The quality of the food is consistently excellent. The service was just as impressive. Urban fries was the choice of the day This welled seasoned french fries was loaded with crispy chicken and mac & cheese. Also topped with three pickles and bird sauce. My son Kam asked for ranch on the side which is an additional $.60 that he didn't even eat it. The ranch was straight out the fridge, how cold it was, which would make it semi warm chicken even colder. The urban fries is well seasoned nice flavor and well sauced that you don't even need to add any additional sauce. -1 The french fries temperature could've been bit hotter and bit crispier for my liking and they could've added a little bit more love on the mac & cheese, but all in all it please the chicken desire for today. read more

I stopped by for lunch at this Urban Bird location and was impressed by the quality of the food and the service. I ordered the 2 tender basket which included fries and Texas toast. I got the lemon pepper and mild flavors for the tenders. Their sauce is great. The chicken was juicy and flavorful, but a little too oily for me. But it was fried chicken so I can't really complain about that. This location also had outdoor seating but it was too hot that day to enjoy the outside area. Hello, I wanted to share my experience because this was my first time visiting this establishment. First, I want to say that the food was AMAZING! I also want to recognize one of the cashiers. He was a young, tall African-American gentleman who told us that he had just started working there. He was absolutely amazing--very polite, helpful, and professional. He definitely deserves recognition for the way he treated us. Unfortunately, my experience with the manager on duty and some of the other staff was completely different, and I would honestly give that part of my experience zero points. It was my son's birthday yesterday, and we arrived around 11:00 PM. While we were waiting for our food, my son needed to use the restroom. We were told that the restrooms were closed because they close at 1:00 AM. I explained that it was only 11:00 PM, meaning there were still two hours before closing, and we were paying customers who were sitting there waiting for our food. I was also told that employees were still allowed to use the restroom, which honestly made the situation even more frustrating. I politely asked a young African-American female employee if my son could please use the restroom because he really needed to go, but she responded with a very noticeable attitude and told me, "No, he cannot use it. It's closed." I understand having policies in place, but I don't think refusing restroom access to paying customers two hours before closing is good customer service. I could understand closing the restrooms during the last hour of business, but closing them two hours early--especially while customers are still dining and spending money--seems excessive. I hope management will reconsider this policy and also address how employees communicate with customers. A simple, respectful explanation can make a huge difference, even when the answer is no. Again, the food was excellent, and I really want to give recognition to the young cashier who was so kind and professional. For a half-sized portion, you get A LOT, and it totaled to about $10 with a drink. The mac and cheese wasn't overpowering, the fries were perfectly seasoned without being too salty, and the fried chicken pieces were juicy, crispy, and just spicy enough. Ordering anything more than that would have been extreme. It did take a while for them to prepare my order, but, granted, preparing fried chicken takes some time, so it's understandable. I recently tried Urban Bird Hot Chicken and ordered the mild flavor. While the chicken was cooked well, I didn't detect any spice at all. Next time, I'd definitely go for a higher spice level to get some actual heat. The seasoning on the chicken wasn't my favorite--it had a noticeably sweet taste, almost like they added brown sugar, which I personally didn't enjoy. I prefer a more traditional hot chicken seasoning, so this wasn't really my style. The waffle fries had the same issue for me. They were covered in what seemed like brown sugar, which overpowered the potato and made them way too sweet. I usually prefer my fries to be more on the savory side, so this wasn't something I enjoyed. One thing I did like was their drink selection. They offer fountain drinks and house-made juices, including strawberry, mango, and blueberry. I mixed the strawberry with the blueberry to cut down on the tartness, and that helped balance the flavor. The staff at the location I visited were friendly. When dining here you go up to a counter and order first before self seating where you like. The restaurant had a lot of indoor and some outdoor seating available. It was clean and decorated with pictures of the food/ items on the menu. Overall, Urban Bird Hot Chicken didn't quite hit the mark for me. Came on a Sunday at around 3pm and it was freezing outside and inside the restaurant. All of the workers had on hoodies with their hoods up or hats on because it felt like there was no heater on. I would've ordered to go if I had known it would be that cold inside. And unfortunately, we had to wait 20 minutes to get our food so the cold felt even worse. If the weather is better outside this probably won't be a problem though. TENDERS SANDO: This was one of the best chicken sandwiches I've ever had! The chicken was great, but the slaw is really what elevated this sandwich for me. So i came here for lunch with my friend and copied what he usually gets. He gets the urban fries with extra Mac and ranch. It was delicious, there's a large order of half order. I got the half and only a couple pieces of chicken also got their yummy lemonade. I have returned to Urban Bird 3-4 times since my last review 3 months ago and my experiences have improved. My previous review about the food quality is still positive. Their tenders sando is a large amount of boneless chicken on a brioche bun with kale slaw and Bird sauce and together is delicious and filling. My favorite heat levels are mild and nashville hot with 4 other heat levels available. I've tried sides of regular crinkle cut fries, sweet potato waffle fries and mac n cheese and enjoyed all 3. The mac n cheese is really creamy and smooth tasting but the waffle fries are my slight favorite. They offer self serve fountain drinks and 4 different lemonade flavors. Prices for the combo meal with tax is $14 which is reasonable and my wait times have averaged between 10-15 minutes which is much better than my first experience. I still think they could do a better job with timely table bussing and floor cleanliness but overall I am happy when I eat here at this counter service restaurant. On my last visit I tried a bowl of their ice cream for $4 with add ons of caramel sauce and pecans and really enjoyed it. I like Urban Bird and will continue to return. read more

