This was my first time trying this place out after driving by it several times for a couple of months. Upon entering, I noticed it was empty. I asked myself, "Where are the customers?" That concerned me a little bit, but not enough to cause me to turn around and walk out. I also noticed it wasn't the cleanest place, but that doesn't mean the food isn't good. I'm not sure if it's because the restaurant's been there for years and it's just aged, but it didn't appear clean. Where there was carpet, it was worn and matted. The bathroom was totally disgusting and looked and smelled like it hadn't been cleaned since my mother was in elementary school, and she's now 78 years old. The young lady who took my order was very pleasant and engaging. I enjoyed speaking with her about the menu items. She was very honest about certain things when it came to how different items tasted that I inquired about, and I appreciated her for that. I wound up ordering the fried whiting and double collard greens for my two sides. I didn't have to wait long, of course, because nobody else was in there. While I was waiting for my food, only three people came in for takeout. I arrived home and started diving into the food. The collard greens were bland and obviously out of a can. I had to doctor them up with some seasonings and vinegar. The supposed to be "chicken wings" (wing dings) wasn't seasoned like I'm used to chicken being seasoned. It was too bland. The hush puppies were disgusting, but the french fries were good. The fried whiting was, to my surprise, flavorful. I enjoyed that. The fried shrimp was savory as well, and I enjoyed that. The food is not as good as it use to be since there has been so many changes in cooks. There is only one cook that is constant and In the past I had to have my food recooked because my chicken was still raw with a little blood at the center of it. Now the macaroni is like that watery macaroni that comes in a box and everything tastes like it came from a can without being rinsed good. I had the green beans one week and they were very good, but went back two weeks later and they were not the same. No flavor other than the can taste. Collard greens were a travesty last time I had them because they were over seasoned and not with the right combination of seasonings. Found this place on Yelp and decided to grab lunch from here on the way out of town when I was visiting Charlotte last year. I ordered online without any issues, paid online, then came through the drive thru to pick everything up. You'll notice there is a huge menu when you pull up - lots of options for everyone. I ordered 2 pc fried chicken wings, a chicken Philly, and fried oysters. I've never really eaten oysters before, so I decided to try them fried first. I'm not big on slimy textures (like okra when it's not fried), so I figured this was the safest way to give them a shot. I actually really enjoyed them and highly recommend them from here. They were tasty, fresh, well seasoned, and not slimy at all. I'm glad I got the oysters and wings as I was not a fan of the chicken Philly. It was not traditional at all. I've had some really good Phillies from south Jersey and this was more of just a chopped up grilled chicken sandwich with warm/soggy lettuce. It wasn't done right, so I wouldn't get that again. The fried wings were excellent. Overall, it was a great experience for a great value. The staff who handled my order were nice and friendly. I just pulled up in the lot and ate. Ate there today. Health inspection 96.0, and the food is to die for! Had fish and shrimp combo, way too much food, but all so good! Staff was amazing and friendly. We ate there. She took the time in explaining that its best for me to just get a combo. It includes 6 wings and potato salad. And no they don't have Mac n Cheese like I thought. This place is located in a somewhat sketchy strip mall. It has a little bit of everything, wings, burgers, subs, chicken.... I had the greek burger and fries. It was very tasty. It did not take me long to get my food and they have specials listed all over the place. I haven't been to the CK at Nations Ford/Archdale in a year or so. The quality has gone downhill. Fries were cold, chicken was fair. The interior needs a lot of work. Ceiling tiles brown and falling. Dirt and grease on the kitchen walls. Drink machine broken. Sad to see the interior in such disrepair. read more

I went to chicken king on the advice of a friend. I hit the drive-through and got a gizzard/liver combo dinner and a couple of pieces of their fried chicken. The gizzards and livers were as good as I've had, The chicken was crispy and juicy... Reminded me a little bit of the chicken coop. The portions are large, the price is very reasonable. The only good-great service from the sweet and friendly girls at the counter. The bad- EVERYTHING else. I order the fried oysters platter, and every single thing in the box was not fresh, but frozen, including the oysters (which tasted fishy). They were mushy and gross. The hush puppies, o-rings, and fries were also from frozen and gross. I think I should've got the fried chicken, but I had already had that for lunch Elsewhere. My daughters bbq tasted gamey, and pretty sure it had been from frozen as well. Lastly, the dining room had a slight sewer smell to it, like a sewer had backed up. It wasn't coming from the bathroom or outside. I came