Awesome-sauce. The prior post about middle east meets qdoba is about right. Very fresh food in a wrap or a bowl. Pick a meat and a stuffing, some sauce and toppings (lettuce, pickled cabbage, the normal stuff). They have lots of choices and they are all good. I got falafel which I was pleased to see they fried on the spot. The hummus is delish. Three varieties (red pepper, cilantro, or plain), fried or plain pita. Garlic is strong and great. Two sandwiches, a big hummus, garlic and pita with two pops was $15. Prices are scheduled to increase slightly. Pros: everything above. Also the owner, or a very enthusiastic employee, showed us through the menu and food. I wish: they had a combo with pop and a side. Good rice with nuts instead of plain white. Fries as a side item. I came here to try something semi healthy for my cheat day and it ended up being great. It's almost like a version of chipotle. Pick your protein. You can have a bowl or wrap add sauces and veggies. Delicious!! I had the falafel bowl with cracked wheat and all sorts of toppings. The falafel is hand made and excellent. The hot sauce is HOT - perfect for my taste. And the garlic sauce is outstanding, made the traditional way (garlic, oil, lemon - NO MAYO like some other places do as a short cut to getting the right consistency). I was excited to try this place after reading all the wonderful reviews ! I saw that they have a French fry bow as an option instead of rice so of course had to try it. I don't think the lady even put a handful of fries in the dish it did not even cover the bottom of the dish. She scooped some chicken on the top which still seemed like such a small amount. As I watched the few ppl ahead if me I noticed there bowls over flowing with goodness and my peasant bowl lol... I added a few veggies and was on my way. Needless to say there was hardly any fries or meat the toppings on the top of my main course over powered it ( I had garlic , onions , peppers and cheese) it just tasters bad :( I ended up tossing the dish and grabbing a shawarma from another establishment. I gave 3 stars for the fact it was clean and the veggies where fresh and they had a great variety to chose from. So bummed do not get fresh fries if you do plan a visit maybe rice is the way to go when getting a bowl. I can only assume that was what the customers in front of me had. read more

It's not really bad, I just can't justify ever going here with La Saj being an equal distance away. I end up paying like 30% more for what I pay for a shwarma sandwich and La Saj, and I'm not sat in a fancy establishment and fed endless delicious free bread and garlic sauce. I came across this spot thanks to a fellow Yelper. I have to say he was spot on! The different flavored hummus and you get to choose from an array of toppings you like! Winning!! The inside of the restaurant was clean and the ordering process was swift if you've never tried a topping and you're not sure just ask to sample they kindly oblige! If there were a place like this in Macomb near Hall Rd. they would have to start a frequent diner card for us fanatics! Freshness and simplicity is the name of the game at the Chickpea Kitchen. Craving Middle Eastern food and neither wanting a full on and time consuming sit down dining experience or grocery store hummus and tabbouleh, we thought this would be the perfect fix. Coming all the way from Port Huron for a pita sandwich, there was some doubt that it would be worth the drive. Once we entered and were greeted by the friendly faces of the family who runs the restaurant and the smell of freshly grilled meat, my worries began to melt. And when they told me the falafel was fried to order, I knew we'd made the right choice. As mentioned previously, it is basically a like Chipotle or Subway with a middle eastern food. Per the young woman behind the counter, everything is made fresh and prepared daily. There was no doubt in my mind about this once I took my first bite and the fresh flavors from the both crisp and creamy falafel, pickled turnips, garlic and hot sauce, and crisp cucumber and cilantro blew up my palate. My partner had the chicken schwarma and while I only had a nibble, it was very well seasoned and had great roasted and caramelized flavor. So yeah, the food is fresh and delicious, but I also want to remark that the staff was what took it from a four to a five star rating. They were generous with the samples and grateful for our patronage and compliments. They even threw in some extra hummus on the house with our to-go fattoush. Awesome restaurant with fast and friendly service. I've eaten here at least half a dozen times, getting new combinations each time and it's always tasty and fresh. Last time I had the chicken cream chop bowl with rice, cilantro hummus, and a few veggies. The chicken was fried fresh right in front of me and cut to my liking. The chicken was crispy breaded but still moist inside, the rice was firm and not clumpy, and the veggies looked just cut and tasted fresh. On top of it all they have an open cooler with cool made in Michigan drinks....I love cream soda! The price is super reasonable for a meal, drink and chips, especially for a local place. The seating area is always clean, with silverware and napkins readily available, and a fresh decor. I would definitely recommend others to try Chickpea Kitchen! read more
