    Mushroom risotto
    Sheryl S.

I liked the vibe and service but wasn't a fan of the mushroom risotto special I ordered. It was just a bit bland and watery, nothing standout or exciting. It also tasted exactly like my mom's arroz caldo (Filipino rice dish). Lesson learned- getting pasta next time! Forgot what my husband ordered but the appetizers - bread and brussel sprouts - were good.

The food and service here is fantastic! It's a spot locals want to keep for themselves, it's limited seating and needs dinner reservations. Well worth it!

    Fettuccine with dark chicken meat

This restaurant has the foundation to be great, with a real woodfire oven and handmade pasta, but lacks proper management. I recall the salads were great, this included a Caesars with the right amount of garlic and I can be a terrible snob when it comes to Caesars dressing. The pasta didn't fare so well. The fettuccine Alfredo were served with dark chicken meat, which came unexpected and was sent back. The replacement order, pizza with pepperoni was ok. I had pasta with cream sauce and smoked salmon. The fishy salmon taste ruined it. Fishyness is a sign for 'not fresh' and that raises concerns. So did the dark chicken meat, which had a potent taste. Ambiance was lively and, based on the astronomically high rating here, we may have caught a bad day unless something else is going on in these reviews. Juneau, after all, is a tourist town and businesses are all competing. Service was fine. Of note, they do not have a bar and serve beer and wine.

The actual amount of lemonade after the solid iceberg was extracted.

I will preface this by saying I am very into steak, I usually cook steak at least once a week, and I have a lot of experience with butchering cows and cooking every part, so I know exactly what every cut is and how it should be cooked. I have been here once a couple years ago and liked it. Two things stood out as excellent. One was the $45 ribeye my friend got and shared a bite with me, the other was the "Thunderdome" we saw brought to the adjacent table. This year my friends were back in town for my birthday and we decided a couple months ahead of time to go here and booked way ahead. When our drinks came out, mine was okay, but both of my friends were having trouble drinking their lemonade because it was blocked by a solid chunk of ice in the cup. They used silverware to extricate the glaciers (pictured) and discovered that their cups were barely a third full. They brought it up with the waitress, who informed us that it was "policy" and she would go ask her manager, who apparently agreed. We had to try the thunderdome as well. We remembered from last time seeing this big puffed up, toasted, steaming thing brought out and wanting it. Instead what came out was a mostly deflated, cooled, squarish pizza skin. It was still delicious, so I won't give them too much grief over it. Lastly was the main course. I ordered the Ribeye steak, which had gone up from $45 to $52 since the last time, cooked medium rare. I had high expectations for such an expensive steak. When the steak came out it looked amazing, presentation and plating were on point, however I quickly noticed that my $52 "ribeye" had no rib cap and was also not shaped like a ribeye at all. I was surprised but figured it must be pretty high quality anyways. When I went to cut some pieces off for my friends I immediately noticed that it was as tough as an eye of round. I could press a fork in and it would push the steak down half the thickness without penetrating, without even lightly sticking, like trying to stick a fork into a tire! I sliced off some pieces and immediately noticed that the grain was going almost completely diagonal, corner to corner. There was also a tendon end running through it, not just silverskin, but the thickened silverskin/tendon you see where tendons join with connective tissue. I tried a bite and had to chew like it was beef jerky, immediately getting fibers stuck between all my bottom teeth. I wasn't sure what to do because I had already given a lot of my steak to my friends and between all of our bites we had eaten close to half of it. My friends urged me to complain, which I did but I am very bad with confrontation so I had trouble articulating what was wrong. I will give the one guy who came over credit, he was extremely understanding and took it back and took it off our bill. I refused any substitutions because I was very nervous and it makes me lose my appetite. I will also say that all the other dishes were great so it does warrant a solid 3 stars. I won't say this will be my last time, as I have had 1 star experiences at both the Hangar and Island Pub, and both have been redeemed to 5 star in subsequent visits. All in all, just stick to the main menu and you will have a good, if overpriced, meal.

In Bocca is one of my favorite restaurants in town. It is clean, the food is delicious, and there is excellent service every time I come. It is a bit pricey, but the food is great. I've come here about once a month with my husband, some coworkers or friends. Highly recommend to make a reservation though. It gets really busy, not super loud, but they only open in the evenings. If not, you will be sitting at the bar stools. Literally everything I've tried here has been tasty. For appetizers, the thunder dome is very exciting because it is a huge bread dome, as the name states. I also love the Cesar salad (I know, a salad is super basic but it really is one of the best salads I've ever had). I am not even a crouton fan but the way they make it is soo good. You gotta try it at least once! For main dishes, all the pasta dishes are pretty solid. It tastes like they made it all of it by hand. My other favorite thing to get is the Steak Jillian, which is surf n' turf with a flavorful green sauce. The desserts are also great. It sucks they change every now and then, I wish they always had the ube panna cotta. But my favorite dessert is probably the lemon tart. Not too sweet and not too sour, and the crust is perfect. I'd eat it every day if I could. I will keep coming back here!

