Cheese Enchiladas with a side of Rice and Beans ($10). Would skip the enchiladas.
    Amit J.

Visited Chilitos during a break during wedding festivities at the nearby Sheraton in Mahwah. We were craving some good Mexican food and found this hole in the wall restaurant less than ten minutes away. - Service: The service was the best part of our experience. This was a very small restaurant that seemed family owned, and the staff (presumably the mother and son) were kind and very nice. The young waiter who served us was very pleasant and always prompt in getting what we ordered. - Food: The food here was reasonable. We started off with complimentary chips and a tasty salsa. We ordered Guacamole ($6) as the appetizer and I ordered the Cheese Enchiladas with a side of Rice and Beans ($10). The guacamole was good, nothing special but still tasty and delicious. Unfortunately the enchiladas weren't as good, however I did enjoy the rice and beans. The cheese enchiladas had a solid piece of cheese (kind of like string cheese) rather than the melted cheese I'm used to at most Mexican restaurants. It was also bland and not very flavorful. Seemed like a nice place to hang out over some chips and appetizers, not very sure about the entrees.

I really wanted to like this restaurant but sadly I was highly disappointed. Though I received great service yesterday but the food was sub par. I ordered the, "Taco Supremo", and it was probably the blandest dish I had ever had at a Mexican restaurant. The tacos were extremely small, had a few pieces of meat on it, ton of lettuce and tomatoes; and lacked flavor. The vegetable rice that came with the dish was ok and probably the best part of my meal. The retried beans were disgusting and seemed a bit old and semi spoil. The only positive part about my dish was the service which was great but the food was mediocre and flavorless.

    View from the street.

Stopped here while on a road trip because of yelp recommendations. I am so glad I did! I was a bit difficult, knowing that three enchiladas would put me to sleep on the road, so I asked for a platter with just one enchilada (pork with mole). After some discussion, they decided to let me do it and I ended up getting delicious food for a reasonable price. The mole was a little too sweet and would have been very good with more chili, but it was so good I'm afraid to complain! Don't change!

Best chorizo tacos in Suffern. Small place but the execution is always flawless. Very good shrimp ceviche and guacamole.

I will copy and paste this review across the Park Ridge and Mahwah locations so emphasize my appreciate for their consistency in providing great Mexican food. If you are consistently performing, Linguini will take care of you. Like I've taken care of many others. I will bring you to the top with me. If you backstab me. Oh if you come for me at the top, you will reach an abyss so deep you may end up digging to China. Don't test me. I'm not that guy. Anyways, I've tried a lot from Azteca. Most of what they've got is a 4/4.5 out of 5 but I'm rounding up for the full experience. Phenomenal price point. Variety of food that all comes out well. Performs well in restaurant and when the food travels. Friendly staff. And local business of which I support. I suffer from GGS - Good Guy Syndrome, sorry not sorry. My motha, bless her soul. I legit mean bless her soul. Be nice. Pray. Bow down to her. She doesn't eat much food but she even loved the taco salad here so much that she asked to go again. So much protein, so well seasoned. Just as their other options showcase as well. My personal favs are the Kash Burrito and the, what I'd call "trademark" Cod Burrito. Never have seen it elsewhere like this. The wrap is toasted wonderfully, great rice, great salsa. I mean this place just does it real well. I've had tacos, appetizers, desserts. Never let down. El Azteca is consistently good. Constantly pushing out quality product. Is it the best Mexican I've had? No. But it's the most underrated. Being a consistent 4, makes you a five in my books. It's like that girl that's occasionally a 6 or occasionally an 9... you can't bring her home. But that girl that's consistently a 7 or an 8? You let her meet the fam. I don't where I'm going with this one. All I'll say is STOP. Stop going to Chipotle, Bubbakoo's, etc. when you could be supporting a better quality and friendlier priced location in El Azteca. Thank you in advance. I will be watching - LB.

I took the train up one day, but unfortunately I didn't revisit the town for another 17 years. My Mexican House was a random stop that turned out to be great. I've always been into tacos and in recent years gained a nearly dangerous fascination with cemitas, and a result I may have missed out on many great Mexican entrees over the years. In the chuleta a la diabla, the pork chops were perfectly done and the sauce was an awesome incendiary concoction somewhat like mole. The chips were warm and fresh, the salsa was zingy and the service was outstanding.

We immediately ordered four margaritas, which were good, just not the best ones I've ever had. For appetizers we all split the cheese empanadas, which were actually pretty amazing in my opinion. The portions were pretty generous, so all of us were able to have about 1.5 empanadas. The empanadas were served with red and green sauce, the red sauce is SPICY so be aware! For main course, I ordered the vegetarian chimichanga which I LOVED. It was so good and it tasted freshly made. Overall, was very happy with my experience here. Its not the fanciest restaurant but it was perfect for national margarita day!

But the food needs work , the chips and salsa were good , we ordered the fresh made guacamole made at the table was also good but ,Missing seasoning, lime juice and some type of chopped cilantro. The Mexican rice was bland , tasteless no sofrito and , missing seasoning the refried beans were ok ..My wife didn't like the taco salad it had cucumbers something you never put in a taco salad even the tomato slices were thick cut , she only liked the shell Lol.My son in-laws fried fish was good he liked it , and my sons chimichanga were also taste less compared to many others he has had elsewhere. The food is still great. We had scallops, chorizo, brussels sprouts, and a flounder ceviche special. Everything was delicious. The ceviche in particular stood out -- fresh, well-portioned, and nicely "cooked" in lime juice. The sangria is still a highlight too. A big carafe, no ice watering it down, served with glasses full of fruit. The problem is the service. They had two servers and one bus person, and it showed. Everyone seemed to be scrambling, and it was hard to get a moment of attention to ask for anything or even be heard. Our food came out in pieces -- three items, then a long delay, then another. The last dish, calamari, never came. When I tried to tell the waiter we didn't want it anymore if it was forgotten, he didn't listen and insisted on bringing it anyway. We ended up waiting even longer, which just made the experience more frustrating. To top it off, they're now adding an operating/service fee (around 3-4%), which wasn't clearly communicated and just showed up on the bill. It's disappointing because the food is still very good, but the service issues -- and now the added fees -- are taking away from the experience. After this visit, we'll think twice before coming back.
