I understand that many shops have this rule, but with a markup this extreme, it felt unreasonable. I left without having the work done. I drove 20 miles and put 4 gallons in the 10 foot truck, filling the tank above the mark on the gauge and paper contract- returned after hours. They charged me for additional 4 gallons. The receptionist would not listen to a word of my concern and hung up on me. There are many Uhaul operators in the area, choose a different location- Autoworks is not honest about gas charges!

I had my vehicle towed there (it's $600 for each tow) and even spoke to someone there, told them what kind of vehicle and what was wrong and was told to bring it in for an estimate. NOBODY told me it would be $158/hour to diagnose...nobody. I even spoke to the mechanic once it was there, someone at the front desk and there was NO mention of this. I read some of the other reviews and I'm getting the sense they definitely take advantage of people if the situation calls for it. I called twice to get a status with no response or call back in that month and a half worth of time. Finally called yesterday and was put on hold a few times (it seemed they were looking into an issue), then a new service writer told me that he just started three days ago, read the notes that said to just "call owner" and says oh gee that would be $158/hour since it wasn't running (nobody at the get go told me that, nor after or since until now) AND my vehicle has been sitting there for a month and a half or more!? I would have made other plans if I knew this. So then to top it off, I get hung up on (I was completely calm on the phone), call back, leave a message and then eventually connect about an hour later. Now all of a sudden he says that the lead mechanic already did 1.5 of work that I'd be charged for and fixed a switch and got it started but won't stay running and needs more work. The lack of communication in this is absolutely astounding and now how do I trust anything!? All I got was an oops sorry nobody called you and told you how much it would be or even gave you anything in writing or authorized any work!? My family owns a shop farther away and that is completely illegal!! I have no choice now but to have them continue and told them to cut it off at a certain amount of hours. I will update once this situation is complete and fairly if resolved. Now I'm skeptical but if I can't at least get the vehicle running to make it to my house, I will have to get another $600 tow. If they can tell me what's wrong with it, even better. I'm hoping for the best and will update once this is resolved.

When I got the car back my headlights did not work. I went back to let them know and left my car there. They said they would take a look. Another week went by and I had to call again to follow up. They said I would need to take the car to Tidewater Auto Electric because of the wiring. I did a quick Google search and it suggested to check the headlight relay and ballasts. I ordered the parts on Amazon and changed them myself. I am not a mechanic and was able to figure it out. The headlights worked after that. They have a Superman figure displayed there at the register. I guess headlight work is Superman's kryptonite. I would be very cautious of the accountability at this shop.

Okay... so I pick up the car and they say they couldn't align it fully due to needing a kit for rear alignment. Okay. I order the kit and take it back today. I called yesterday and was told yep drop it off and we will get it done tomorrow. I get up early and wake up the woman to pick me up. Dropped off before 7 and I call at 5 and not touched. I was told that they had 8 other cars ahead of me from the day before. Ridiculous. I went back and got my car. I won't give them another penny. Just friggin' ridiculous. What happened to the folks that ran it before that were worth a poo? Major fail. Don't take it there.
