In Comfort, TX it can sometimes be hard to find a good place to eat around 3pm as most of the other restaurant close around 2 or 3 and reopen at 5. Not Brene's. This is a nice establishment and the owners/staff were very friendly and made a concerted effort to make sure you were taken care of. The Chicken Fried steak was good with nice breading and gravy. The steak was a tad tough in some spots but otherwise good. I really loved the mashed potato's with the skin on still. Very flavorful! The Mac n cheese was good too. They also have a nice salad bar for an additional option. This is a good spot to pop in and give a try. read more

But when the owner is doing paperwork and actively fighting with her employees/ family member and shouting mid seating area, it sets in that you will be waiting much longer that you already have been to get any kind of professional and common service. The "staff" seem confused on who they WANT to serve (even when you're the only customer) the food was not bad tasting and it was the only thing that seemed to have any ambition. Looking for a bite to eat on Christmas Eve after a round of golf at The Buckhorn, I came across this local gem still open for us to visit. As you walk into Brene's you get a warm inviting vibe to the place. The staff all welcomed us in and sat us down right away. Our waitress ran through the menu and so I order the 8-piece wing (4 buffalo / 4 lemon pepper) and my buddy orders the smash burger with onion rings. As we wait for our order, the manager comes by to talk with us and lets us know she has some fresh baked goodies for sale and long story short I end up leaving with a buttermilk pie. It was delicious. But I digress, when thing wings come out, the wings and drummies were both a good size with plenty of meat on the bone. They were fried nicely and not overly drowned in sauce. The buffalo sauce was nice and tangy, and the lemon pepper was on point. My buddy gave a thumbs up to the smash burger and onion rings. Overall, I'm glad we were able to stop in for some small-town hospitality right before Christmas. I look forward to coming back and trying more of the menu. read more

The enormous and devastating 4th of July flood in the hill country changed a lot of how people went to restaurants as part of their schedule. Immediately after the flood, lots of people came to the hill country to help the recovery. By early August, the restaurant business in the Comfort area crashed. Most of them didn't have any customers which led to shortened hours and temporary layoffs. Brene's Kitchen stayed open through the rough period. They are still trying to get people to eat at their restaurant. My own family goes there to help support this hardworking bunch of people. It is a family owned business and they are the nicest group of people. Their daughters work as servers and both parents work wherever they're needed. As for the food, yes, it's delicious. We went there on a rainy Sunday for brunch and they had almost everything you wanted for breakfast. They had scrambled and fried eggs, ham, bacon, sausage, waffles, pancakes, biscuits and gravy, hot oatmeal. They also have cold cereal with milk the topper for me was their fresh fruit. It was fresh! If that doesn't get you, you can order from their menu! Overall, their food is not Houston or San Antonio brunch quality. For Comfort, TX, it's excellent. We go there because we want to support local businesses and also because they serve good food with a smile. The best thing we had was the BANANA SPLIT . The owners were so nice and seem like great transplants to this community. We felt the support for first responders there for sure. I had the burger, it was great. The gravy that came with my daughter's chicken fingers could use some help, it was very watery. We will come back to try some more things and we are thankful for a new place to eat close to home. Our waitress was very sweet but you can tell she was new. She did a great job though! I would have given 5 stars because as a business owner, I love supporting other small business owners. However I have one complaint. Please don't scold your staff in front of customers. It's very unprofessional and makes for an uncomfortable experience for your guests. Clearly you have hired a slew of young people, which is amazing but with that you should assume extra training is going to come into play. You spoke to them like they were idiots. And while your points about how to dry plates more efficiently wasn't wrong, the approach and timing very much was. Maybe more training before opening? Do it in the back of house? Again I applaud you for giving these kids what is likely their first jobs but if you speak to them like that continuously, you won't have any staff and you'll be lucky to have customers. My husband ordered the Rhett's Smash Burger and he said it was the best burger he has eaten in a long time. I ordered my normal, chicken fingers, and they were tender, juicy and delicious!! We started with an order of cheese sticks....highly recommend!! We also ate the Banana Split for dessert and OMG I'm so happy. So big we couldn't finish it!! Definitely recommend you eat here!! Very fresh and ample selections at the salad bar, tender steak 'the size of its crispy crust', just like homemade white cream gravy, and fries out of this world! The service and food was 10/10!! They were so friendly and accommodated us even though we came in a little past hours. We brought our small children in and they were so sweet with them. We travel a bit and get to taste "the local flair" wherever we go, and your eatery was good enough that we returned repeatedly. That is unusual, as we typically only visit a location once, even if the food is good. The combination of good food, friendly service and warm atmosphere made it the "go to" eatery for us. I wanted to thank you for hosting us in a way that made us feel welcomed like a family member. It was an appreciated touch in a time when the flooding response was very stressful, hectic, and honestly somewhat depressing. Keep up the good work. Service and the food couldn't have been better. Very friendly and attentive. I had the delicious chicken salad sandwich on a delicious crescent roll and the salad bar. Which had a lot to choose from. Delicious, definitely homemade blue cheese dressing. My husband had the Smash Burger and said the meat had really great flavor. The bun was nice and soft, butter toasted which made the burger even more delicious. The two gentlemen sitting next to us, said that their Patty Melts were excellent. We will try those next time. Will definitely go back as there are just way too many very mediocre restaurants along the I10 west corridor from 1604 to Kerrville. I wish I could give this place NEGATIVE or ZERO STARS! The first two times we went to this location, the food was good. The last time we went, the owner was up near the front cash register/entrance visibly stressed and was yelling and cussing out and insulting her younger employees very loudly in front of the whole restaurant. This went on for about 30 minutes. She was also yelling insults to those cooking in the kitchen. We almost got up and left it was so bad. When I paid my check, I asked the waitress (one of the ones she was cussing out) if her boss always treated them this way, and she gave me a nervous laugh. I felt so bad for her, and apologized to her telling her that she didn't deserve to be treated this way in this toxic environment, working for someone who behaves in that manner treating employees like dirt. We will never come back to an establishment that treats their employees in this matter. I hope that the owner goes to some stress or anger management classes and gets the help she needs! read more
