This place was recommended by my Thai boss so figured it was legit. And it sure was! I went with the lunch special: Pad See Woo with Spring Rolls which came with their soup of the day. I forgot to ask what the soup was because it was so refreshing. It was definitely ginger based chicken broth with wild rice but the ginger flavor was not overpowering at all. Very smooth and clean tasting. The spring rolls were a delightful treat as the veggies inside were very crisp and fresh and the tamarind sauce that accompanied it was the perfect pairing. Found this to be a unique twist because most Thai places I've been too serve spring rolls with just a simple sweet n sour but the tamarind added a really nice touch to the sauce. And the Pad See Woo hit. This is one of my favorite Thai dishes. Again, their sauce hit just a little different. There as just something different about their black soy sauce. I actually tasted the sauce first and knew right away this was going to be good. And one thing I noticed was that there were a lot of regulars coming through the door for their take out. My friend took me there, and honestly, I expected a bit more than what I got. The food was good and the vibe was nice for a one-time visit, but I probably wouldn't go back. The tables are placed very close to each other, so there's almost no privacy, and it's not very comfortable to have a proper conversation. That being said, the service was great. I placed an online order. The order was ready when promised, but the guy at the front wasn't very friendly. No smile, not very inviting at all. My wife ordered their Pad See Ewe with chicken, I ordered their Basil Fried Rice with chicken, an order of their Crab Rangoons, and Mango Sticky Rice. The crab rangoons were good and the mango sticky rice was really delicious. My wife's pad see ewe was not good at all. Had no flavor. The chicken was bland and overall the entire table agreed that this dish was not good. And for the first time in my 20 years of trying Thai food, I did not order pad kee mao. I opted for the basil fried rice and I'm really glad I did. This dish was very flavorful, and executed perfectly. I wonder what went wrong with the pad see ewe because this basil fried rice was amazing. Night and day compared to the pad see ewe. Overall it's definitely on the pricier side. If the fried rice wasn't any good then I would take this place off my list, but I will definitely be returning for that dish again. read more

My bud and I recently enjoyed the lunch specials at Jin Thai. You get an appetizer, soup and main course for about $13, and there may be slight upcharges depending on the dish and the type of protein. The lunch specials are served Monday through Friday from 11:30 AM to 2:00 PM, and they are a good way to try a couple of items. Our soup of the day was chicken and rice, and we slurped down our hearty cups of soup on this chilly afternoon. I chose the spring roll as my appetizer, filled or topped with tofu, cucumber, bean sprouts, egg, carrot, and plum sauce. My bud went with the crispy egg roll. My main course was the kee mow noodles with chicken, broccoli, green beans, tomato, bean sprouts. This can be a spicy dish, so I asked for medium level of spiciness, and I'd say the level was more on the mild side. Everything I tried tasted fresh, and the vegetables had a nice crisp texture. My bud enjoyed his cashew chicken, which came with white rice. Service was prompt and pleasant, and our water glasses were filled without asking. There are sooooooo many restaurants in Chicago as we all know, but if in the area I would not mind trying Jin Thai again. read more

