We tried pot stickers that were crisp and hot served with a sauce where flavors were well developed - we learned it's a family recipe -a must try! We then had the firework sushi roll - another flavorful combination. For our entrees we split Panang curry and 00 chicken which was an elevated version of orange chicken. This place is still excellent after all these years. We always get delivery and it comes amazingly fast as well.

It's my neighbor restaurant. I ordered just 3 rolls 2 times but they took so long to make the order, it took 30-40 minutes. They are gonna make you wait so long in any circumstances. Even when they are not too busy. So they deserve 2.5 star so far. read more

We really wanted to like this place but it just turned out to be so so. We got 2 rolls and a pad Thai - the pad Thai is tough to mess up and they did an ok job with it but the portion was pretty small. I've seen places charge a little more for pad Thai and give maybe twice as much food. The two rolls were bland which was a shame because we loved that one of the rolls was called the Portage Park roll. I'd try it again but it wouldn't be my first choice. read more

Stopped by here for dinner with my sister before our concert started at the Copernicus center. The location is great and walking distance. The service was great, cozy ambiance with comfy booth like chairs and string lights on the windows. We tried the chicken satay and I loved the peanut sauce (my sister is allergic, so it's nice that it's on the side). She ordered the basil noodles (forgot to take a photo) and I of course ordered the pad se eiw. They ask if you are gluten free which was appreciated and they can make it for you. This was one of my top three pad see yu's that I have tried and I have had a lot of pad see yus in my life. I've passed this place so many times and finally tried it for the first time, very glad I did! We went in around 6:30 on a Friday evening and it wasn't very busy, it was a lot smaller than I realized! The vibe was cozy with the twinkle lights shining through the windows. The server who greeted us gave us the option to sit where ever we wanted and he ended up being our server. He was very kind and attentive throughout the dinner, even as things started to pick up around 7:30. I noticed that all of the employees seemed to get along really well which We had a couple appetizers and sushi rolls. The shrimp shumai were cooked perfectly, like chewy little clouds. My favorite maki roll that was the Ruk Veggies; Everything tasted so fresh! This place is a great little sushi/thai spot. It's BYOB so once I'm not pregnant anymore I will be coming back with a nice bottle of wine and going crazy on some maki rolls & Pad Thai. read more

I have been to Ruk a few times now and it is great! I usually get their fried rice and it's pretty good (though Pennys in Oak Park gets the crown in my opinion). Only complaint is that the service is a little slow but this is expected in a small family run restaurant. Never ordered takeout or delivery but I will probably at some point. read more

I ordered the lunch chicken pad thai, which came with 2 crispy little veggie spring rolls, miso soup, and some dipping sauce. The pad thai is great, I got it at medium spicy level and think it's perfect for my preference. I'm aware of the heat but it adds to the flavor without being too much or burning imo. I did order an extra little side cup of peanut sauce which cost $1.50. It was tasty and I'd definitely order it again to go with my pad thai. Just went there again on 04/22/2022 and the food and service was great. They were a lot of people who were eating out which was great especially still during this pandemic. We ordered Portage maki, summer maki and the Shiro maki. Also had the basil fried rice, we ordered it medium and it was too spicy for us and we love spicy --so I just combined the white rice with it and it turned out great. We were craving sushi and Ruk really delivered! We called directly to the restaurant to order (sorry Yelp but gotta support the small business) they said 45 to an hour but it was closer to 35 mins! The sushi was perfect! Every bite was full of flavor and the fish was incredibly fresh. The crab Rangoon & egg rolls (which were complementary) were a perfect crunch flavor to add to the meal. We also had chicken fried rice. We are so impressed by the service and quality of this sushi! Def a must if you're craving sushi! read more

