I used to come to Cowboy Chicken almost weekly. My go-to was always the Three Piece Dark with Twice Baked Potatoes and Creamed Spinach. At some point in the past year, they dropped the creamed spinach from the menu, which was a huge bummer for me. I've since swapped it out for the fried okra, which is good, but it's just not the same. Because of that, I've probably only been back a couple of times this past year. That said, the chicken is still really solid. It's tender, juicy, and has that great smoked, fire-roasted flavor that originally hooked me. I placed three separate orders with names for each order. Each order was different. When the person delivered the orders - she delivered one large order as they combined all three orders and it was a mess to sort through as each order had a different quanity. The sandwiches were thrown together - the buns were soggy, some of the sandwiches actually had french fries mixed into them. The french fries were stone cold, the black carry out boxes had grease on the tops and greasy finger prints - I had to try cleaning them before giving to our guests. This particular store is one we frequent often. Last night, we call in a pickup order. First, they were out of okra. We pick up our order, arrive home and notice the twice baked potatoes are mixed with mashed potatoes. It was quite gross. I call the store to speak with the manager who tells me the recipe changed recently. Well two days ago, the twice baked potatoes were NOT mushy, nor mixed with mashed potatoes. So, I call another store and were told that their recipe has not changed. I am utterly disgusted and disappointed with how they seemed to try and stretch this side. Will not be back. read more

Don't even bother! I ordered two full chickens and 4 sides and they completely forgot the 4 sides. That's over $20 worth of food. This is not the first time they have fouled up a delivery and I'm sure it won't be the last! The poor delivery driver tried to make me take the chicken without the sides, and could not go back to the store to pickup the sides because they were closing shortly. Cowboy chicken isn't good. My daughter and I are huge fans of the chicken but this location has gone down in quality & service. Today I ordered 2 piece dark with fried okra & Mexican street corn. I didn't enjoy my meal at all. The chicken looked undercooked and wasn't good. The Mexican corn was not fresh and nothing like the corn I have ordered in past from this location The okra was just ok but nothing more. I regret placing order because the quality of the food is epic failure. This location opened a few years ago and service plus food much better not so much now. My Doordash-delivered Cobb salad today was the second time I've experienced well below par quality from this restaurant, specifically for salads. The first time, my dining companion --a person of color-- ordered a salad as did I, and her bed of greens and garnishes were obviously older than those served to me. The salad I paid a premium for today ($16 PLUS delivery fee PLUS a tip) was mostly inedible. Greens were browning, avocado was old, tomatos were mushy. I wasn't a huge fan of the twice baked potatoes though. They tasted alright, but the texture threw me off. I was expecting them to be mashed potatoes, but they had more of a shredded situation going on that you'd find in a casserole, like funeral potatoes. I wouldn't recommend doing a curbside order for this place. I'm not sure if something was wonky on their end, I know my internet was pretty slow at the time, but I waited 20-30 minutes for my food before I finally went inside and picked it up myself. I would've gone in sooner if not for what I was wearing. It didn't look like the curbside spots were visible from the counter, so the employees likely couldn't see my car. Also, one of the curbside/to-go signs was placed in front of a handicapped parking space which I thought was a little questionable. I have no idea if that's legal, but it definitely would have definitely been illegal for me to sit there for the amount of time I had to wait for my food. Third time here and each time 2 out of 4 guests are dissapointed. Bbq chicken sandwich was just very sweet sauce and rotisserie chicken. Nothing to add to it. Slaw, mayo, mater? Customer ate half. Enchiladas were also very plain and swimming in a cheese sauce. No salsa or anything to dress it up. Tortilla with chicken and cheese sauce. The one who got the bowl was happy. The one who got the roterissery half was so so. Plain is okay but something to make it better than a Walmart chicken at 5$ would be nice. Service was good. Along with cobbler and Mac n cheese. Food arrived cold first off. Second, the combo plates had no brisket and one piece of white meat. How do you miss this? So I called the store and spoke to a girl named Lydia. When I told her the issue she said she was really busy and the only one working and there was a line out the door. Ummm yeah ok. I asked to speak to a manager and she said she didn't know where he was. So I asked her to please go find him and after a brief hold she said her manager wasn't there and may have gone home. How do you not know if your manager is on site? Ok fine. I asked her to make our order right by delivering what we ordered. I did not ask for extra or free food. Just asked for what we ordered. Lydia said she would 'try' to get it to us. She asked for no information like our address. When asked if she needed our address she said "oh yeah I guess". This has to be one of the worst failures of customer service I've experienced in a while. What food we did get was cold and didn't taste particularly good. The cobbler was cold and for a peach cobbler...well there was no peaches in it lol! I'm more upset that Cowboy Chicken just blew me off like this and acted like I was a burden for calling with a problem. I will be contacting the manager who's name is Dustin and seeing if they have a DM and corporate number because I'm going to be taking this one up the ladder. We paid over $80 and got treated like we were a problem when we had to address this issue. We will never give Cowboy Chicken our business again. If I could give them a big fat zero I would. I know things happen. But when you are