Picked up a to go order on the way Fleetwood Falls and was not disappointed. First time visit and the place was packed. Always try Carnitas on a visit to every New Mexican stop and these carnitas were excellent. Guacamole was great, corn tortillas were homemade and fantastic and the hot salsa was very good. We drove about 30 minutes to come back here for a second try because our first visit was decent--but unfortunately, this experience completely missed the mark. From the moment we walked in, the staff didn't feel welcoming or friendly. The service throughout our visit was rude and inattentive, which made the overall experience uncomfortable. The food was even more disappointing. Both the steak and chicken were served cold, and the rice was undercooked. Everything tasted like it had been microwaved rather than freshly prepared. On top of that, the area where we were seated was not clean--there was debris all over the floor, which made it hard to relax and enjoy the meal. Can't say enough good things about this restaurant. The food is great every time. The restaurant itself is a very clean homey place. But the best part is the staff. They are all so nice and friendly. We know that every time we come with our little baby, the one waitress will come steal him for a few moments. I have such a strong love for this place. I have celebrated milestones and birthdays. The only positive about the restaurant is that they were lightening fast. The salsa is just basically canned tomato sauce, the cheese sauce was watery. The guacamole was like powdered avocado and nothing else. I ordered the Arroz Con Pollo and it was basically chopped bits of chicken with the watery cheese sauce and rice. No onions, no mushrooms, no spices or seasonings of any kind. This was the most basic Mexican restaurant I've ever experienced. Friendly staff, fast service, bland and boring food. read more

We ordered takeout from this restaurant Friday night. My son went to pick it up. By mistake he was given a shrimp meal. He is deathly allergic to all shellfish. He can't even touch it. But he was hungry so he took it back. I called the restaurant and told them they had made a mistake that could have been deadly if he had gotten the shrimp on him. I explained why and he said he would reimburse us for the meal. Well my son came home and he said that they had not done it. So I called the restaurant manager and he was very rude to me. He said that he gave my son a free drink. That he was not going to give our money back. I told him that they needed to make it right because they could have killed my son. But he kept saying no. So I told him that I would sue him for negligence if they didn't make this right. So he said that he would do it. But so far he hasn't. I'm going to call him back in a few days and ask him about it. A very poor example of Mexican cuisine! My recent experience as I passed through N. Wilkesboro was far from satisfying! The chips/salsa was not bad, a little bite to the salsa was nice, but watery and stale chips kinda killed the experience. The homemade guacamole was disappointing, flavorless, and so chunky that it was hard to eat with chips. The fish tacos, that came as fried tilapia, was the strangest thing we ordered. The fish was ground up to the point that it looked like pork! It tasted like fish, looked like pork, but again was quite flavorless! Ordered carry out dinner last night, and it was absolutely amazing! My toddlers even ate their entire kids meal of ACP. They didn't have a kids ACP on the menu but they made a couple in kids size for us! We got 3 soft tacos, ACP, ACC, two kid size ACPs and some dips. Everything was bagged as ordered! Love this place! My family and I totally loved this place during our years in North Wilkesboro. In fact, we'd sometimes go here 2 or 3 times a week. I haven't eaten here in almost two years, but I can say that the service, menu/prices, and food definitely deserve all five stars. They also have really great lunch specials, and even in their most packed hours, the service is never lacking. I could easily walk in at noon, order, eat, pay, and vamoose in forty minutes or less. For shorter lunch breaks, they offer their full menu for take out, and calling ten or so minutes ahead is an easy, fast way to get your Mexican fix. This place used to be good...R.I.P chili verde, you use to be my favorite place to eat. Just left there and will never return. We had to flag down and ask for service after being seated for 15 minutes and didn't have drinks or chips and dip. When we did get the little service we got the salsa was terrible and we ordered a chori-queso which we had to remind the waitress to get and we were told the kitchen is very busy and didn't have it ready yet. At this point we saw three table walk out but again this was my favorite place so stupid me said, let's give them a chance. Wrong! My wife never got her food and the chori-queso came out with just chorizo no cheese.