Is it all hype? Can there be almost a million chicken spots that have a good spicy chicken and they all taste, err all have there different take on how "hot" chicken can taste? I was not ready/ I did not know what to expect , I have high expectations when it comes to hot chicken spots and this place really messed me up. In my mind with it being a newcomer in the game for me, it has entered into the top 3 spots in my mind as I figure out which chicken place is best within 10 - 15 miles of Jersey Village-Vintage Park areas of Texas. I had the Nashville hot BirdBox, I mean BIRD PACK- I shared with a friend. Anyway, this was my first time having, what I believe to be an authentic, Nashville Hot seasoning I loved the sweet cool heat of the Nashville hot flavoring, it made me feel if for a moment I was in a cool southern Jazz bar with fans instead of air conditioners at night, while the patrons dance the night away. Needless to say this Nashville hot was a solid 5/5 As a side, I had the mac n cheese . I will never order the mac n cheese again, I'm not a fan of soupy mac, and this was possibly the worse mac n cheese I've ever had in my life, but yet the chicken was so good, I can overlook that. 0/5 Next were the sweet potato waffle fries and these are the best I've ever had besides making my own. Please note this review is based on my experience from around the time this location had their grand opening. The experience overall was not great. Our cashier was really breezy and charismatic - immediately developing a rapport with us. Unfortunately, there was an older man there running around frazzled and was extremely curt with me when I asked for sauce and was even rude to our cashier. Calm down, dude, it isn't even busy right now. The lemonades were almost out, but I really loved every single flavor that remained. Lids were not stocked as well. I reached into the cabinets underneath and just stocked it myself. Guess there may have been a rush before we came in, I dunno. Took a while for our food to come out. The sauce is fine. The Mac n cheese was fine. The sweet potato fries were good. This is the part I hate to report - this stuff is way too hot. I think I went for medium level spice and my tenders were inedible. The elotes is basically the same. At first, it's good. But the spice just built and built on me until I couldn't even enjoy my food any more. Which sucked, because I was hungry and all I could really eat was my fries. I will say; however, their malted waffle was sublime. Unfortunately for Urban Bird, this is something I can make at home. A nice addition to this part of town. A tasty concept with room for improvements. The location is in the Jersey Village area, at busy 1960 & Eldridge. The flow of traffic is a little confusing, especially at this intersection, which can be daunting for a driver unfamiliar to the area... Pay attention to your GPS, to help you navigate a few shortcuts though the shopping centers. This will fare you better than cutting across 1960 and saves quite a bit of time not having to u-turn on the overpasses. The restaurant is new, colorful, upbeat, and quirky. SOME of the employees were friendly & eager, but the other half or so either seemed lost & unprepared or "over it." The young lady taking our order had us standing at the register for 15min to take down two entrees... It was a struggle. The menu caters to fried chicken lovers (of course) and appeals best to hot sauce fanatics. Wanting to add a little variety to our sampling, we asked for the Chicken & Waffles dry ("Country" style) and sauce on the side. Now, none of the hot sauce/flavors they feature are available as side options, which was disappointing. Apparently, the Tennessee, Mild, Nashville, Xtra Hot, and Fire flavors advertised on the menu are only added during the actual cooking process. Not knowing any better, we ended up paying 50-cents for a tiny dipping cup of not-so-special bbq sauce. So, how did the meal fare? The chicken tenders by itself (plain, without any sauce/rub) is quite bland & boring. The chicken is fried well - golden, crispy & not greasy, but you really miss out if you don't choose your sauce ahead of time. The waffles were soggy, but they had a pleasant sweetness. They do fall apart & disintegrate quick (especially if you're dipping bites in the maple syrup), so it's definitely a knife & fork meal. The other entree we tried was the Urban Fries. Now this - - this was a winner! If you enjoy stick-to-your-gut meals that make your taste buds dance & your hips wiggle, this is the menu item that deserves the gold star. Yumm-y! Next time I'm in the area and happen to be wearing stretchy pants, I'd come back again for the Urban Fries.... I'd also be curious to try other menu items. I won't make the mistake again & will be sure to order chicken WITH sauce. Also worth mentioning is a Nutella-Smores Fries I kept eyeing on the menu. Flip to the back of the menu and gawk at it like I did... it's a good-bad decision that's calling my name. I've never really gotten into the hype of hot chicken, but now I understand. The Sando (chicken sandwich) was really good and fresh. The pickles, sauce, and kale salad in the sandwich complemented the chicken very well. I ordered the spice level of "little spicy" and it was good, but I'm going to try the next spice level next time. The fries have a nice seasoning on top and my picky daughter ate them all. Customer service on a Saturday was very good and the person taking our order was very nice. It wasn't super crowded for a Sunday lunch, but there was a nice steady traffic coming through.
