Bad decision on dinner tonight. I know it's not comparable to Great Castle or Lam's but I thought this place was as good as Panda. The food was not horrible... But it was ummmm errrr okay. The chow mein and the rice did not have flavor and their soda is only given by request. They put some kind of lock on their machine and when you ask for soda it's flat... No carbonation. You are not allowed to get your own ice, the people go to some private back room and put it in the cup for you so.. It's iffy and no telling where they got it from. The staff is friendly but the food quality is not what I expected and the soda deal was just weird. I don't see myself coming back to China Bistro. read more

This has been our go to spot in the area but they ALWAYS have issues with our order when we use Door Dash or Grub Hub for self pick up. Today was the last straw. Went to pick up an order my husband placed and they claim they can't even see the order so that's it. I'm showing them the receipt and order on my phone and all they said was to call door dash. ALL CHINESE FOOD TASTES THE SAME! I often hear that alot but thats the furthest thing from the truth when it comes to China Bistro. Their food is fresh and you can taste the great quality. Quality uses come with a premium. Nope. Not here. They have a $3.95 bowl special for lunch. $3.95!!!!! You cant really beat that. Now where you will pay a premium and where I have the biggest issue is that for no to low carb diets most restraunts have a healthy alternative to their rice base which is typically free. Here I have to pay for a protein bowl which doesnt get the 3.95 price. I call it the fat tax but since most places accomdate me their I tend to only come here on real cheat days. NEVER AGAIN! Thought it would be as good or close to the marketplace China Bistro, but by far not. I got orange and mushroom chicken and the mushroom chicken only had four small pieces of chicken, 6 of zucchini and 12 mushrooms. They meant it when they said "MUSHROOM chicken." Orange chicken is usually a little too sweet for my preference, but this one wasn't sweet at all; it didn't have flavor at all. Hell, even their sriracha sauce looked and tasted diluted! In the beginning this place would have received more stars, but by the end of the meal sitting in the dining room was clearly an eye opener. First upon ordering it went well, purchasing the meal great. Sitting down we began to eat . Suddenly my eyes were drawn to the stacks and stacks of boxes in the dining area . Not attractive . But that's not the worst part. The employees were nice but noticed as customer left area they spoke to each other in their native language , but it was awkward like they were talking rudely about other customers . At first I thought it was just misunderstanding, but as each customer left the employees would point , stare or laugh was really unprofessional in my opinion ... One of my favorite go-to places for quick Chinese take out and I haven't been disappointed to this day. While it's not the best place in town for good take out, it's usually pretty reliable and the food is good. The restaurant itself is usually pretty clean and the employees are friendly and take your order immediately. They are famous for the combination plates and their one-item bowls. You can also order dishes à la carte and take them to go. My go-to order is usually the Combo B plate which comes with a choice of two items and rice and chow mein. I usually get the "half and half" with fried rice and chow mein along with my two entrees. My favorite entrees are the orange chicken, mushroom chicken, black pepper shrimp, and kung pao chicken. However, like many, their orange chicken is probably their most popular and arguably the best item on the menu. It's always so flavorful and delicious! Also, the portions here are HUGE and a COMBO B plate can easily feed 2 people. I've seen families of 4 share two combo B plates or combo C plates (3 entrees) because it's so much food. I can never usually finish a combo B plate because of the carb content in the rice and chow mein--- it's a LOT of food! I will end this review by saying that this particular China Bistro is close to me so I come here often if I want a quick Chinese food fix. It's cheap, good and is ready to go! Fortune cookies leave important slips of promises made to keep over general times between the here and now, especially advice for delight and wisdom- my slip gave a direct tip on conversation at the table in regards to moments yesterday and now. Breaking apart the fortune cookie is a delightful occurrence after drinking Pepsi on enough fuel for the road. A variety of shops and restaurants co-exist around these quarters and our visits combine with reality on fumes, gazes, and wonder. Possibilities seem endless while multitasking adds tension for everyday outings into Bakersfield's wide, hot desert. They give you a lot of bang for your buck- the portions of food are very generous and leftovers are likely results. A beautiful painting rests in the corner where ideas get drawn over excellent casual dining. Rice deserves notice from the other sides. Food is prepared hot, served immediately, and only some time near the soda fountain leaves another note for dining on a hot, warm day. Forks are provided with suggestion of added