I took the train up one day, but unfortunately I didn't revisit the town for another 17 years. My Mexican House was a random stop that turned out to be great. I've always been into tacos and in recent years gained a nearly dangerous fascination with cemitas, and a result I may have missed out on many great Mexican entrees over the years. In the chuleta a la diabla, the pork chops were perfectly done and the sauce was an awesome incendiary concoction somewhat like mole. Came here with a group of friends on National Margarita Day!! We were promptly seated as the restaurant was empty on a Saturday night. We immediately ordered four margaritas, which were good, just not the best ones I've ever had. For appetizers we all split the cheese empanadas, which were actually pretty amazing in my opinion. The portions were pretty generous, so all of us were able to have about 1.5 empanadas. The empanadas were served with red and green sauce, the red sauce is SPICY so be aware! For main course, I ordered the vegetarian chimichanga which I LOVED. It was so good and it tasted freshly made. Overall, was very happy with my experience here. Really enjoyed my visit to My Mexican House! Met up with a friend here who lives a bit far and it was worth the drive (about 45 minutes). Although a pitcher of the spicy margaritas were not listed on the menu, our waiter Eddie was more than happy to make us one. We expressed that most places don't spice up the margaritas well so he added a little extra jalapeno and some other spicy peppers too. He also added a certain spice with the salt rim to make it tasty too. Overall, I was very happy with the drink. I believe it was $34-36 for the pitcher and equaled to about 5-6 glasses which is great to share. I ordered the chorizo quesadillas which was served with refried beans, rice, sour cream, pico de gallo and a small side of guacamole (at no additional cost). I tried chorizo for the first time. I thought it was good but I would probably order chicken next time. I also don't normally have refried beans but I thought they were very flavorful. The meal was a good portion and filling. Who would've thought this hole in the wall with my grandmothers table clothes would be such an excellent dinner. The nachos are out of this world with crave worthy shredded chicken. Fantastic homemade salsa, grilled fish, empanadas, tacos with soft corn tortillas all homemade by the grandmother in the kitchen. They deliver which is music to my ears. The only negative would be the service. Our server didn't speak any English so Even though I pointed to the shrimp dish I wanted I received the wrong one. Very disappointed. With a 4+ star rating we expected much better. Took 15 minutes to get water and chips. (Only 4 tables occupied)The chips were thick and overcooked. I had shrimp quesadillas: plenty of shrimp but cheese was thick and unmelted with not much seasoning. As always, I remind you that my ratings are based on the type of restaurant. I am giving My Mexican House five stars based on it being an inexpensive casual restaurant. I am not comparing it to a Michelin rated destination. If I did that it would receive fewer stars, but I don't think that is how most Yelp reviews are done. Walking into the restaurant, one is not particularly impressed. Towards the back, there is a small bar. Tables and seating are more or less 1960s luncheonette. However, the service is good, the prices are unbelievably cheap, and the food is far superior to Ole Ole. You can't miss the guacamole. This is the one non-inexpensive item at $7. However, it is freshly made, chunky, and delicious. They put out delicious salsa, with a kick, but not too spicy, as well. My wife and I both had steak dishes. They try some original things. I had a chipotle and cream sauce steak, which was very different, but quite good. My wife also had a steak dish, which was delicious. The portions are large and we did not have room for dessert. The menu is lengthy and I look forward to return trips. They appear to focus on more authentic Mexican fare, beyond the TexMex stuff purveyed all over the metro area, although you can certainly get that here. read more

It's finally time for a review. My Mexican House is the best Mexican restaurant in Suffern. Of the half-dozen or so mexican places, My Mexican House offers a great mix of the expected and unexpected. Starting off with the chips and salsa, the chips are house fried, and the salsa is great with nice pieces of diced onion, cilantro, and a hint of vinegar! Delicious! There are the usual tacos, burritos and enchiladas, but also huaraches. Enchiladas are served two ways... either 5(!) enchiladas covered in lettuce, crema and avocado, or 3 enchiladas with rice & beans. Interestingly, they're listed under 'Appertivos.' Try the molé. It's great! I'll often order the nachos as an entree. Just the right size for a meal, and also covered with a nice portion of guacamole. Despite what a few others have said, it's very easy to get a vegetarian meal here. Mexican beers, sodas and 'too sweet' margaritas are available. Service is friendly, though sometimes distracted. There's piped-in mexican music. The only thing missing is customers!!! Where is everyone? Hacienda? Limon y Sal? ¿Por que? They're not as good! This is a strong 4-1/2 stars! read more

The food was very yummy! It definitely hit the spot, and the portions were generous. I am not a local and wasn't sure where to eat but was craving Mexican. The Yelp reviews looked promising, the pictures of the food looked delicious, and we were able to have it delivered to our hotel through Seamless, so we went for it.
