Our most recent experience was really good service wise and the food was delicious. If you've considered the omelets, but didn't know if they'd be worth it then just go ahead and try it and I don't think you'll be disappointed. You get enough food to share for sure. Our only consistent complaint is pricing inconsistency. We were charged $12 for 3 tacos instead of the $9.99 it said on the menu and we see similar issues pretty regular so just be mindful of what your ticket says prior to paying ! read more

Went here for dinner on a Saturday night. The place was busy but it's spacious and we were seated immediately. They had good drink specials, especially for a Saturday, but we did not partake. We were immediately served chips and salsa and soon after our waitress brought us waters. The menu was big with a wide variety of dishes. I was starving and ordered the chicken nachos. Alas, I scarfed them down without taking a picture. They had a good amount of chicken but the queso was quite runny. It slid right off the chips. We used to look forward to stopping here on our travels through Wilkesboro. The food used to be awesome and then something happened and for the past couple years the food has continued to get worse. I am 70+ and I can honestly say I had the worst meal today than I have ever had. If yo think that a taco salad would include crisp lettuce and vegetables that's not what you are going to get here. There was so much liquid runny cheese? and bean broth? and runny sour cream with a little soaked lettuce. No tomato or other vegetables that I could see or taste. Absolutely horrible and we paid over $27 for this sloppy mess that actually soaked through the taco shell. Will not go back. Tried to tell them and they told me to have a good day. read more

Our waitress was lovely, and while we went while they were a bit busy, not once did we feel like we were looked over. Stopped in here on a whim coming back from Boone. Not in the mood for fast food and Mexican food sounded good. We were seated promptly. Very nice physical plant. Plenty of booths and tables. The decor was welcoming and it was clean and tidy. Plenty of selections on the menu, something for everyone. Our server greeted us promptly and got our waters quickly. The chips and salsa were some of the best I've ever had. The salsa was rich in flavor with the right amount of spice. The chips were razor thin and crispy. So much thinner than the other Mexican places I've eaten at over the years. Don't pass these up. We both ordered ACP with beans and rice. The beans came with an up charge. The food came out quickly and it was very good. A very generous portion of chicken with an ample service long of both beans and rice. The cheese on the chicken was delicious with just a small bite of heat. Even the rice had a nice, subtle flavor to is. The beans were tasty as well. Our server was friendly and very efficient. 4/5 stars overall. I don't like the up charge for the beans. Beans are cheap, include them with the entree. But I do recommend this place. We love Plaza del Sol and always stop in when coming through town. The place is typically Mexican restaurant decorations but everything is in tip top shape and the inside is very modern. The staff were friendly and the place is always clean. For the food and drinks they have an expansive menus and very competitive prices. And the food always tastes great! We walked in and on the specials board was Birria! I was immediately excited. We ordered the table side guacamole which was super delicious and fresh and the waitress let us completely customize the amounts of what went in it. My tacos came out a little while after the rest of the food, and the waitress forgot to mention that so I was a little thrown off when the rest of the table had their food and I had none for about 5 minutes. But once my birria tacos were delivered to me, they were DELICIOUS. The meat was shredded as opposed to larger chunks (I prefer nicely shredded) and it was so tender. I also had little bowls of onion, cilantro, jalapeños, and consume and was able to make my tacos as I wanted! Overall, I had a great experience and thought the food was delicious!! I was in town for a bike race and it just happened to be Cinco de Mayo, so why not seek out some authentic food to enjoy the day. Their service was quick, efficient, and pleasnat; despite the big crowds inside. The chips and salsa were excellent and really reminded me of the taquerias I grew up with in Texas... just great memories of eating out with my grandmother. I had the ACP Texas that was on special and it was very good... the only reason for four stars instead of five was the rice. I just wasn't a fan and felt like it was overcooked. Ordered the plaza del sol dish from here. Ate one taco from this dish 2 days ago. Couldn't finish it because there was something iffy about the beef. My wife ordered the loaded baked potato with chorizo. It wasn't a baked potato but some burnt potato skins with a bunch of random toppings on it. Yesterday I started having stomach issues mainly diarrhea. Day two and it still has not agreed with my stomach. This place has low standards for their food and don't care. After the food was delivered the server never came back until we waited 15 minutes and I walked up to the checkout/host stand. Then I could see she noticed me up there and went over to my wife. I paid for the meal and explained the situation to the cashier and manager. I didn't have my ticket so the manager walked over to the table to see what we were eating, and instead of any apology or explanation I was just told my total. We were pleasantly surprised at the size and openness of the restaurant. Wait staff was very responsive and extremely nice. Lots of standard Mexican options and many seafood-related options- more than we normally see in Mexican restaurants. The food was really good as well! Plaza Del Sol was a pleasant surprise in comparison to many of the Mexican restaurants which I have eaten at previously. We went here tonight for dinner and were happily excited at the interior, generous portions, and wait staff. Upon entry, we were immediately seated and brought fresh chips and salsa. Our group was especially hungry, and a quick look around the dinning area revealed large portions an varieties of dishes. I ordered 5 enchiladas, which were served on large platter with lettuce and sour cream. One at our table ordered a California Burrito, which was huge and filled with all steak, onions, rice, beans, and avocados. There is a full service bar in the center of dinning area, with beer, wine, and hard alcohol available. Overall, the experience was good, the portions were generous, and it was clean and inviting. Excellent! I found this on Yelp as I was passing through Wilkesboro and I am so glad I stopped. Chips perfectly crispy, salsa very flavorful, and their spicy red sauce and green sauce were awesome. I got the lunch special #1 with a soft taco, chili relleno, beans and guacamole salad. Also delicious. They do not bread their chili relleno which I loved because I don't like them breaded. Ok good, TERRIBLE SERVICE. The food was decent, however, we were there on a Sunday evening, and it wasn't particularly busy. Food was served over the course of 35 minutes with one kid getting her food first then 20 minutes later 2 other dishes came out followed by the rest 10 min later. Two of the dishes came with tortillas that were not served until after I had to repeatedly ask. The tortillas were finally placed on the table about 2 minutes before the check was put out, well after the food had been eaten without since it was getting late. Never got refills on any drinks, it was atrocious. The table next to us sat down after we did and got all their food together and before we did (different server). Where to ever begin. If I could leave zero stars I would. Food and service were absolutely terrible! They screwed up basically every plate that arrived at the table. Had to ask multiple times for anything. Had a separate waitress walk up and chastise our group for supposedly snapping at our waitress. None of which was true. Had to walk around to find their manager after I asked to see him multiple time with multiple employees. His answer was not that they did anything wrong but that they were busy and that was acceptable. Large well laid out parking lot, even though crowded easy to find a decent spot. 6 Large handicapped spots up front. Large entrance and waiting area and it was needed. Wait wasn't long and gave time to review a somewhat complex menu. Seated in 10-15 minutes at 7PM which didn't seem bad. Took a few minutes to get drinks, then longer to get chips and salsa. Waitress was friendly, attentive but covered up with tables. Salsa was thin and runny, had a cocktail sauce flavor. Chips were a bit stale not much flavor. Switched to a verde sauce, while better flavor much runnier. Hard to eat runny salsas on chips. California burrito was huge, think of it as a giant fajita burrito. Plenty for two. Mine had shredded steak, onions, peppers, cheeses. Looked like it was soaked in a tasteless enchilada sauce. Edible and forgettable. Good value. My wife had a combination plate, taco, burrito, rice and beans. Taco melded to the plate from sitting in some the same enchilada sauce. Couldn't pick it up and eat. Meat was boiled and tasteless. Ordered 3 rellenos as side dish. Decent but still laying in that same sauce. Split a flan, not bad, need vanilla and no chocolate. Took a lot home. Will give them one more chance. read more