features: napkins, trays, and visibility over the counter. Options for sides include plenty of fare and rice can be substituted for their rich noodle plate. The atmosphere is very easily informal but polite and comfortable. Achieving the mark on a plate requires time and consideration for handling the food in quick, easy custom where purchases are realized like those for a cafeteria- the food is handled into a container on demand where a line forms behind and in front of the counter, workers in formation, customers lined up, and the cash register leaves an afterthought for dining without being much waited on. This place was underwhelming. Bland food...pushy I assume owner, excessively loud PA system...felt cluttered. Food: 2 Service: 2 Atmosphere: 2 Cleanliness 2 Food...was very bland. Hardly any taste to it. Only positive I can say is that I didn't get sick. I was worried. Oh and instead of making fresh egg rolls...they reheated the ones they had out. Some of my food was cold. Service....very pushy. Almost demanding. While somewhat friendly, especially the husbamd...the woman was really a bit rude. She hasn't learned that it is bad manners to talk crap in Chinese because you don't think your customer understands you. Very rude. Atmosphere....felt like the backroom of a gift shop. Boxes of what appeared to be souvenirs stacked up...trash bags laying around...cheap toys etc etc. I don't like eating in a storage closet. Cleanliness...of you get passed the stockroom stacks of boxes...the place is kept fairly clean. But I did not like their food handling. You can tell they value trying to save a buck more than they do loyal customers or quality of product. Price...overcharge for mediocrity. You're far better going to panda express. Driving down Coffee Road and was trying to grab a quick bite for dinner and we spotted China Bistro so we busted a U-turn and proceeded. When we entered it smelled great but only 4 people total eating there. We were greeted as soon as we walked in the door and the setup is identical to a Panda Express with nearly the same types of options. You can choose from a bowl, 1-item, 2-item or 3-item with your choice of fried rice or chow mein. If you like half of each, that will do as well. We only had one of our kids with us and he ordered a 2-item with only fried rice and his sides were the "Spicy Salty Fish" and something else I cannot remember. My kid inhales food like there is no tomorrow and he absolutely loves & adores chinese food. But he barely touched his food, when asking what is wrong his reply was, "I don't like it". That is a dang shocker!! My wife ordered half fried rice and half chow mein with Mushroom Chicken & Orange Chicken. She ate the food and said the Orange Chicken was good but does not surpass Panda Express. And the Mushroom Chicken was good as I tasted it off her plate. I ordered half fried rice and half chow mein with Spicy Salty Fish and Tofu in Garlic Sauce. I tried the rice & chow mein and literally it was just so bland. I requested for some soy sauce which I have had to do in the past with other chinese places. I was shocked at how salty this soy sauce was compared to the Kikkoman I use at home. I tasted like I heaved a load of salt onto my rice & chow mein. The Spicy Salty Fish was okay, had a decent amount of heat but you can tell some of the fish had been sitting there as there were some pieces dried out and some moist. But then again you can feel the oil texture as I chewed. The Tofu with Garlic Sauce was awkwardly sweet, I couldn't taste the garlic. I like Tofu, I don't love & adore it but usually I enjoy it, not here. One thing I am really picky about is soda and when we ordered two large to share between the 3 of us the lady mentioned she had to get the ice for us in the back. I can't lie, I was not entirely comfortable with this but I already paid for the food and drinks. Then we she gave us the cups with ice, the soda did not have carbonated water mixed with it. It tasted like the soda syrup mixed with tap water, it was utterly disgusting. So not only was the food bland but I couldn't even wash it down with a great refreshing soda!!! I will not return here and that is sad because the workers were really nice and mad us feel welcome. However when eating quite a bit of people filtered in and out for take out and I kid you not, every single person or group ordered ORANGE CHICKEN. I hate writing poor reviews, but I also like to be honest. So here it goes: I was craving Chinese food late one night. I chose China Bistro 1) because it's closest to my house and 2) I thought I'd give a nod to local business instead of my old corporate stand-by, Panda Express. We had orange chicken, beef and broccoli and kung pao chicken. The beef in my beef and broccoli was so tough I had to excuse myself to spit it out (I just couldn't chew it). There was no evidence of chicken in my kung pao chicken. Even sadder, there was no POW in it either--totally bland. The orange chicken was meh, not good or bad. The upshot is the people are super nice and the portions are pretty generous. So if you are spice and flavor averse and just need the calories without the flavor, this spot isn't bad. However, if you want to taste (or chew) your food, I'd go some place else. Sorry China Bistro People, you are super nice. read more