rude and act like you don't care and treat a customer like crap I have a problem. I'm sure they don't care but they lost a customer. They gave me a chicken that had been cooked, left under a heat lamp, possibly warmed up in a microwave to turn the overcooked areas back to a rubbery substance that felt like chicken jerky... like 60% of the chicken was rubbery overcooked jerky. You are a chicken place- Dont you think you could get that part right? The girl at the counter also forgot to give me my drink then looked at me all crazy when I asked for it. I enjoyed this chicken on the grill. It was seasoned well and wasn't super dry. I got the sweet potato and salad for sides (yeah a bit on the boring side rn, I know). Potato was cooked well with no topics, how I like it. Salad was chopped but almost tooo chopped, Prefer bigger bites. I've been to this Cowboy Chicken several times since they've opened years ago and each time I had a different opinion after dining in. The last time I went was years ago and my food tasted like it had been sprayed with Lysol so I stopped going there. I finally decided to give them another try. I would give this a 3.5 star if I could but the food itself gave it the bonus to 4 stars. This time the food was much better, perhaps 4.5 on food, but the dining area was noisy, super cold, and there were some flies buzzing around. You walk in, order at the counter up front, take a number, help yourself to the beverages, take a seat, and await your order to be delivered. This format is similar to McAlister's, Whataburger, etc. The menu is pretty straight-forward. You have chicken dishes that include a various number of pieces of bone-in chicken, a few sandwiches, including pulled BBQ chicken, roasted boneless skinless breast, and chicken salad. They also have chicken enchiladas doused in sour cream sauce which I remember getting on a previous visit and I wasn't too impressed. The side choices include a wide range of typical options such as side salad, fries, mac & cheese, green beans, okra, etc. Our order: The Original Cowboy Sandwich: Very good. The boneless, skinless chicken breast was very moist, flavorful, and had a nice hint of smoke. The bun was a bit sweet and buttered, more like a dinner roll rather than a sandwich bun - kinda like the rolls at Texas Roadhouse. Half Chicken (upgraded to all white meat). The wings were extremely good, oh man. The skin was super flavorful and crispy. Normally I peel the skin off but this skin was just roasted to crispy perfection so I just ate it all. The breast pieces were great too. The skin was easy to peel off and I didn't miss it because the meat itself was so flavorful and moist. The seasoning was very good and there was a subtle smokiness. Really - this is some very good chicken. The sides were a bit disappointing. The green beans were good and obviously freshly steamed - I would definitely order them again. The side salad was pretty typical, nothing remarkable. The cucumber&tomato salad was out of balance - there were too many raw red onions and tomatoes which overwhelmed the cucumbers. Instead of being refreshing, the cucumber&tomato salad was harsh and we didn't care to eat much of it. Next time, I would definitely try the ranchero beans and maybe the baked potato. The meal was a decent value, I'd say it was on-par with other fast casual eateries in the area. In you are craving some good bone-in roasted chicken then you will probably enjoy a meal from Cowboy Chicken. I'd recommend sticking to the obvious specialties - roasted chicken, ranch-style sides, and perhaps bring a jacket if you don't like freezing! read more

I want to give zero stars for this experience. I also want to point out that there were only 3 people that made this experience bad. I only interacted with 3 of them. When we arrived, the cashier was not very personable and seemed bothered by us ordering there. We surpassed that to encounter the semi warm food. I ordered an enchilada plate and the chicken was fresh but the meal seemed like a tv dinner. Lastly, I left my phone in the restroom. They watched me go back and forth from the restroom, my husband calling my phone and getting no answer only to pop up with my phone when we heard the faint sound of my location alert sound. It was then that one of the employees came up to me saying that I'd left it my phone in the bathroom and it was on the counter the whole time. My issue with this is there was only one other family in there and not to mention my daughter's face was on the front of the phone. I just said thank you and took the phone. They could have moved on. In the midst of all of this, my husband order a dessert and they purposely let it sit on the counter for over 20 minutes before my husband finally got up to ask where it was. I saw that container being placed there and let my husband know it was his, but he was giving them the benefit of the doubt. The male manager with the dreadlocks looked back at me smirking so I figured something was amidst. Why they would behave so petty is beyond me. Ordered delivery within a 10 minute drive. Arrived 40 minutes earlier than expected which was great! Delivery driver was courteous and wore a mask and gloves. Chicken was good, a little dry but if you know you're getting rotisserie chicken you know what to expect. The fries were a little too soggy to eat but the corn fritters were amazing! Sort of like hushpuppies but the inside is like creamed corn. My only real complaint is that the online ordering platform doesn't quite match with the menu on the website--and the website is not optimized for mobile--just a lot of scrolling through pictures without captions. I have been going there for about a year since I found it. The first few times the chicken tenders was excellent. One visit later the tenders was only crust no chicken and what little chicken there was tasted like jerky and just as tough. I contacted the manager of how disappointed I was because I loved going there. He offered me a dessert next time in. I hesitated to go back but finally did because their ad had, try our new tenders. I did not disclose who I was. This time the tenders had a very strange odor and tasted exactly like the odor! I covered up the plate and left.
