I would give it 3.5 stars if I could give half stars. I don't know how it gets such rave reviews for the ice cream. We tried three flavors and two were super grainy. What's up with that?!? The mint chocolate chip and the moose tracks were both grainy. We don't usually have any ice cream leftover but we did not finish the ice cream. The half extra start would be for the service. The guy was super friendly! And the portions are definitely HUGE (that could also be why we didn't finish all of it. ). I think those two things were good about this place. Great place to grab some ice cream in downtown Juneau! I came here with my siblings when we were docked here on our cruise. We were craving something sweet after our lunch and this place was perfect! I got the one scoop of Beach Bomber (Fruity pebbles with pop rocks) and it was delicious! I personally thought that the one scoop was pretty big, but then again, I was still a little full from my lunch, but nonetheless, the ice cream was delicious and hit the spot. The server was also very friendly and attentive. I think he was also scooping the ice cream as well as being the cashier, and we didn't mind the wait at all! this is one of the only ice cream places in juneau, and it's located in the blue building close to where the cruise ships dock! unfortunately, when bf and i went, they had a few flavors out of stock. i kept seeing these totem pole cones and found out that chilkat offers them, but it wasn't on the menu or display case when we went. ice cream was delicious and there tends to be a big line around dinner time too. also because they were so busy, they ran out of ice cream the next day. but i got the moose tracks and bf got the cookies and cream, which were very yummy. our tour guide at the glacier gardens rainforest adventure highly recommends this place because they have the best ice cream, and we were glad that we went to try chilkat! read more

Walked by here for the first time in the winter and it was pretty dead. The other night I was eating dinner next door and kept seeing people walk out with ice cream. Walked in and tried a few samples of the Moose Tracks and the cotton candy (yes, they do give put samples). But, I didn't order anything due to being so full. Just to scope it out. Came back tonight on a sunny night and to walk around downtown. Fun music, colorful lights, and they do take cards (despite the sign saying cash only). Huckleberry, cap n crunch, cookies and cream, cookie dough, and a few others. I got the Moose Tracks. $3 for a cup, which isn't bad. They really pack it in there. Chilkat Cove serves the best ice cream in town! Come on in with friends or family or by yourself. All the workers there are really friendly. They got a great selection of flavors. My favorite is the beach bomber (which is a must try). Anyways, if you don't know which one to get, they hook it up with samples, to narrow down on which flavor you want. You can get your ice cream in a cup or in a cone, your choice. They serve milkshakes and smoothies too. And they got other sweet treats to satisfy your sweet tooth! read more

Mostly giving this place three stars for the service we received. The girl and guy who were working didn't treat us the way I feel like you should treat a customer. They raised their voices a lot with instructions about where to be and how to order, kind of pushy in asking us what samples we wanted when one in our group said he didn't want any samples. When we asked if they had a certain flavor they seemed to answer in a way that was like "uhhh no why would we?" Also, they put "Cash Only" on their door, but don't let that fool you because we paid with card. They said it is for crowd control. The ice cream was decent--they shove a lot in the little cup you get, that is a plus. There's an all right variety of flavor but not some classics like cookies and cream. Overall, good ice cream, super small location and sub par service. Don't think I would come back. read more

I don't know how many times I've tries to go but they are always closed, even when the sign on their window says they should be open. I don't support businesses that can't even stick to their promised hours. They may have good icecream but you can rarely ever get it. read more

Chilkat Cove looks like a grimy hole in the wall and is uncomfortably hot inside during the summer, but it has some shockingly good ice cream at rock-bottom prices. Also, the service was friendly and efficient. Some of the ice cream (notably, the praline) is a bit far on the sweet side, but is still good. The latte ice cream would have been disappointingly milky for coffee, but since it was marketed as latte, it can't really be criticized for that. I make a lot of ice cream myself and can make it better than most ice cream shops, but I would have had a hard time making a lemon meringue ice cream as subtly flavorful as what Chillkat Cove serves and have no hope of competing with its elderberry. With fruit ice cream being essentially the most difficult type to make and Chillkat Cove nailing it, the 5 stars are well-earned, especially at $3 per scoop. read more
