Chim Thai is one of my favorite restaurants in Albany Park. I love the Mongolian beef and their lychee bubble tea (as well as Thai tea or Thai coffee) are good choices as well. Staff is always pleasant and accommodating and service is quick. I did notice upon my last visit that the portions are a bit smaller than when I visited a couple of months ago and that the type of crispy noodles in the Mongolian beef dish are different and don't taste as good as the initial ones. I ordered the "Tum Pu Pla-Ra," a papaya salad which the menu describes as "Original Thai Isaan Papaya Salad In Fermented Fish and Field Crabs." When the salad came there was no fish and the only crab was crab shell. When I brought this to the attention of the waiter, he said that the salad had no fish or crabs. Just moved into the neighborhood and was craving some noodles. After a day of moving with family, we stumbled upon Chim Thai and was not disappointed! Service was super fast and the staff was very kind. We ordered the shrimp in a blanket (their take on shrimp tempura), calamari, chicken satay, pad Thai, crab fried rice, and the Thai boat noodle. Everything came out quickly and was excellent. The beef in the Thai Boat Noodle was so tender and the broth was delicious. Overall it kinda reminded me of pho but I'm not mad at it! The crab fried was also really flavorful. I do want to note that the serving sizes are fairly large so these plates can be shared family style, which is what we did. We've orders delivery a couple times now. The prices were so reasonable. I especially enjoyed their Tum Thai. The Pad Woon Sen and Pad Kee Mao were better than most I've had, flavorful and generous ingredients. My fiancé says the Pad Thai and Rama Noodles were too sweet, but surprisingly, I still liked them. From a delivery perspective, 5 stars. Well packaged and arrived on time. From a portion perspective, I was pleased with the curry, but the pad thai portion seemed small. From a taste perspective the Shrimp in a Blanket gets an A. The curry was missing something, what I love about Panang Curry is the nice balance of sweet and spicy. The spice was decent, but there was a lack of sweetness. Husband was lukewarm on the Pad Thai, but said some hot sauce perked it up a bit. Overall, I felt a little let down by the reviews. There are a lot of great restaurants in Albany Park, but there aren't many great Thai restaurants. So I was a little apprehensive to try Chim Thai. However, I saw the ratings were pretty good and decided to dine in. The inside of the restaurant has a nice ambience and is very clean. It's not a hole in the wall, and the lighting makes it feel intimate. So if you ever want to dine in, it should be a pleasant experience. There were no other diners when I was there but there were a ton of delivery and takeout orders being picked up. The menu is extensive. Most of the menu is in English, but there are also words in Thai script. There are long lists of appetizers, soups, curries, noodles, rice, etc. I had a standard Pad Thai with chicken as well as mini egg rolls and crab rangoon. All were great and very affordable. I have been to this restaurant numerous times (dozens). One of my favorite Thai dishes is drunken noodle (Pad Khee Mao). I have tried so many drunken noodles in Chicago, and I can say that they make the best drunken noodle. It is quite impressive that it comes out good nearly all the time. Other dishes like Pad Thai and curry are also great--not too sweet or too salty. Only dish that didn't meet my expectation was orange chicken or something that is fried. I had finally let go of any remaining hope that AM Thai would return, so I was overjoyed when I saw that a new Thai restaurant would be opening in its place. We realized they were open this evening, and tried them out for carryout. I was hoping to try the Khao Mun Gai Yang, but it was not available yet, which we'll chalk up to it only being their soft opening. We ended up ordering the Thai Crispy Rolls (2 egg rolls with cabbage, carrots, and glass noodles), Chim Khao Soy with Chicken, and the Krapow Moo Krob. The egg noodles must have soaked up much of the soupiness, because the Khao Soy was more of a yellow curry noodle than a noodle soup. I was looking forward to the soup experience, but the curry was so delicious that I'd still rate it a 5 as its own dish. The chicken was tender and plentiful, but maybe just a *tad* on the dry side. Really good, but probably not what you're expecting. The Krapow Moo Krob (crispy pork belly and pepper stir fry in spicy basil) was AMAZING. Their rice was cooked PERFECTLY. I considered going back for more. We would have gotten the Mango Sticky Rice, but it also was unavailable. After a hospital appointment in the area wanted to grab some grub. The group decided on Thai and one suggested this spot so we grabbed carryout. The food was readied faster than the quoted time. Prior to placing an order I surfed reviews across the web and guess what? Mostly five starred. With the rave reviews & stars I expected a great meal or maybe I expected high quality Thai food. But our meals were not that. Proteins in every meal were cooked well done or almost well. In a curry or pad Thai, that's a no-no. Even otherwise, best to check with your customers if cooking well done is to their liking. Speaking of pad Thai, the texture of noodles was as if I was eating leftovers from the morning. Noodles weren't fresh, they were like springs. What stinks is that there were miniscule but pertinent problems with every dish except the egg rolls. A decent cook that cares about meal quality would have given more care. I enjoy chive dumplings and will order them if finding it on the menu but these were soggy. Another review mentioned this detail as well, so this is their thing. Last but not least, the spice levels were all screwed up. My meal which was supposed to be a 3 was a 5! And the others which wanted 5's got level 1's. So I have balls of sweat rolling off my head and they have stopped eating, displeased & wondering whose idea it was to order from here. For the money spent, not five star quality. More like 3.5 and could cost less IMO. At the time of pick up they were not busy so why the rush to get the food out fast? I'm curious whether they keep food components cooked and on standby so that each entrée can be prepared in minutes rather than prepared fresh every time. What's great is their menu. Lots of options to try, lots of appetizers and some Thai classics not found in every (US) Thai restaurant. They also offer a daily lunch special. There are a lot of Thai food places on the northside but this place deserves more love. First impressions are unassuming, but once you dive into the menu, you see the variety and thai dishes you don't see at others. My favorites include the Boat Noodle, Thai omelette, Pad See Ew. The people are super friendly and they opened during the pandemic, which can be a risk, but I believe they have some of the best thai food around the neighborhood. I got to try this place during the Albany Park Food crawl, the owners were super nice. A few weeks later I made a pretty large order to feed a party. They were able to provide two big trays of noodles and Thai spring rolls in a timely manner and everything tasted great!
