I first went to Chik's about 25 or more years ago when they were at the other location. They did a great job fixing the AC on my 4Runner Years later, I had a RAV4 with AC troubles and went back. It was such an extensive and expensive repair, I wondered if it was worth fixing. On THEIR end, they told me my warranty at Toyota was still good and that I should take the car there. I did. It saved me thousands of dollars, money that could have gone in their pocket. Wonder how many businesses would be that honest? Fast forward to this year, my 92 year old mom took her car to Chiks. You hear of stories how seniors are taken advantage of. Not at Chiks. I trusted them so much that I didn't feel the need to go with her My friend, too, took her car because of AC problems. I have no issue with the service provided. My check engine light was alerting to an issue. Chik's diagnosed the issue. Additionally, as requested they looked over all the systems and told me about issues they found. I was given an estimate and the work was authorized. The work could not be completed because a part had to be brought in from the mainland. After the second drop off, my vehicle repairs were completed. The final cost was almost $500 more than the original price. I informed them I would be coming shortly to pick up my vehicle. When I arrived their lot was empty and my vehicle was not insite. I was informed that they had parked it off property, about a block away. I took issue with my vehicle having been parked off site on a public street. Street parking is for the public to use, not for businesses to store the vehicles they are intrusted with. Additionally, Chik's has a large parking area that was completely empty. How are they able to insure the safety of the vehicles if said vehicles are parked where they can not monitor them? Would Chik's still he liable for any loss or damage to the vehicles? I dropped the vehicle off at their lot and when I went to pick ot up I had to march down the street to retrieve it. Would this be acceptable to them if I had left the vehicle a block away and excepted them to fetch it to make the repairs. The employee gave some attitude about my dismay. I left very disappointed in the customer service. On my way home Chik's called. They stated that the messed up in the billing and neglected to deduct the deposit I had put down on the special order parts. They asked if I would come back so the could give me back the deposit. I was already half way home and told them I had taken off two days, so the repairs could be done. I asked them to mail me the deposit and it took another week before I received it. I'm satisfied with the work that was done but the customer service was less than ideal. I don't think I will be returning to Chik's in the future. Don't go here to get your car A/C fix or looked it, go to another shop. About a year ago, my 2013 Mazda car was blowing warm air. I scheduled an appointment with Chik's to figure out what the issue for my car. I was told that there is a leak and they could not find it. The best option was to replace the whole A/C unit that would have cost a over $2,000 to fix. The diagnostic fee on that day was about $80+. At this point it was either selling the car or getting the A/C fixed. Instead, I got a second opinion at another auto shop near the Kalihi area. This auto shop filled my car with the proper refrigerant and ran their diagnostic for a few hours. No leaks and the A/C was blowing cold air. The price I paid was a cheaper than Chik's diagnostic fee. At the time of this writing, the A/C is still blowing cold air. I don't understand this deceptive practice of not properly diagnosing a car for A/C problems when your business says "Chik's Auto Air & Repair." I would not recommend this place for car and A/C repairs. For safety check you'll be fine. read more

Came here on recommendation from a neighbor. Car has been "wawawawa"-ing. Thought it was wheel bearing but whoever test drove my vehicle either didn't or couldn't be bothered to get up to 40mph in it to actually diagnose the issue. They looked at the bearing and said it looks find which is a relief but I'm not really trusting the diagnostic after they quoted me $550-650 to replace the front brake pads. Yes, just the pads. Must be nice to make $500 an hour to install a part that would take less time than that and costs no more that $40.... Hard pass and won't be back. Have a few mechanic friends who I called afterward and asked what a reasonable quote is for this and they all said that Chik's "quote" price is "highway robbery" Even an easy internet search says at most it would cost is $350 and that's at a dealership. Went to get AC system check out due to a leak. Had an appointment scheduled and arrived early. Owner said it would take 2-4 hours and would call/text when car was ready. Waited over 4 hours and didn't hear from him. When I arrived to see if my car was done he said yes, you could take it. Didn't tell me where the leak was coming from or what was done till I asked. Paid $200 for the AC diagnostic assessment and he said if I want to repair it $100 credit applies towards the job order. Poor customer service. read more

