    Southwestern Queso...omg, thick and nasty!
    Brenda G.

Pick up order for fajitas for 2. Chicken & shrimp. Chicken was cold, dry, old, tough & no taste. Shrimp were tiny with that same chili pepper taste. The veg. were onions and green pepper - ratio 2 whole onions to 1 small green pepper maybe. The Rice was cold, hard and the whole plate taste of the same chili spice. Totally nasty and surely not worth the money. My daughter got Queso and it was thick, old & nasty as well. The blk bean soup was the only decent taste but we don't like blk beans! We did order late 7:53pm as If the food had been sitting all day...Nasty!! 4-5 hours later my stomach cramped really bad. Check -# 980102 web order. Expected call back.

I wish I could give the restaurant a higher rating. There was a smell of a dirty wash towel that wafted up every so often. I must say the appetizers were very good. My pasta was disappointing. My son and daughter seemed to enjoy their food. I would definitely order the appetizer to go, but that's about it.

    Watermelon Lemonade

I have been wanting to try this restaurant for months now and every time I was in Lexington something always came up to keep me from being able to eat here. Finally, this past Monday I was able to finally try chili's. The establishment was clean and staff was friendly. Turns out the waitress was actually from my hometown. Price was like any other restaurant. I ordered the triple dipper with the small bites, chicken tenders and mozzarella sticks with the watermelon lemonade to drink. I really liked the lemonade, ended up drinking 2 mugs. I enjoyed the mozzarella sticks, I love cheese and these are the biggest and cheesiest one's I have ever tried. The small bites were delicious and had a great flavor. My least favorite is the chicken tenders. I thought they were ok. Overall I enjoyed eating here.

    Shark Week margarita
Looking Out For The City ..

So I was in search of Shark Week promotional food and drink and someone on a facebook post about Shark Week stated that Chili's was having a margarita one. This is when I decided to go to Chili's to check it out. It is described as "...made with Lunazul® Blanco Tequila, Malibu® Coconut Rum, Monin® Blue Raspberry, a float of Monin® Blackberry, and Fresh Sour." When I got there, I was surprised to see that, I think the state of KY, requires one to order a food item with a margarita. Then I started thinking back to my days of going to Taco Tico and they had that same mandate. It is crazy how Rally's and Sonic are not doing anything for Shark Week, since they had drinks in the past. Golden Corral (you can read that review) has gone two for two years of not either serving the drink (last year and it was still during Shark Week, mind you) or being out of the blue raspberry slushie required to make it. Edit: I am now drinking it and it is TASTY. The combination of all the liquor comes off as a sweet, smooth taste. Well done!

Southern Cookhouse features scratch-made dishes using local ingredients, a variety of burgers, pizzas, and classic Southern entrees. I started with the Chicken & Sausage Gumbo because I love soup and all soup-adjacent things. The gumbo had a good, rich flavor from the roux, with subtle heat and a sweet finish. The chicken had a nice flavor, a little saltiness, and it was tender. The Andouille sausage was cooked well and rounded out the flavor profile. The tomatoes and scallions added brightness and crunch. The rice had a few hard pieces, but overall it was good. I do want to mention that I did find a few chicken bones in the dish, just so people are aware. My wife tried the Dunwoody Cobb, made with Grilled chicken breast, boiled eggs, bacon, avocado, tomato, and blue cheese crumbles, with spring mix tossed in Dijon vinaigrette. The lettuce was crunchy and fresh. The bacon had a great salt level, crunch, and crispiness. The avocado added a creamy richness to each bite, while the tomato's acidity cut through the Dijon mustard's sweet and bitter notes. The star of the show was the salty, nutty, creamy blue cheese crumbles, which meshed well with all the other components. The chicken was cooked well and had good flavor, but it was dry. While I avoided it, my wife said the boiled egg was well-cooked and added it to the salad. I had the Nashville Hot chicken, which comes with spicy pickles, coleslaw & mayo on slider rolls with potato salad. The potato salad was mustard-and-mayo-based. The potatoes were soft but still offered some texture. The mustard and mayo balanced each other and added flavor. There were eggs in the potato salad, but they blended into the background and did not stand out. The sweet pickle relish added crunch and texture without being overly sweet. I'm not sure if it was made in-house or from a container; it was good nonetheless. The slider was fresh, soft, and nicely toasted. The slaw was medium-chopped, with a great mayo ratio and a good sweetness, tasting fresh, crunchy, and creamy without being so rich as to drown out the vegetables or the chicken. The pickle was not spicy, but a thick-cut bread-and-butter type with a little sweetness and a velvety, buttery flavor. The chicken was juicy, tender, and cooked well. The Nashville-style spices were mild to medium, just enough to know it was there but not so overpowering that it was all you tasted. It was not overly oily either, which often plagues sandwiches of this type. The entire sandwich worked well together. Southern Cookhouse has a full menu, but some items do rotate or are seasonal. The bar is fully stocked, offering draft beer, tea, and soft drinks. They offer counter ordering, and the staff is very friendly. The Fat Man says that Southern Cookhouse & Bar is Fat Man Approved with 2 chins.
