This is my favorite spot in Suffern! They have great comfort food with a decent selection of options. I'm always happy to stop by when I'm visiting home. Visited Chilitos during a break during wedding festivities at the nearby Sheraton in Mahwah. We were craving some good Mexican food and found this hole in the wall restaurant less than ten minutes away. - Service: The service was the best part of our experience. This was a very small restaurant that seemed family owned, and the staff (presumably the mother and son) were kind and very nice. The young waiter who served us was very pleasant and always prompt in getting what we ordered. - Food: The food here was reasonable. We started off with complimentary chips and a tasty salsa. We ordered Guacamole ($6) as the appetizer and I ordered the Cheese Enchiladas with a side of Rice and Beans ($10). The guacamole was good, nothing special but still tasty and delicious. Unfortunately the enchiladas weren't as good, however I did enjoy the rice and beans. The cheese enchiladas had a solid piece of cheese (kind of like string cheese) rather than the melted cheese I'm used to at most Mexican restaurants. It was also bland and not very flavorful. I really wanted to like this restaurant but sadly I was highly disappointed. Though I received great service yesterday but the food was sub par. I ordered the, "Taco Supremo", and it was probably the blandest dish I had ever had at a Mexican restaurant. The tacos were extremely small, had a few pieces of meat on it, ton of lettuce and tomatoes; and lacked flavor. The vegetable rice that came with the dish was ok and probably the best part of my meal. The retried beans were disgusting and seemed a bit old and semi spoil. Wow! I am always skeptical of trying Mexican food outside of NYC or the west coast and definitely didn't think much of this place first walking in. But I was blown away! Their fish tacos, rice and beans, guacamole, some specialty pork dish, and carne asada were all delicious, well seasoned, huge portions, inexpensive, and overall a win. their home made salsas were SLAMMIN and the staff was so sweet, attentive, and lovely. Stopped here while on a road trip because of yelp recommendations. I am so glad I did! I was a bit difficult, knowing that three enchiladas would put me to sleep on the road, so I asked for a platter with just one enchilada (pork with mole). After some discussion, they decided to let me do it and I ended up getting delicious food for a reasonable price. Very friendly from the moment I ordered over the phone to when I left after pick up. Main points: - If you're looking for a big fat-ass burrito this may not be the place for you... The burrito was a good size but not huge by any means. When you order a burrito it does come with rice and re-fried beans on the side (more of a platter than a single item). Great burrito, chicken was awesome but minimalist with just whatever meat you order, lettuce, and guac inside. - Got a side of guacamole and oh boy was that the ride decision! SO creamy and the chips were very fresh, seemed house made (can't verify that though). - HOT sauce was HOT. I like spicy and even their salsa verde was on the spicy side. If you don't like spicy stay away from either. The salsa roja was even hotter but both are aboslutely delicious. Again, I like heat so I was very happy sitting there with my nose dripping and forehead sweating but even by my standards it was hot, not "very hot" but def. not just "kind of hot" either. Def. going back and trying other items aside from just the burritos. It's small inside and street parking can be annoying in Suffern on the weekends but def. a great spot to grab a bite even if you're in a bit of a hurry. From the outside, this place is a dive. It looks like any of the takeout shops in Suffern but the food is anything but ordinary. The people inside are so sweet and welcoming, they make you feel like you're at a relative's house. The food is delicious and restrained, like a previous poster said, they're not drowning everything in cheese. The enchiladas, by far are my favorite dish. I can never choose between the delectable green or red salsas so I always get it 'Christmas' style with both. We always get takeout since the place itself is fairly small and lacks ambiance. The chicken flautas are my favorite item, but the burritos are excellent too. I love that the food is actually authentic, not an Americanized version of Mexican food. The horchata is delicious, and the prices are reasonable for the quantity and quality of food. My friend ordered a chimichanga it wasn't deep fried but it was overstuffed with chicken and cheese small amount of guacamole was on the side; the pork chop (don't remember the exact name) pictured was so perfectly seasoned lightly sweet, thin and slightly charred. Don't be put off by the unassuming atmosphere. Yes, it's a hole in the wall, but the food here is AMAZING. Some of the best Mexican food I've had. The sauces are exquisite. Everything is made from scratch. I highly recommend the mole in particular - I don't think I've ever had better. Service is friendly but on the slow side. On the other hand, they're not rushing you out the door either. You won't find any mariachi band here or food slopped on a plate covered with cheese. This is the real deal. Had food delivered to our house. Both went with burritos, mine beef. Burrito was fantastic. Rice and beans were separated from the wrap which I prefer. Inside was well cooked and not greasy beef, lettuce and avocado. They were oversized but just right to fill up and finishing the side of rice and beans. For $10 delivered right to your door, its great value and very satisfying. Our new go-to place when craving Mexican food after a long day of work. read more

I've been a customer of the resturuant for some time now usually I don't have any issues when I order food for delivery but recently the last three times I've called to order food they tell me they cont have delivery today Although the menu that I have in my hand says in big letters WE DELIVER. Chicken is the best protein; the steak and pork chop are certainly tasty but can be a little too done for some. As long as you don't expect overly salted and overly seasoned food, you'll be satisfied. A+++ In my book. All the authenticity you are looking for from a "hole in the wall" Mexican joint. First thing is the heaping pile of chips and delicious salsa. Second was the chicken tacos, served just they way they are supposed to; topped with onions and cilantro on a soft corn tortilla. They give you two sauces for your tacos, one which is pico de gallo (not the tomato onion mixture), but an almost creamy cilantro lime sauce, and another sauce which is orange and tasted like pure heat. I tried them both; again, delicious! The place wasn't busy (we were the only patrons), so the service was good. I was very happy with my overall experience. Food was not that great. Enchiladas were awful just had a stick of mozzarella cheese and not even hot. Very over priced food. Wouldn't make my burrito the way I wanted and basically got a deconstructed burrito on a plate. Plantains were smushy and just greasy balls of oil.
