When I'm in town I make sure to always stop here and order food. I usually go through the drive thru, but yesterday I decided to go inside. When I walked in two families were dining, a few couples waiting for their food, and a woman in line ordering. The restaurant has great natural light. I was not greeted when I walked in. The dining room was not the neatest. Customers weren't cleaning up after themselves at tables, employees weren't wiping down the tables or sweeping the floors. There were straw wrappers left by the drink station along with drink spills by customers. The women's restroom was nasty. Someone had urinated on the floor and put tissue over the mess. When I got to the register there were two middle aged men, (who were store managers, because I asked) tending to the register. They were not friendly at all. They acted as if I was invisible when standing there waiting to place my order. They never said, "Sorry for the wait. Someone will be with you shortly." or "Hello." I patiently waited and looked at the menu until a nice college aged male came and greeted me. He was friendly, kind, and patient. The receipt said his name was Zachery. I hope he was checking out under his name, because I want him to know how great he was in this experience. He had glasses, dark hair, with a shaggy haircut. He was the BEST! Thank you for being kind and having great customer service skills. Placing my order was a breeze with Zachery, even after I forgot to add something originally. I ordered two meals and an a la carte item. The first meal was a 4 piece regular chicken tenders w/jalapeño ranch, okra, mashed potatoes, and a roll. The next meal was the 3 piece catfish w/tartar sauce, okra, and hush puppies. The a la carte item was a 4 piece spicy chicken strip w/jalapeño ranch and a roll. Everything was fresh, hot, and a large portion size. I always get their sweet tea when I visit. I waited about 8 minutes for my food. The staff working behind the counter all seemed young college kids. They were working hard cooking and prepping orders. Great job to them. Despite the dining room/bathroom cleanliness and store managers lack of customer service; the food and Zachery made the experience better. Where do I begin? I went to the drive-thru and I ordered a number one combo. That number one combo comes with four chicken tenders, gravy french fries and a drink. When I place my order I stated that I wanted an extra gravy to go with the combo. I get home and lo and behold there are no french fries so I called the restaurant to ask if I could get a refund on the fries since they weren't in the box. The guy on the phone stated that the extra gravy was my side so I explained to him that I ordered a number one combo with an extra gravy because the combo already comes with a gravy. So I know it is expensive but every so often I go and get a family tenders meal and share some with my dogs. I decided to do tha last weekend. I also ordered a sweet tea... the 40 oz cup. When the girl handed it to me, I thought it slipped but as I was brining it in my car I realized it was split and it gave and the top half of the cup collapsed and spilled sweet tea all over me and my car... my brand new car. Now this wasn't necessarily the workers fault but she kind of shoved the cup in my hand and was turned around and on her phone so fast she missed the rest of the transaction. I had to honk my horn and ask for napkins and when I said the cup collapsed she said oh and gave me two napkins and closed the window again. That wasn't very good service. I didnt ask for a new drink or anything, I really just wanted to clean the mess. Ended up having to have car professionally detailed due to the stickiness that lingered everywhere. They had to use an extractor and shampoo almost the entire passenger side and middle of car. The window person could at least pay attention to what is happening and when you're told a cup collapsed and it's shown, maybe show a little concern. maybe you can't replace it but 40 oz needs more than 2 napkins and a shoulder shrug. By far the worst Chicken Express. Even pulling up to the window and seeing the people in front of me getting out to bring the food into the store because they messed up their food too is enough. This store had me running back and forth because the manager said they would remake the food for me but then when I got to the store they only said they would comp some fries. Seeing inside the store from the window a bunch of upset workers who don't care about the quality of the food or packaging. They tried to hand me a burnt order of fries and got upset when I asked for some fresh ones. After eating a few tenders it was very clear that someone prepped the tenders and seemingly added all of the salt they could possibly put into the mix rendering the food inedible. 0/5 experience. My family was wanting some fried chicken and we never have anything other than the chicken strips from here, so we decided to try out the mixed chicken (legs, thighs, breasts) We went through the drive thru and the guy taking our order was so polite and you could actually tell he enjoyed his job. And while we were paying at the window the smell coming through was so heavenly and all you could hear is all the employees laughing and joking, it's nice seeing people genuinely happy at their workplace. In the past we came through the drive thru a couple of times, but it had been a long while. We recently came twice in person and although the chicken can easily be 4 stars for fast food quality, this location in general is more of the 3 star variety. Our first visit was a late Saturday afternoon in January while running errands in the area. The dining room was about a third full despite it being an off peak time. Both the restaurant and bathrooms were clean. We didn't really have a chance to look at the menu as we were helped right away. We decided to split the 7 piece tenders (half regular, half spicy) with fries, a roll and a sweet tea. I asked what dipping sauces they had besides gravy and was told they didn't have other sauces. While waiting on our food (they deliver it to your table after calling your receipt number) I was looking at their printed menu I had picked up by the register. It clearly listed alternate sauces (as well as other things I didn't realize they had like catfish and wings). The cashier didn't strike me as new and ignorant about the menu- more indifferent and not wanting to deal with it. The sweet tea is very good here, I would go with that over a soda. The food was served hot and fresh. The fries are battered with a slight crisp on the outside and are soft on the inside. I prefer my fries more crispy than battered but my husband really liked them, depends on your preference. The roll was hot and buttery. The chicken strips are crispy and fairly juicy and very good for fast food chicken. The spicy is very mild in spice. What bothers me is that our 7 pieces were wildly different sizes, some were very short, some very skinny, most would be considered normal. Most places will throw in an extra piece to balance out the portion if you get a small or flat piece, but that wasn't the case here. Despite that, we were splitting the meal for $10.99 and didn't leave hungry. It was pretty decent overall with no real complaints except the cashier sauce blocking me so I stopped in a couple of Friday's later while running errands. Since the menu behind the counter was missing so much, I checked out the picture of the printed menu and decided that a kids meal was perfect to get me through my errands. Good thing I did, couldn't find that on the menu behind the counter. Again, the dining room was about a third full at an off peak time and I was helped immediately. The young woman answered my questions in a friendly fashion and I got a kids meal for $4.39 with a tender, mac, a roll and a sweet tea, it also came with a chocolate chip cookie. Again, they brought the food to the table. I got to see the consistency of the tenders. Although half the size of the other tenders I had the previous visit, they still had that great crispy breading, were fairly juicy and were well seasoned. The roll was again buttery and soft. Both times the food was served hot and the tea was tasty. The mac n cheese was pretty disgusting- chunky and the cheese didn't resemble the taste of cheese. The cookie was meh, but so what, I didn't even realize it was supposed to come with it. I was glad to get some honey mustard dipping sauce this time, but I noticed it had a watery consistency that didn't really stick to the tenders- weird. So not everything is on the same level but they get points for doing the tenders and tea justice in taste each time. Based on that being the main thing they serve, I would've rounded up to 4 stars if the size was more consistent or if they gave you 2 small pieces for the size of an average piece like other places do. The sides need work and it would be great if they redid the menu behind the counter so you could find everything they offer at once. Overall, it's okay. read more

