My husband and I started a new protein diet, so I asked Michael (the cashier) if they could leave off the batter and just fry the liver by itself. Zachary was right behind us cleaning the floor and said "we need to put something on it so it can fry appropriately, how about we lightly dust it with flour?". We agreed and he ran back in the kitchen to explain the instructions to the cook. We were in awe by not only the wonderful customer service, but accommodating a special request! Zachary also took the time to go around the restaurant to talk to each customer. He even spoke to an elderly man that happened to visit the restaurant yesterday and commented that he was glad to see him back. The man was surprised that he remembered him, considering all the customers that come in each day. In an age of limited customer service skills, we were so impressed by the staff. Zachary and Michael were so friendly and they made sure the customers were taken care-of. We will surely be back!! read more

6/12/21 ordered two chicken dinners, a fish dinner, and an apple pie by phone at 4:04 PM with drinks. We pulled up to no one in the drive thru lane and paid for the food at 4:13 and were asked to pull forward and wait as it was not ready. Not surprised as fresh fish takes a bit. At 4:25 we walked inside to ask what was taking so long to find only one customer inside eating and five workers standing around. Their explanation was were were waiting on two spicy tenders! Finally at 4:29 it was handed two us. The whole time we waited two more cars came through the drive through. At 4:04 we called in the order and 25 minutes later they finished cooking two spicy tenders. Pitiful service! Ridiculous! read more

Visited for the first time last week. It's quite a drive from San Antonio but after reading a bunch of forums online comparing all the chicken places I had to try it. This particular time, I ordered the spicy tender strips combo with fries, green beans, a roll and a biscuit. It's worth noting that this location is adjacent to a gas station / truck stop and on this particular day there was a 18 wheeler just sitting idle next to the drive thru which made hearing (both for the person taking orders and for me) almost impossible. No surprise the order was messed up. Maybe a tip for the restaurant, in scenarios like this repeat the order back to the customer at the window before taking payment so that there's no surprises. The chicken strips I ended up getting were the "original." As a pre-warning if you are used to seasoning, these are very bland, so you'll want a dipping sauce, etc. They left the seasoning out so I was stuck dipping them into gravy and could only stomach two of the four strips. Another trick is you can eat them with the fries, because the fries are salted it kind of creates a weird but effective contrasting taste. The fries and roll were both on point. The green beans I probably wouldn't order again. Looking forward to visit again to boost this rating up. Next time I'll try the gizzards, mashed potatoes, Mac-n-cheese and biscuit (and maybe I'll be feeling adventurous and try the fried pickles). read more

I remember I didn't get my exact order one time, so I came back and told the people working at the time about it. Only giving one star because the food was decent. The night crew needs some classes on customer service. The one in charge (I'm assuming because she was barking orders at everyone) came to the counter like she was going to get our order. She looked at us while continuing to bark orders, then walked away without a word. Several minutes later another girl asked if we'd been helped. The first time visiting Fredricksburg Chicken Express and the service was terrible. The food was cold and chicken was cold. My kids enjoy it but I was not impress at all. Chicken Express can be a hit-or-miss place sometimes, and I think they missed the mark here, but not on the food. The chicken comes with a pleasant, crispy breading that holds gravy and spices well. The gravy is the highlight of the meal, it complements almost everything on the menu (I would try to avoid adding it to the drinks) and carries enough spices to be distinctive without overpowering any of the food. The corn nuggets are quite tasty, the only wish for them is that I had had more of them. The fried pickle slices came out the hottest of anything we ordered. They start with a good amount of crispy exterior to stay with, but the breading had a tendency to slough off when you pick them up. The fries are crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside, but they are also the segue into the service portion. You see, we didn't actually order fries, we ordered the mac and cheese. When we asked about the lack of mac, we got a, "Well, you didn't pay for mac and cheese," and then our server left. Actually, we did, as the side comes with the meal; you just didn't highlight the correct option on the register. I really don't need your sass right now, we're trying to keep the one whose order you messed up from throwing a fit. We went up and purchased a (second) mac and cheese that thankfully was out almost instantaneously. We all sampled it, and did not deem it worth the extra couple of dollars. The cheese sauce was watery, did not stick to the noodles, and barely tasted of cheese at all. This would have likely been a much more favorable review if they had been willing to fix the mistake on the order, but their unwillingness to do so, furthered by the back talk, doomed it from that point on. read more

I live in Colorado and am deprived of good, restaurant prepared, catfish and chicken liver. I always have to stop by a chicken express when I am in the south to satisfy my craving for good fried food. I lucked up and found this gem on a random gas station stop. I ordered the fried chicken liver and a piece of catfish. Both were delicious and perfectly seasoned!! It may seem odd ordering fish from a gas station but do it! You will be glad you did. read more

Don't go to chicken express in comfort after 8 pm 830 to be exact They make sure they don't have any food and tell customers they are about to close. The hours say they close at 9. I understand that food should be shrunken down but to have absolutely NO sides available at all and when questioned why???? The lady behind the register , claiming to be a manager, rudely just argued and made lame excuses. if I were the owner of the restaurant I would seriously check the cameras at night at this place and cut some significant people out because apparently it's better for this "manager" to allow people to all be on break then to actually have any food available for paying customers. read more