Me and my girlfriend came here craving authentic Thai food and we were so glad we came to the perfect restaurant!! They have a decent menu to choose from and the food was decent priced for its portion. We order moo ping which is my all time favorite appetizer and they make it super good with their home made sauce w a side of cucumber and tomato; papaya salad which we got spicy and it was super spicy Cai they put chopped up to si chili peppers (in big piece) and I ate a tons of it thinking it was string beans but it was DELICIOUS! For mains we got pannang curry and sauce was delicious but the chicken was a bit dry. The pad see eew was delicious! Wish we got more meat in it but because of how flavorful the dish was, I didn't care at the time. Wish I had the room to try mango sticky rice cause it's in season... Several friends and I have a Thai Wednesday outing most every Wednesday. Jin Thai is consistently in rotation--maybe 2x a month. I also meet a business colleague there once a month at lunchtime. The food is consistently great. I love their curries and have had most every item on the menu over the years. Several of their apps are really great, too--especially the lime chicken. To be honest, they served the best Panang Curry I've had in a long time. The chicken was tender but it was the sauce itself that got me. It was utterly delicious. An almost luxurious creamy coconut milk flavor. I will definitely order from them again. The man who was working the counter was charming. A great small business spot that I would love to come back. My friend studied aboard in Thailand for a bit and even said their food comes pretty close to the real thing she's had. Our server was super sweet and attentive to our table, always checking in to ensure we had everything we needed and the food was good. The chicken in the pad see ewe was really tend but other than that, the dish was nothing was too special. I would suggest saving the room to try their other dishes. Their Tom Khai soup was smaller than I thought but still extremely flavorful, a good mix of sour, sweet and a little savory; I would definitely say leaning more towards the sweeter side the more you drink it. The Thai crepe appeared pretty big but surprisingly tasted very light and refreshing with everything inside, and especially with the small cucumber salad (which is a must try imo). Food was good not great. (I can make great Thai in my own kitchen, it's not difficult at all, so not overly impressed.) But was there celebrating my partner's birthday and we were mostly ignored, and treated rudely when we weren't being ignored--because a friend of the owner was there celebrating HIS birthday, and the owner and servers essentially ignored everyone else. I watched them be equally dismissive to people coming in to pick up their phone orders. We never went back. We love everything about Jin Thai, from the owners, to the slightly upscale decor (not a basic storefront), to the consistently excellent Thai food. My kids and my mom fell in love with their previous restaurant in Evanston, and we followed them to Edgewater. We hosted a rehearsal dinner there. My kids are now in college, and bring their friends- and dates- there without us as parents. The staff notices who they come with, remembers them, and asks after them , even months later. Everything was delicious! We had the shrimp steamed dumplings, pad thai, crispy chicken with sweet chili sauce, and tofu with vegetables. Three of us shared one appetizer and three entrees (on the smaller side as far as standard American portions go) and walked away feeling just the right amount of full. If you're very hungry, I'd definitely recommend an appetizer in addition to your meal. The ambiance was warm and relaxed, and we enjoyed the music playing (Elton John, Billy Joel, the Beatles) while waiting for our food. The service was great, but I wouldn't dine in if you're on a time crunch. I've been here several times, mostly pre-pandemic, all amazing. I met some friends here Saturday night and was glad it's still a gem! This place is so delicious! The food is so beautifully spiced and balanced that I don't have to add condiments to enhance the dishes at all. The crab rangoon actually tastes like crab and not just a "cream cheese puff" which seems to have become a current trend. The salmon tamarind is unbelievable. I'd say to management clean the glass pendants once a month. Not once ever 5 years. Common sense. Mmmmk This just moved to a 5star. I'll start with the pendants they were all sparkling clean. I've been going to Chicago Thai restaurants since they first became popular in the early 80s, but I've gotten out of the habit in recent years because so many Thai places have become excessively Americanized. But Jin is delicious and authentic. I had the chicken satay with perfectly cooked chicken and amazing, addictive peanut sauce, and the beef larb (medium spicy.) Add some extra lime juice, and the flavor just leaps out at you. Pleasant decor and very friendly service by a Thai family that clearly remembers the way real Thai food tastes. Solid spot for Thai food and I would have given it a higher score but the curry was a complete fail...Watery and bland in flavor which is not something you expect from yellow curry. I'm guessing and hoping it was just a bad day but outside of that everything else I ordered was delicious. I ordered the beef pad kee mow. The beef was dry to the point of crumbling like sand in my mouth. Hadn't been marinated or silkened at all. The noodles were a gloppy mess. Not pan fried first and thrown into the sauce so that they were mushy and inseparable by the time they arrived. There was no real flavor to any of it. I just tasted salt and sugar. No ginger, chili pepper, or basil. I was amazed to come on Yelp and see just glowing reviews as this meal was below average for me. Just walk down a block or two to Talard Market and either get their hot food in the back or the prepared foods in the fridge case up front. read more

I had no idea that the end of Broadway where Jin Thai is has gone through such a wonderful change in landscape since I was living in the Rogers Park area years ago. And I happen to stumble upon Jin Thai. Crab rangoon stuffed nicely and not to the point of dribbling or squirting when you bite into it. Panang chicken nice and spicy in a thick gravy that's not salty. I was shocked that the restaurant was not filled to capacity when I went this one particular day, but when I passed by again on a Friday night to see a friend in a stage play a few blocks away, I saw that the restaurant was packed. The food is worthy of a visit and many returns. Next time I will be sure to take my camera in abidance of the foodie mantra: You must always have a camera at hand. Update as of 31 March 2012, I returned and had two more different dishes. I started with the crispy crepes that were stuffed with shrimp, tofu, bean sprouts, and coconut flakes. Talk about wow. Then I had the yellow curry chicken with sweet potatoes. Not that I am adverse to change, but I have been accustomed to having yellow curry chicken with white potatoes.
