As a parent, it can feel overwhelming and even a little embarrassing when your child is overdue for a dental appointment or may need extensive dental work. My children struggle with anxiety, and my 8-year-old daughter was especially nervous. The entire team was incredibly patient, compassionate, and understanding. They took the time to make her feel comfortable and never rushed her through the process. The dentist thoroughly explained everything to me, walked me through the recommended treatment plan, and answered all of my questions. Together, we were able to come up with the best approach for my daughter and schedule future appointments with confidence. Finding a pediatric dentist who is truly patient with anxious children can be challenging, but I am so grateful we found Hawaiʻi Pediatric Dentistry. The care, kindness, and professionalism we received made all the difference. We look forward to continuing our dental care here and highly recommend them to other families.

There could've been multiple reasons why I had swollen gums but it was all over my mouth. Not just in one area. I made an appointment and had Dr. Chad Arakaki. I sat down on the chair, they put the napkin around my neck and he came and asked me what was wrong, I told him my situation. I told him I just wanted him to look at it. He put his mirror in for one second and didnt even look at my gums and said I need a full exam which included xrays. I told him I would come back for thise but just wanted him to look at my gums. He didnt ask me any questions and just shut me off and charged me for the appointment! He could've been nicer. He could've asked, are there any changes to my routines, changes in toothpastes. These are things that cause swollen gums. NO! Nothing! Just come back for full exam and pay for this one! I take care of my teeth pretty well. I know it couldve been someone new I used. I just needed him to tell me all the causes of swollen gums.

I would have liked a more detailed explanation and options when it came to treatment plans though. Instead, the receptionist just printed a list of treatment with words I've never heard and weren't discussed (pulpotomy, resin composition 2 surf, etc). I assume it's just fancy words for filling or cavity but I'd like for it to have been explained. I would've also liked to have been provided options that spread out their treatment plans instead of being done all in one day with no payment plan. Dropping $1000 in a day for my 2 kids isn't something that I can easily do. The receptionist alone would get this place a 1 star review. She is unwelcoming, unhelpful, and just not a great presence to have as the first face for a company. There's a piece of clear plastic that separates the reception window and it's as though she purposefully speaks softly so that the clients have a hard time hearing. When asked to repeat herself, she almost lowers the volume of her voice. It's as comically rude as it is unhelpful. I saw this happen to multiple clients as well as to myself. She also is not there to be of any assistance to anyone. Questions about your bill? Better not have any. Questions about options? There is none. We showed up for our 2pm appt at 2:03 because the security guard routed us to the wrong building. However, that 3 minute delay somehow cost us to wait an additional 40 minutes before we could be seen. I mean, that's ridiculous! How do they do their schedule so that being late 3 minutes would result in a 40 minute wait? Or would we still have had to wait the 40 minutes if we were there 3 minutes earlier? In which case, having an appointment time is useless. Overall, would not recommend. The kids currently have a new dentist, which brought me back to finalizing this review. This all took place in 2024 so maybe there's a new receptionist and/or scheduling program in place.

I was recommended to him by my Cousin and all 3 of her children is a Patient here. My Son has been established since he was 2.5 years old. I highly recommend Aiea Pediatric Dental Center - easy to find located right across Pearlridge Shopping Center, with good parking stalls. Dr. Tom and his entire staff are amazing. They're so welcoming with us. I trust the work they do completely as they are meticulous and very efficient. Doctor and his hygienist are knowledgeable, takes the care to answer all my questions, and seems to enjoy their job and I love that. His office staff is accommodating and attentive. They return my call when I leave a Voicemail and Patient with rescheduling. They're super helpful, friendly, and very good at responding. The office space is very new, clean, and spacious.