This restaurant is 5 starts when it comes to food; however, the service tonight was not great. Our waitress started off strong getting drinks from the bar in a timely manner. Then it's like she gave up completely, she didn't check back on us until we were done with our meal (even then we had to flag her down). Not to mention the fact we were missing an item entirely from our order but she was busy laughing with one of her "friends" rather than help customers. We flagged her down and asked for our bill to settle, she brought it sat it on the table and left. We sat patiently for 23 minutes waiting to see her to take the missing item we were charged for off our bill. I ended up calling the restaurant and asking if a manager could come to my table and help us. This was a great drop after a day spent on the Blue Ridge Parkway. Along with the ubiquitous chips and salsa, were a pair of sauces, one green (avocado), and the other white ('Mexican ranch', but sweeter). The avocado sauce had a nice, light bite to it. Where do I start... The ice tea had a burnt taste, and was not good. The beef tips in the taco salad visually resembled canned cat or dog food. I've never actually tasted cat food or dog food, but if I had to imagine what it taste like, this is it. Zero seasoning, and a very strange texture. There was hardly any lettuce, and the entire salad was swimming in was looked and tasted like old dirty water. Worst taco salad ever! Needless to say I sent it back, and I felt so sick to stomach that I lost my appetite. They did not make me pay for the salad- which is the best thing I can say about the experience. My husband said his deluxe burrito was not good either, the chicken was not seasoned and was just off. We had ordered a to go meal to be brought out when we were about to leave to take home to our son. After sending the taco salad back and not eating it, and my husband only finishing about half of his meal, we told them never mind on the to go item because we don't want to take our son food that tasted anything like this. The waitress said no problem. Then a person, who I assumed was the manager came over with the to go item anyway and said you have to take it because none of us are going to eat it and it cost us money. We told him we didn't want it because all the food up to this point was not good, and he said, "it's a different dish- not the same as what you don't like. You have to take it." We didn't want to argue, so we went ahead and paid for it and took it. Luckily, we have three dogs at home, so if it's as bad as our food was, maybe we'll let them taste it- but even that may not be a good idea. The cerviche du camerones is my absolute favorite! Chopped cooked shrimp combined with chopped tomatoes, cucumber, red onion, avocado slices, cilantro and covered with lime juice!
