I order take out. The vegetable lo me in is really nice and they give you tons of vegetables in the order. I also got chicken and garlic sauce which was tasty as well. The shrimp egg roll was smaller than I'm use too and favor less. I liked that when I picked up my order I could see straight back into the kitchen. Everyone was wearing face masks. The interaction with cashier in the front is through a glass, to minimize infections. She puts your food in a cabinet that you open on the other side and receive your order. I'm a vegetarian so the General Tso's tofu is my all-time favorite and something I haven't been able to find anywhere else. My go to for Chinese food, so convenient because its very close to home. Also, very affordable and reasonable in price, honestly the cheapest Chinese cuisine around. After several attempts to place an order over the phone and the line being busy for 30 minutes I went ahead and drove up to place my order in person. I get there and I ask for my usual shrimp egg foo young and shrimp fried rice no veggies. The cashier proceeds to tell me they are to busy to cook my order. I was so confused. He than said he couldn't make my order because I requested no veggies....this was super underwhelming seeing how I frequent this place for my hubby a few times per month. The food was okay, the fried rice was under seasoned and not browned enough, the chicken Katsu was very dry and their Katsu sauce was horribly bitter instead of the traditional tangy sweet style sauce it usually goes with that I've eaten many times in Hawaii, Korea and Japan. Best Chinese we have found in the area so far. The portion sizes are deceiving. Everyone is used to large portions when getting Chinese carry out, but these looked tiny in the containers they were in. I thought I didn't order enough food for the whole family, but there was plenty and even leftovers. Some of the flavors were interesting, the wonton soup has seasoning we have never had before. The kids didn't care for it, but I didn't mind. We will be hitting it up again for carry out that is for sure. read more

The Avon area somehow manages to have three different Thai restaurants fairly close together, but slim pickings when it comes to Chinese food. Were it not for China Bistro I think I'd find myself driving much farther to satisfy my cravings for some good old Americanized Chinese food. The food itself is good. The Bistro sports the typical range of takeout items. None of the food I've had has made me cry with happiness, but everything has always tasted good and fresh. I also tend to judge takeout places by their hot and sour soup and, while CB's isn't the best I've ever had, it's quite good. Their service is good - they've always gotten my phoned in orders ready quickly and accurately. The prices and portions aren't bad either. My wife and I usually order about $30 worth of food to share and have enough for that dinner and another two meals each after that. So is it good? Yes. Is it the best? I recently discovered China Bistro, even though I have been driving by it for longer than I care to admit. I had always dismissed it as another Chinese Buffet in Avon. Boring. Not the case at all. First, there is NO buffet. They cook to order and they do it quite well. I will admit, I've only been three times (in the past 2 months) and all three times I've gotten the same thing. The moo shu pork and the moo shu chicken (almost the same thing). The dishes are not overloaded with cabbage. They are primarily meat and other veggies. The moo shu sauce is one of the best around. They serve theirs with both white rice and pancakes. I have tried both, but prefer the less messy rice method :) Rolling stuff up into burrito shapes is fun, but sometimes you just don't have the real estate to make all that happen...not successfully anyway. I've only had carryout, but there are booths for eating in. The place is very clean and the staff is friendly enough. I like to place my order and then zip over to McAlisters for iced tea. By the time I get back, I'm good to go. If you are looking for a quick/cheap/huge serving for lunch or dinner and prefer not to eat from a feeding trough, go to China Bistro. read more

I recently moved to the Indianapolis area, and I've had a hard time finding good food that isn't tacos or burgers. Will alter the food VERY WELL to your taste. The HSS (Hot Sour Soup) is MADE TO ORDER and served piping hot! The Mu Shu is above average. The kitchen looks clean, and everyone there is friendly. The only real complaint I have have is with the egg rolls, which are always far too oily. For the Pepperheads: Just tell them "Very, very spicy" and you wont be let down. I've now tried a number of Chinese places in the Avon vicinity, and this is by far the best. The menu is fairly standard for take-out focused restaurants, but the quality is a bit higher--everything is well-prepared, nothing is too greasy (or, at least, not excessively greasy for fried food), sauces are tasty, etc. A particular favorite dish after a few visits is the Hot and Spicy Shrimp. I've had this from a few places, and have typically been disappointed, but China Bistro's version is a nice mix of spicy and sweet, with some very well-prepared vegetables (mostly onions and peas) that don't taste like they were freezer-burnt before being cooked. My big disappointment is that like with so many take-out focused Chinese restaurants, the dining room leaves a lot to be desired. There are a few booths, but they are usually occupied by people waiting for their take-out, rather than anyone eating in the restaurant. I really wish there was a good sit-down Chinese restaurant in the area, but that's more a general complaint than against China Bistro itself. For more formal Chinese, I'll still have to make the trip over to Szechuan Garden by Lafayette Square. read more

Based on Yelp reviews I tried the General Tso's Chicken. It was not the best, but certainly good enough, and piping hot and stayed warm for a couple hours in the thick, sweet glaze. I opted for the large meal with the steamed rice, and it was gorgeously sticky rice which I adore. The only lacking was the steamed broccoli which was too underdone for my taste, but, hey, when I steam broccoli, it is usually falling apart... and drenched in butter and salt, So maybe theirs is slightly (well more than slightly) healthier than mine. It's ok. The amount of sugar in that sweet glaze will make up for it! Will be back to try more on the menu. read more

We stopped in because we were starving after a mid-day flight from Las Vegas and it was kind of on the way home from the airport. The place is small but there are a few booths for seating. We were the only people in there on a Sunday evening and one carry out order was the only other activity we saw.
