't know what kinda meat it was. As many Asian based fried rices often use pork, I thought it might be pork as well, which I don't eat. I couldn't get ahold of the restaurant and Googled that chaufa is usually made with chicken and since it looked like chicken I ate it. Happy I did because that chaufa is solid. The sweet plantains are another skipable dish to me. They're okay but that could just be me because I would've preferred them fried with some crisp to them. The yucca fries are another win to me. I hadn't had yucca fries before but they were a solid start to me. I've tried the tequeños and I'm glad I did. This little cheese bites were a nice pop of flavor that complimented the meal. They have 3 main sauces, which are yellow (mild), green (medium spicy) and red (spicy). The sauces go well with the food and have very subtle flavoring to me. Personally the flavors between the sauces isn't distinct enough for me to really tell the differences between them. Though that's the case they are still good. From a service standpoint they are polite and helpful. The inside of the restaurant has been clean and welcoming when I've forget l gone. Eating here may very well have been my first time having Peruvian food and I'm happy to say that it has been a good experience. I wouldn't call this the most outstanding flavors but I feel they are more than just good, especially for the price and the amount of food you get. I look forward to my next bite here and trying more of their menu. read more

I'm a fan of Peruvian Chicken. On the way to the Vintage Park area, my husband and I noticed this place and decided to stop by. The name seemed very familiar to me and it occurred to me later that I had bookmarked this place in the Katy location as a place to try if I'm ever on that area so glad there's a closer location for me to finally try it. For food, my husband and I shared the 1/2 Chicken and 2 Sides. We got mixed chicken. The skin is thin and crunchy, similar to Peking duck style skin. It was also very flavorful with the seasoning on it. Inside, the meat was good (not dry). For sides, we got Cole slaw and black beans. Everything together was tasty, especially with sauce. Sauces come in mild (yellow), medium (green), and spicy (red). Any of the sauces are great. I even mixed them together and still enjoyed it. My favorite was the green sauce. This combo does not come with tortillas. When my husband asked for it, they were happy to provide for us. The only suggestion that I have for the business and this is very minor, but there could be a small and easy change to how the chicken is plated. The half chicken order we got on the big plate looked a bit sad with all the spacing around it. Suggesting to serve it in a smaller plate or even a bowl. Ambience wise, it's a decent size, casual, clean spot. It looked new. There were still balloons up. Parking out front was easy too. For a quick, tasty, and hearty meal in casual setting, this place was worth the try. Looking forward to come back again! read more

Pretty dang expensive IMHO, and also really slow, so I certainly hope it's worth what we've invested, both time and money. $60. For 3 meals, each a fountain drink, no apps, so it better be good. If it's not REALLY good, thos place won't make it because the location sucks, and again, they are too pricey. As it is we only stopped here because there was a too long line at Chuy's. The longer I look over the menu and the options along with the prices, I will be very surprised if this place makes it a year. Service is really bad too, which is going to affect this review. We have been waiting too long for our food, and tables that came in long after us have gotten their food already. I have already spoken to two different servers, and we keep getting the runaround. I even already asked for my money back and was told , sorry, your food is coming now. What a shame, I would have loved to give them a good review, but not in the cards for them. The food tasted good, but not worth the money. Service was not good. Who tells a customer "no" when they ask for their money back for a LEGITIMATE reason. Even after being told no to the requested refund because the food was coming out soon, it still took an additional 8 minutes for me to get my sandwich. Got To-Go from this place as it was one of the only places open after the hurricane. The staff were very kind and did a good job answering the questions we had about the menu. It did take a little while for the food to come out, but we had a big order and it was quite busy so that was totally understandable. The restaurant itself was very clean and there was lots of open seating while we waited for our food to be done. I had the Lomo Saltado bowl and it was delicious. The beef was cooked nicely.