I visited here on a Friday night and there were 4 servers working. They were very attentive; food came out fast. There were other diners at the restaurant as well as many take out orders. Chicken wings- don't do it. It's breaded. It's not authentic Thai style. It comes with sweet & sour sauce which also isn't authentic Thai style. Pad see ew- I typically never order pad see ew & consider this as an "American" Thai dish. But this dish is damn good. The noodles are very chewy, to my liking. I never eat broccoli either but for some reason, I really like this dish. Pad Thai- such a great balance of sweet & sour taste. My taste buds went crazy between savory pad see ew and sweet pad Thai. It was perfect. I ended up eating so much! And lastly, you ain't eating Thai food unless you're eating Thai curry! Don't be so boring and only order noodle dishes! I ordered Penang curry and it was good. It was more runny than typical. There were also peas, which I've never had peas in a Thai curry. Thai eggplant & bell peppers? Yes. Peas? No, never. Ordered take-out from Ruk, I got the Pad See Eiw and my girlfriend got the Tofu Pad Thai. Ordering online was super easy, to be honest I just clicked on their business from Google Maps, but it was ready to pick up in no time at all. I'm a person that loves spicy foods, and I got my Pad See Eiw with Spicy Seasoning. Personally I think it's just the right amount of heat for a business, experienced people will still consider this spicy, but novices would be able to bear this level of heat without complaining (too much, lol). I wanted to like this place so bad! The godzilla roll I had tasted like the tempura shrimp was old. The tempura had no crunch. It was stale and soggy. Like it had been fried and just left out for a while. The veggie egg rolls were good and so was the chicken satay! The pad thai was awful. It had thia weird after taste like the egg or chicken were daya old. We all had one bite of it and left it alone. My last review from 2013 gave them a 4 star rating. Changed my mind and now rate them a solid 5. Ruk has went above and beyond during the pandemic to offer the same delicious fare as both carry out and delivery. My orders have been fulfilled quickly, accurately and brought to my home securely packaged with all accompaniments. I've enjoyed both their Thai and Sushi dishes. Admittedly I tend to purchase their Thai selections the most. The Red Curry and Panang Curry are my most selected offerings (chicken). Both of these dishes are so delicious and the veggies perfectly cooked. The appetizers I tend to favor are their chicken dumplings (fried) and veggie egg rolls. At least that's what I had tonight. The Crab Rangoon and Chicken Skewers with peanut butter dipping sauce are exquisite too. Tonight I ordered the smoked salmon crunchy maki, it was very good. Once in a while I'll get a taste for Sushi and I've always enjoyed Ruk's offerings. The owners and people doing delivery have always been very friendly. The food is so delicious, but the staff really needs to get their act together:( I've been a customer here for a while now. But I'm worried that the quality is not what it used to be. I was just on the north side of Chicago and was looking for some good sushi. This place was close and looked affordable. I popped in to see what it was like. The inside is very intimate. The decor was lovely and quaint. I saw several people getting their food to go. I knew exactly what I wanted and didn't waste anytime. I ordered some spicy tuna rolls, spicy salmon, and some spicy ebi tempura. The food came out pretty fast. The portion sizes were decent at best. I may be somewhat spoiled by other sushi spots that give you bigger portion sizes. The tuna and salmon were perfect. The tempura was a little bit sloppy in appearance but still tasted great. One of the things about the far Northwest end of Milwaukee Avenue in Chicago is that there seems to be a few hidden gems interspersed between what may appear to be close businesses. Ruk Sushi and Thai is one of them. Much like many Asian fusion restaurants that entertain Thai and Japanese cuisine on a single menu, Ruk falls into that category. If you're driving too fast, you may not pay attention to it. Crunchy shrimp. Spicy ebi tempura. Panang curry with chicken. First, the maki rolls were fresh. That is a plus. For anyone who has had any maki or sushi that had a muddy or "sat for a long time" fishy taste to it, eating sushi that does not induce a wince is a fantastic thing. " We will, we will, Ruk you, Ruk you..." Boy was I Ruk'd on my first visit! I went with some friends and family the other night and we had a wonderful time. We had great service and super yummy food on our visit. The wait staff was very attentive and not once did we have to ask for water refills---that is my biggest peeve--having to ask for more water. We ordered both Sushi and Thai items to all share. We had the specials to start out with, Ruk Sunrise and the Giligan Roll----sashimi was very fresh and flavorful. I absolutely loved the Giligan Roll with the thinly sliced cucumbers---I've been having dreams of these luscious lollipops the past few nights and hope that they will be on special on my return visit. Next we ordered the spring rolls and the chicken satay. The chicken was very moist and grilled to perfection. The spring rolls were light and full of fresh veggies. Next we tried the Mount Fuji maki and the RP Veggie roll. Our group loved both! The soft shell crab in the mount fuji was crispy and very tasty. For entrees, we ordered the Double O Chicken, Pad See Eiw, and Spicy Basil Chicken. For the Double O Chicken---you can't go wrong with super crispy pieces of fried chicken--yum! Pad See Eiw and Spicy Basil Chicken were very authentic. The waitress did ask us the level of heat we wanted for the basil chicken so that was nice. I hate going to places that don't do the ground chicken for the basil chicken--because it's just not authentic Thai style---so love that this place is keepin' it real. Although we were all stuffed--who could resist some dessert? Not us---so we ordered the Banana Rolls----I'm usually not a huge fan of coconut--but the shredded coconut inside really made these little golden fried sticks of bananarama fabulous! I like that the restaurant is on the corner and has ample street parking in the area. They have a lot of variety and a lot of different options to please whoever you might be going with. If you decide to order carry-out or delivery be sure to check out their website--looks like they have coupons available.