to the conclusion that it was the industrial drains in the dining room floor. I really hate to give this rating, because I do try my best to support small businesses. But, I have to be honest. We ordered from this restaurant today and also last week thru "Foodsby" which delivers to remote locations in charlotte. Last week, I got the plain fried party wings with collards and Cajun rice. This week I got pork chops with mac n cheese and baked beans Pros: Food portion was good, food appearance was good, and the service (them getting the order right) was spot on Cons: EVERYTHING (other than the bread) was salty! Ive never known you could have/had salty mac n cheese. But someone there is pretty heavy handed with the seasoning. I had to put my wings and pork chop in the toaster oven to get them crispier. The wings isn't their fault, bc I didn't ask for extra crispy. But I did for the pork chops and they were still flimsy. Myself and my coworkers had high BP headaches after eating the food and we don't suffer from high BP at all. My sister went there after I sent her the picture of my food and she called later saying she was nervous because her head was swimming from the salt. Hello friends, This is what I believe is their latest opening. When you walk in there is the counter for you to place your order. To the right of that on an elevated platform is the dining area which seem to be very spacious. As for the food. YUMMO!! They have daily specials. The day I went, one of the specials was a TRIPLE CHIPOTLE BACON CHEESEBURGER w/ chilli, coleslaw and fries. Now get this. The bacon. Ohhhhh the bacon. (As I stare off in a daze) this isn't the skinny, brittle, i-think-i-taste-bacon type deal. This is the thick cut damn that's tasty bacon. I made the mistake of not calling my order in ahead of time. I ordered 8 lemon pepper wings and onion rings. They weren't what I would call very busy, but the wait was pretty long. I wont make that mistake again. Waiting long gave me the chance to sit down and look around. I will say that the employees were nice, but the place looked like it could use a good cleaning day. I mean, I'm originally from NJ/NY area, so I have no problem eating from a "less than pristine" place. You should see the corner stores and food trucks I was raised from. It's not terrible, but it needs some work............ unless that's the look they are going for. Anyway, I will say that the was impressed with the food..... both the chicken and onion rings. I ordered the 6 wing box with greens and cajun rice via Foodsby. I received a message that the delivery would be late which I didn't mind because they were scheduled to arrive a little early. My wings are currently in the break room toaster oven so they can get a little more crisp. I didn't ask for extra crispy so this is not a major irritant. What truly bothers me is the amount of salt that they have used on the greens and cajun rice. I can't eat them for fear I'll pass out due to the hike in my blood pressure. It was my first visit to Chicken King since moving to Charlotte. I'd heard nothing but good things about this place so I was pretty sure everyone couldnt be wrong! I went with some co-workers and everyone got something different which was a great way for me to know what else I want to try on the menu. I ordered a chicken sandwhich, my co-workers ordered the chicken philly, philly with steak and peppers and fried fish. My chicken sandwich was messy, but delicious! It's a grilled chicken breast with lettuce and tomato I swapped the mayo for hot sauce and it was perfect. The fries were cooked up fresh to order and for less than $8 I left full and happy. Yep. This place may get lost in sight and not too easy on the eyes but is what I look forward to after a long day at work. The food is terrible for my heart and arteries, but just oh so comforting. I've loved everything I've gotten here from the Seafood Platters to the Fried Chicken and even a simple, Cheeseburger with Fries. The location is a little sketch, and it's easy to overlook. Once inside, the specials and daily deals line the wall. The menu is pretty diverse. Chicken ... Seafood... Gyro. The cashier was helpful and cheerful. Food is made to the order, so call ahead or expect a 15-20 minute wait if you show up to take out. I ordered the 4 piece chicken dinner. The seasoning was very good, the fries were great ... But the Mac and cheese was like velveeta style. I'll be trying other sides the next time. Overall I was impressed with my experience at Chicken King, especially after having been let down by the flavorless chicken at Price's Chicken Coop. It takes a while, you do have to wait and they need to replace the seats in the dining area, but if the food is good, WHO CARES?! Great stuff. Nearby to our hotel we walked over around 6. It's tucked in the back of a strip mall and many of the stores are closed so it almost doesn't look open till you get right up next to it. The menu is huge! From burgers to chicken, gyros, fish, and some others. It took both of us a while to decide. I went with a spicy chicken sandwich and some hush puppies. The puppies were extra crisp and somewhat dry but passable. The real star here though is of course the chicken and that sandwich was on point. The breast was large and cooked very well. The provolone was melted all the way around and the hot sauce was not over powering but still kicking.