I'm surprised at the bad reviews for this location. We frequently pick up via the drive-thru and so far it's been fine for the most part. The food is hot and never cold. I actually just tried the catfish and it's pretty good. My complaint is twice I have ordered an extra gravy and it's left out and I think the biscuits are too dry and hard. Needs a little work. Have never dined in and probably won't because I typically don't go go into a fast food place to dine in. If I'm going to that I am going to a restaurant. I think the employees need to verify the orders and there should be someone (at any restaurant) checking to make sure the orders are correct. This is supposed to be done anyways but it would be nice to have a little more attention paid to the order. But overall it's good food. read more

We went to Chicken Express on South Loop 288 in Denton yesterday at 4:42pm. I figured we would get a fresh dinner,considering the time of day. But no , neither of us could eat what we received. I spent over $20.00 for dry, hard "tenders".. Hard rolls, no butter to soften the rolls. My fried chicken smelled bad and did not taste good at all. Even the mashed potatoes were stiff and hard. I used to work at Chicken Express during my time in college (for a couple of years). I have very high standards and know what good chicken express food and service is. I can tell when tenders and sides have been sitting out and when the oil in the fryer hasn't been changed in a while. On this particular visit, our tenders were fresh, rolls -hot, and poppers- crunchy. The service was pretty good. The dinning area was also clean and well kept. However, there was one of three trash bins that needed to be taken out as it was filled to the brim. We visited around 6 pm and overall had a good experience. I will definitely return. read more

The first time we stopped at Chicken Express was for the CATFISH. The meal was not that tasty. Fries were not hot. CATFISH was too fishy tasting. The second trip I ordered a side of mashed potatoes and gravy to go. Imagine my surprise when I got home, opened the container, and found it not even 1/2 full. The potatoes were so runny that I had to eat with a spoon....when I finally found them under the mound of gravy. The 1 saving grace was that it stayed hot in the to go container. At 5:55 pm today went through the drive thru to get two half and half sweet teas. Chicken Express usually has the best tea around but this one was AWFUL. Not only that but this location charges $1.50. The Sherman location charges $1 and Gainesville charges $1.25. What's up with that? Never going to this location again. Best sweet tea is in Sherman. If I could give it a 0 I would . Just watched the worst service I have ever experienced in my senior life inside this restaurant. There was a literally an uprising by the customers inside. The young man at the counter was totally non-responsive to any questions. And when he did speak he mumbled under his breath. One customer actually beat her fist on the counter .
