This is the type of place where you know you are getting what you are expecting. No frills. And I mean NO FRILLS! We ordered the 5 piece tenders with the fries and the most buttery oily moist yeast roll ever with a side of coleslaw. And we ordered their iced tea. I have not seen a chicken express in over a decade and a half tbh and so my excitement was unnaturally in comparison to my baseline state LOL. If I had a heart rate monitor on I am sure you could see my heartbeat increasing in anticipation of the fried glory that was about to be bestowed upon us. The chicken was as greasy and delicious as I remembered it. The coleslaw tasted better because for the last several years I have been eating it at another tenders place that seem to be popping up everywhere and it was so much better in comparison. The gravy that came with it was enjoyed by my partner but I have never been a fan of their gravy so I am glad I asked for the ketchup. On their drive-thru window they write that if you are going to need anything besides the meal then you need to ask for those specific condiments. And I am glad I read that because the combo with the ketchup is what I remember my tastebuds enjoying back in undergrad. Now I feel like I can write a whole thesis on their iced tea. The iced tea is great on its own but I don't think the 21 year old me who used to have their sweet tea every Tuesday would be able to withstand the sugary tea in 2026. I got the half sweet half unsweetened tea and that was sweet itself. I really enjoyed reliving one of my favorite spots in undergrad. If I ate like how I ate back in the day I would probably not be alive right now but as a special treat this chicken is the perfect excuse to double up on your cholesterol medication. Overall, the service at the drive-thru, the price point, and the food itself deserve a respectable three stars. You know what you are getting and that's that. went through the drive thru at chicken express 4633 s staples but didnt see my order till i got home. my order 6 pc hot wings and 6 liver & gravy meal, was so burnt and hard as a rock, it wasnt edible. i called and spoke with mike the manager, after i got home. he said i could come back in another day and he will make me a free replacement order. so when my boyfriend took in the receipt 2 days later and told the manager "dee" that was there that day not mike, she was very rude and didnt replace our meals like we were told. we will never go back to chicken express! it was a total waste of $22.82 that literaly was thrown in the trash! read more

Why do people choose a restaurant? They look for good food and good service. This Chicken Express was lacking both! After repeating my order several times, the server still messed up my order! I received cold fries instead of the jalapeño poppers that were requested. Was even charged extra for it. If this hadn't been a drive thru order and I was half way home, I'd have gone back. Instead, I gave my dogs the fries, enjoyed the catfish and am writing a review. The redeeming factor is that i absolutely love their catfish and tartar sauce! Will I choose this franchise? Nope!!! Yesterday, we ordered a 2 fillet dinner okra/mashed potatoes and drink... also 8 piece boneless wings okra/cole slaw and drink. We had to pull up and wait... brought our drinks and food after about 15 minutes waiting.. we drove home to find no okra on both orders. The fries nice and crunchy, corn fritters nice and tasty and the jalapeno poppers we're spicy but not too hot. First time coming here and I must say I'm impressed. It didn't look like much from the outside, but Chicken Express is exceptional. The fat food restaurant is very clean and pleasant. The staff is very friendly and our food was out and ready before we even finished filling up our beverages. I ordered the three piece chicken and I was able to choose exactly what I wanted (all dark meat, of course). The wings are huge, not "bite size" and they gave me FOUR pieces, big pieces. My wife ordered the four piece tender meal and received FIVE tenders that were all decent sized unlike some chicken places. They are definitely not stingy with their chicken. I must also add that the sweet tea is great! This fast food restaurant is a little out of pocket for me, but for the amount of delicious food that you are given at a very fair price I'd definitely make the trip to come more often. read more

This place has some pretty good chicken strips. They aren't oily and the bread tastes real fresh. The gizzards and livers aren't bad either they aren't over breaded. As for the service it was ok. They just wanted to leave . They turn off the tv when they knew we were watching the news then they turn the drinks off too. Where to begin... I visited this location to order meals to-go. After arriving at home, I noticed the chicken strips, gravy, and fries were cold. After one bite, I decided I would call the location to request a remake. Unfortunately, after multiple attempts to contact the location, I was unable to reach anyone. I arrived back at the location to an empty restaurant and requested a remake of my order. Assuming my meals were fresh and hot, I arrived back home to realize the staff took the easy way out. What the staff did was grab the already cooked chicken strips from the line, drop them in the fryer, and throw them in a box in hopes that I wouldn't mind hard, unenjoyable chicken. I then returned back to the restaurant, requested to speak to the manager, and described my experience and issues. I was told by the manager on duty that she told the cooks to remake the order and if they chose to throw the same chicken from the line into the fryer rather than producing fresh, that was not her problem. I visited this location on 10/23 at 9pm, and left after my third visit back at 9:45pm. This is not the first time I have had issues with the quality of food produced at this location. I urge you to use this as a learning opportunity so that others do not experience the same as I did this evening. At this point, I would rather drive across town or Portland to support their locations. read more