Perfection! My husband and I knew we wanted to get a meal in here before we got back on our cruise ship. We got: the shrub of the day (watermelon basil), the thunderdome (which is what brought us to the restaurant), the valley pizza and the meatballs. The service was great, the atmosphere was wonderful and the food was excellent. The drink was so delicious. The meatballs were the right consistency and a great flavor, and the sauce that was on them was delicious as well. The pizza was well topped and well baked, and the flavor was wonderful. And the thunderdome was so fun! It was hot, fresh and delicious as was the dipping sauce. It could have used a pinch of salt but other than that no complaints. Highly recommended!

What a gem to have in Juneau! I believe this used to be the site of Silver Bow Bagels but now it's been tranformed into an Italian centric, pasta and pizza restaurant. Much press on this place as the chef is a James Beard nominated finalist for best chef in the Northwest this year (2024). Stuff tried: Thunderdome: do not sleep on this! What I gather to be the same dough as their pizza, this puffy dome of bread is served with is basically with an enormous pile of cloud like fluffy butter. Carby heaven! Meatballs: hefty portion sprinkled with cheese. Pro-tip, make a meatball sando by folding the meatball into some of that thunderdome bread! Steak Jillian: one of tonight's specials. Boneless rib eye topped with shrimp scampi and scampi sauce. Very rich! Surf and turf. Very nice and cozy atmosphere with a staff that is very friendly. Next time I will try the pizzas which all looked amazing. I don't think you can go wrong with anything you order here.

Their special Ribeye Jillian cooked medium rare

Awesome food. The special was Ribeye Jillian and the sauce was exquisite. When I asked for bread, they brought some. They forgot my beer to have before dinner but remembered my Cabernet.

    Perfect Caesar Salad

Let me set the scene: Juneau, Alaska. Crisp air, breathtaking views, and nestled among it all--In Bocca Al Lupo, where your taste buds go on vacation and never want to come home. We opened strong with the Caesar salad, featuring lettuce so fresh I'm convinced it was DJ Jazzy Jeff's new partner. The dressing was light and creamy, and the croutons? Crunchy enough to wake your ancestors, but packed with flavor. A salad that slaps--emotionally and spiritually. Then came the Thunderdome. A name that says "get ready," and oh, were we not ready. Imagine a puffed-up pizza dough balloon smothered in garlic, herbs, and parmesan, served with whipped butter so airy it's probably legally classified as a cloud. We broke into it before taking a photo of it whole. Zero regrets. Total flavor anarchy. For the main act, I had the Ritz Cracker crusted halibut over potato purée with a green crab sauce so smooth it could host late-night radio, you know, with that Barry White voice. The fish flaked apart like it was politely excusing itself from the plate. I'm not exaggerating when I say this was the best halibut I've ever had. My wife had the spicy noodles with scallops--those scallops were on point, and complimented the noodles like they were on a first date. Speaking of noodles, perfectly al dente. Not too soft, not too firm, Goldilocks would've wept. The vibe is hip, great music and lots of smiling faces. I kind of wished I was ten years younger and seventeen times cooler so I would fit in more, but the food was sexy enough to make up for any lack of youthful glow. Oh, and by the way--the chef is a James Beard Award winner. So yeah, you're not just eating dinner. You're experiencing edible greatness curated by culinary royalty. In short: if you're in Juneau and skip this place, I hope you stub your toe gently but repeatedly.

First time in, as with most places in Juneau, few good reviews, few bad ones. They made it through…read morea whole year so figured it was time. -First thing I noticed was menu online was outdated. The new menu, same items but one year later, and now all items are $2 more. Not sure how that works since prices were already high, but it was just something I noticed. -Next while ordering my steak and cheese, everything is an add on, mushrooms, onion, peppers. My wife said she was gona order the Italian and I froze for a moment, were they gona charge me extra for lettuce, cheese, tomato,,,, luckily there was no add ons but that just makes it even more confusing as why veggie and add ons for steak and cheese?? -now the good parts, bread was fresh, soft, sandwiches were good. -house made chips were good, not oily, could use just a little more salt but was good. -$60 for 1 foot long and one 6 inch, bag of house chips and 2 cans of soda, even for Juneau is crazy. I did give 4 stars, food was good, but it's also a sandwich. Place was clean. Based upon their location, I'm sure tourist will pay the price, but personally probably won't be back.

Finally got a chance to try with my husband. I got the meatball and he got the chicken cheesesteak…read more Holy moly they were both delicious. I ordered the meatball which had a sauce that had a little kick which was delicious but it wasn't spicy. The chicken cheesesteak my husband ordered was delicious and I wish I didn't steal as much of his sandwich as I did. The house made chips are definitely worth it. In the future I will put some in my sandwiching or use them to treat the cheesesteak filling like a chip dip. The guy attending the counter was nice to work with and the music and atmosphere were chill but sure it gets busy sometimes. It was an all around great experience and I look forward to doing it again.