If I could give this business ZERO stars, I would! A few weeks ago I noticed my driver side AC not blowing as cold as my passenger side. Per the instructions of my usual mechanic, I did Stop Leak since he was on vacation & couldn't see me for awhile. The Stop Leak held for a few days but then went back to one side being room temp and the other being cold, then I decided to check out Chik's because it's close by where I live. I scheduled an appointment for diagnostic, was quoted $85. I went the next day for my appointment, explained to them what was happening with my car & what my mechanic said to do for the time being. After that, the lady refused to do a diagnostic & said "well now you need to replace your entire AC system." I asked why & she rudely said "because, it's a waste of time for us to a diagnostic, are you going to change your compressor? Are you going to change your adapter? It's a waste to change 1 part since you put stop leak, you need to change everything." I calmly told her that I would like a diagnostic done to know the ROOT OF THE PROBLEM, she said "that's a waste a of money." At that point, I'm pissed & tell her "WHO'S MONEY? My money? Don't worry about my money. It's not a waste if I want to run a diagnostic to know the problem of MY car." The whole time, her dumba** doesn't even get up on her seat to even LOOK at my car. Just continued giving her rude a** answers from the behind the computer. She continued to say it was a waste of money and I should replace the entire system. IF I NEVER LIKE FLY MY KEYS AT HER BECAUSE I WAS TRYING SO HARD TO BE NICE UNTIL SHE CAUGHT AN ATTITUDE!! She then tried to continue to push me to change the system & I rolled my eyes & told her I didn't want to do business with people who rip hardworking people off & left. Had she been nicer? I just picked up my car from Chik's Auto. From the time I called their shop, Cordette had been very helpful with the schedule to have my car towed to their shop because my car would not start despite putting in a new battery. A few minutes after my car was dropped off, Clint called to inform me that the alternator and the starter are good and that nothing wrong with the car. He said whoever installed the battery did not tighten it and did not put back the metal straps and bolts to hold it in place. And when I picked up my car, I wanted to pay but Clint said there was no charge. How honest was that? Clint and Cordette, you guys are AWESOME. First off, I searched on Yelp and found another ac repair shop (M_ _ _ 's AC) in Kalihi with excellent ratings. My ac no longer turned automatically when we start our car, and it was only blowing warm air. Took it to this shop and they held on to the car for 3 days and no work was done on it. So, I took it back and had to bring it back on another day. They said that I needed to change the compressor. After picking it up, the AC was only mildly cool, and it still would not turn on automatically when the car was started. Within a month, it was only blowing warm air again. I thought I would take it to another shop, so this time I took it to Lex B. I assumed that they had an expensive ac system tester to find out where the ac problems were. Had an appointment for 8:00 am and was called to pick it up at 4:00 pm. They stated that they added freon and that I would need to take it to the dealership to fix the ac automatic turn on. Again, it was semi-cold and by the next day it was blowing warm air again. Now being totally frustrated, I decided to try Chik's, they diagnosed my ac and said I had leaks in the front and rear evaporators. I needed it fixed before the summer heat, so we arranged to drop off the car in two days. They charged me a diagnostic fee which would be deducted if I had it fixed there. It was fair charge as they took time to do a detailed time-consuming evaluation. Now the AC is really cold, and it turns on automatically when I start the car. Chicks is the only shop that thoroughly checked my AC system. I am stunned as they were the only shop that really performed a thorough evaluation to identify the actual problem areas. While I feel frustrated wasting money at the first two shops, I feel that it is worth finding an excellent shop for ac and other services. I trust their skills and experience and applaud them on their quality work. read more

When I first called the lady was very friendly, asked questions to clarify the issue I was having, explained the pricing, and set up the appointment. When I pulled in the shop it was super clean!! There's just something to be said when an owner takes pride in his business that he also prides his work and you'll get good service. After a few hours I get the call about what they found in honestly more detail than I'm knowledgeable about, but after asking to skip to the overall price to fix it he told me and then told me his recommendation not to do it. I like an owner who isn't just trying to make money, but actually says it's not worth it and doesn't mind forgoing the real money in the replacement fix and accepts just the initial diagnostic fee. The lady on the phone was very patient as I browse through my calendar for available times. She was very thorough in proposing the time slots available on certain dates and advising on documents I should prepare for the appointment. Arrived first thing in the morning and the shop was already so busy with customers. I was asked to go to the side of the shop and to roll down my windows. The process was quick and simple; conduct lights and window wipers check. Due to COVID-19 measures, I stayed inside my car the whole time. This shop was recommended to me by a friend cause my AC wasn't working properly. I didn't want to go to Motor Imports, my usual car service shop, because of a rotten experience on my last visit but that's for another review. Appointment was made easily and they got to my car as promised. As it turns out, one of the cooling fans stopped working and the other fan was close to failing too because it was overloaded. The total bill came in under what they had estimated, a pleasant surprise!!! And unlike the other shop that I had a bad experience at, the diagnostic charge was applied to the total labor.
