I'm unfortunately writing this after having had an adverse experience this evening at the Studio City location, where they turned me away when I was making a return. They said that their scanners were new and "weren't working" on return orders. When I shared this negative experience with the sales associates at the Sherman Oaks location, I was met with empathy and compassion. They explained to me that this has been a regular occurrence where customers are turned away from the Studio City store when making returns and that this is against Free People's policy. I was so shocked at hearing this, but also grateful that they took the time to explain to me what happened and that I wasn't alone. I was at the store a few days ago with my wife to shop. I was just walking around and browsing while my wife was doing the actual and real shopping. Before I knew it I was surrounded by obnoxious, rude and super entitled individuals, people who reminded me why Beverly Hills customers - generally speaking - are some of the worse customers on the planet. I am a firm believer that the customer is not always right and it is up to the store to ensure that both, customers and employees are both behaving properly and in a humane way. But this is when it gets nice. People from the client services saw my frustration, approached me, talked to me, made me feel nice, safe and heard and a few jokes and a few moments later, I ended up buying two pairs of sunglasses for myself. Somehow Beth just by looking at my face knew which sunglasses would look good on me and told me where to go and which pairs to try on and she couldn't have been more right. So a big thank you to their team, a big shout out to all of them who work hard for the company and I assure you that my wife and I will be back for more shopping. I came to this location after calling ahead and being told that the dress and size I was looking for were available in store. Since this was for a very special occasion, I was excited and made the trip out to Beverly Hills specifically for it. Unfortunately, the experience was disappointing almost immediately. When we asked an employee for help locating the dress, the interaction felt very unfriendly and dismissive. I completely understand retail can be busy and stressful, but the tone and body language made it feel like asking for assistance was an inconvenience. It made the shopping experience uncomfortable instead of welcoming. Things became even more uncomfortable when I was in the fitting room trying on a dress and another employee entered without knocking while I was changing. There was no warning or pause before entering, and it caught me completely off guard. Privacy in fitting rooms should really be handled more carefully. At that point, I honestly just wanted to leave. The only employee who made the experience better was Tiffany, who was kind, patient, and genuinely helpful. She was the one bright spot during the visit and I appreciated her professionalism. To make matters worse, I was then told to go to the Melrose location because they supposedly had the dress in stock there. After spending another 30 minutes driving over, I found out the dress was not actually available. The inaccurate inventory information made an already frustrating experience even more disappointing. I am intentionally avoiding personal or physical descriptions in this review, but I believe management should be able to determine which employees were involved based on the timing of my visit and the interactions that occurred in the fitting room and sales floor areas. I had really hoped this would be a fun and memorable shopping trip because I was looking for a dress for an important once-in-a-lifetime event. I already felt a little intimidated shopping in Beverly Hills, so the dismissive interactions and overall atmosphere unfortunately left me feeling uncomfortable and discouraged instead of excited.
