Tony's Gumbo House - A Little Slice of New Orleans Heaven!…read moreI'm still dreaming about my meal at Tony's Gumbo House. From the moment we walked in, the smell of dark roux and the Gulf Coast hit us like a warm hug. This place doesn't taste like "New Orleans-inspired" - it tastes like somebody's Creole grandma has been standing over that pot all day, and they brought her straight to the table. The seafood gumbo is flat-out outstanding. Perfectly balanced, rich, smoky roux with a deep, soulful flavor that builds with every spoonful. Shrimp, crab, and oysters so fresh they practically wink at you, all swimming in that mahogany elixir with just the right kick of spice that lingers (in the best way). I'd bathe in this gumbo if it were socially acceptable. Then came the gumbo pasta - y'all, I wasn't ready. Al dente pasta tossed in a lighter version of that incredible seafood gumbo, finished with Parmesan and green onions. It's the love child of Louisiana and Italy, and it is second to none. I'm ruined for all other pasta dishes now. And the beignets? Lord have mercy. Piping hot, pillowy squares buried under a blizzard of powdered sugar. Crispy outside, airy inside, with that faint whisper of vanilla. We ordered one plate "to share" and immediately ordered two more. Zero regrets. Service was warm, quick, and full of genuine NOLA hospitality. Prices are beyond fair for the quality and portion size - we left stuffed and still took leftovers home. If you're craving real-deal New Orleans flavors executed to perfection, run (don't walk) to Tony's Gumbo House. I'm already planning my next visit... probably tomorrow. 10/10. Laissez les bon temps rouler!

I could easily eat a whole pot of the chicken and sausage gumbo myself because it was just SO delicious. If you're ever around the south end of hwy 87 you HAVE to try Mrs Tonie's food. 100% chance I'll be a frequent customer now.

In conversation I learned he previously worked as a chef on a well Known cruise line which explained the culinary excellence. Ambiance was comfortable and inviting and we enjoyed dining there Al be it a really hot day. His people skills are top tier too. The best plantains I have ever had, as a lover of that starch I have had many variations, Chef Champions is the best. Jerk chicken well seasoned and cooked to perfection and not overly spicy! Curried goat had deep layering of flavors that had we wanting more and more. They are opened 24 hours too. Waste no time going to experience this great chef local to the FWB/ Destin area!

Spicy (not too, but substantial) jerk chicken plate with half a chicken served over a bed of delightfully aromatic red beans and rice (unfortunately a bit dry) and a slightly overcooked, sweet piece of corn on the cob. But the star of the show, without a doubt, was the chicken... Beautifully grilled / smoked half chicken, super moist with flavor that lasts and lasts. I have been following Chef Champion online and made it a point to stop in today, regardless of the rain, to meet him. I am so glad I did. The food truck staff were friendly and polite, and chef was outgoing, personable and even stepped out to turn on the outside patio heaters in the middle of the rainy afternoon just for me. Thank you! Yes, we will be bringing the family back because there's so many more delightfully, delicious. Looking things to try.
