Awesome-sauce. The prior post about middle east meets qdoba is about right. Very fresh food in a wrap or a bowl. Pick a meat and a stuffing, some sauce and toppings (lettuce, pickled cabbage, the normal stuff). They have lots of choices and they are all good. I got falafel which I was pleased to see they fried on the spot. The hummus is delish. Three varieties (red pepper, cilantro, or plain), fried or plain pita. Garlic is strong and great. Two sandwiches, a big hummus, garlic and pita with two pops was $15. Prices are scheduled to increase slightly. Pros: everything above. Also the owner, or a very enthusiastic employee, showed us through the menu and food. I wish: they had a combo with pop and a side. Good rice with nuts instead of plain white. Fries as a side item. Delicious!! I had the falafel bowl with cracked wheat and all sorts of toppings. The falafel is hand made and excellent. The hot sauce is HOT - perfect for my taste. And the garlic sauce is outstanding, made the traditional way (garlic, oil, lemon - NO MAYO like some other places do as a short cut to getting the right consistency). I was excited to try this place after reading all the wonderful reviews ! I saw that they have a French fry bow as an option instead of rice so of course had to try it. I don't think the lady even put a handful of fries in the dish it did not even cover the bottom of the dish. She scooped some chicken on the top which still seemed like such a small amount. As I watched the few ppl ahead if me I noticed there bowls over flowing with goodness and my peasant bowl lol... I added a few veggies and was on my way. Needless to say there was hardly any fries or meat the toppings on the top of my main course over powered it ( I had garlic , onions , peppers and cheese) it just tasters bad :( I ended up tossing the dish and grabbing a shawarma from another establishment. I gave 3 stars for the fact it was clean and the veggies where fresh and they had a great variety to chose from. So bummed do not get fresh fries if you do plan a visit maybe rice is the way to go when getting a bowl. I can only assume that was what the customers in front of me had. read more

It's not really bad, I just can't justify ever going here with La Saj being an equal distance away. I end up paying like 30% more for what I pay for a shwarma sandwich and La Saj, and I'm not sat in a fancy establishment and fed endless delicious free bread and garlic sauce. Love this idea of Middle Eastern food. It's almost like Qdoba but with better ingredients and 10 times more flavor. The only thing I didn't care for was the soup. But everything else was great. Chickpea Kitchen has easily become my favorite restaurant since a family member introduced me to it a few months ago. I always get the chicken shawarma bowl, sometimes 2 or 3 times a week. So addictive. The blonde cashier (forgot her name) is very friendly and always gives great service! My only complaints are that as the restaurant has become more popular (the only successful restaurant in such a beaten down strip mall), the portions have become smaller. Every dish comes with free hummus, but the amount is very unproportionate to the bowl. Extra hummus is 75 cents. Depending on who is working, I have to ask for extra. The meat portions have become smaller as well, which reminds me of Chipotle. The dining area can be a bit awkward as the tables are very close together, but this restaurant has become so successful that I believe they will expand in the future and make better seating. read more

Finally got to try it after all the raves about this place. It's pretty good and the value is even better. For two bowls, it cost us about $13. It's just like Chipotle- except with Chaldean food in replacement to Mexican. It was very good and for the price you can't beat it. We opted for the chicken cream chop and the lady made it fresh for us. Very good, we will be back! I wish they'd open a location on the west side of town. read more

Freshness and simplicity is the name of the game at the Chickpea Kitchen. Craving Middle Eastern food and neither wanting a full on and time consuming sit down dining experience or grocery store hummus and tabbouleh, we thought this would be the perfect fix. Coming all the way from Port Huron for a pita sandwich, there was some doubt that it would be worth the drive. Once we entered and were greeted by the friendly faces of the family who runs the restaurant and the smell of freshly grilled meat, my worries began to melt. And when they told me the falafel was fried to order, I knew we'd made the right choice. As mentioned previously, it is basically a like Chipotle or Subway with a middle eastern food. Per the young woman behind the counter, everything is made fresh and prepared daily. There was no doubt in my mind about this once I took my first bite and the fresh flavors from the both crisp and creamy falafel, pickled turnips, garlic and hot sauce, and crisp cucumber and cilantro blew up my palate. My partner had the chicken schwarma and while I only had a nibble, it was very well seasoned and had great roasted and caramelized flavor. So yeah, the food is fresh and delicious, but I also want to remark that the staff was what took it from a four to a five star rating. They were generous with the samples and grateful for our patronage and compliments. They even threw in some extra hummus on the house with our to-go fattoush. Would and will frequent this new restaurant any time we're in the area. It's just begging to be franchised and I hope that it will be! read more

Awesome restaurant with fast and friendly service. I've eaten here at least half a dozen times, getting new combinations each time and it's always tasty and fresh. Last time I had the chicken cream chop bowl with rice, cilantro hummus, and a few veggies. The chicken was fried fresh right in front of me and cut to my liking. The chicken was crispy breaded but still moist inside, the rice was firm and not clumpy, and the veggies looked just cut and tasted fresh. On top of it all they have an open cooler with cool made in Michigan drinks....I love cream soda! The price is super reasonable for a meal, drink and chips, especially for a local place. The seating area is always clean, with silverware and napkins readily available, and a fresh decor. I would definitely recommend others to try Chickpea Kitchen! read more