Of course, this is a typical cheap "fast-food" sort of Chinese place- it's a bit like Panda Express, minus the ruckus and crowds. The original China Bistro by the Marketplace is owned by the school mate of an acquaintance from San Gabriel valley. I have not been to the main store at the Marketplace in a very long time. I noticed this location a week ago on our way to Love Sushi. A week ago, I did not feel like cooking and planned to visit this location on Coffee Road. It was 2:00 PM when I got there, way past the lunch crowd thus there were only two tables occupied. I viewed the choices, it reminded me of Panda Express. The choices were OK, nothing really fancy or exceptional. I planned to give this review 2 stars. The additional "star" awarded due to large helpings of both for the entree and noodles. And unlike Panda Express where the servers almost seem like counting the strands of noodles, pieces of orange chicken or shrimp - it is refreshing to see your "to go" styrofoam container full of food. Panda Express should take a page from China Bistro in the amount of food dispensed to the food containers plus use a proper styrofoam container and not one that has an elevated bottom thus falsely showing the container is full! read more

We love this place! It is a great place for grab and go chinese food. Lots of choices, fresh, and you can order a la carte. We have ordered trays of rice, orange chicken, kung pao beef, and chow mein for parties. It was delicious. Our favorites incl.: orange chicken, chicken with pineapple chunks and sesame seeds, mushroom chicken with zucchini, kung pao chicken, broccoli beef, and barbecue pork. They have white or fried rice and chow mein. Those items above are usually in steam trays. We get beef kung pao sometimes a la carte. Delicious! I really like the chicken egg rolls. Big. I like that they have fish, shrimp, soups, veggies and tofu options, which are especially helpful during Lent. read more

I didn't pay for the meal I had here so I can't comment on price. The lunch was bought for me as part of our Friday lunches. The food was good enough that I asked where they got it so I could eat there again. I had the Chow Mein which was really good. Everything was cooked well and there were pieces of cabbage and carrot that were actually large enough to be identified as what they were compared to other places where you're not sure what it is. The orange chicken was also very good. It was very flavorful and the sauce stuck to the chicken rather than being runny and mixing into everything else. I was very pleased with the quality of food and will be eating there in the near future. read more

Prices are as high as Panda Express and quality of the food is less than panda. They also visibly try to limit the amount of entrees they give while maximizing the rice/chow mein. They staff was highly argumentative with another customer who requested fresh sweet and sour fish because he said it was stale tasting. Staff insisted it was "2 minutes fresh." Maybe it was, but the staff was not very good at addressing his concerns and expressing concern over his complaint. I've taken delivery to stop by as recommended by friends & I was amazed, Price was really reasonable, food is great, facility was great specially when I arrived on Sunday. People from Church stop by too & have mentioned that they alway come by whenever they are in the neighborhood. The place was pack aside from so many restaurant around. This China Bistro location is far less than appetizing . My boyfriend and I used to go to the China Bistro that is located in The Market Place off Ming. It NEVER failed us and would have us craving it. In fact, my family from out of state came to visit and we took them to the China Bistro at The Market Place. I kid you not, they still talk about how that China Bistro tops any Chinese food they've had, especially the Chow Mein. Now, being that we are totally obsessed with China Bistro, we were stoked to find another location off of Coffee while out shopping one afternoon. Mind you, it is about 4:30 in the evening, about time for people to begin coming in. First of all, there were a couple cooks out in the lobby on cell phones and the women behind the counter looked less than pleased to have customers and they just STARED at us the entire time blank faced as were trying to be discreet. So awkward! My boyfriend also says he noticed those things. We both looked down at the food and I immediately was ready to leave. Every dish looked dried out and as if it had been sitting there since opening. One of the women began stirring one of the dishes and you could see a 'film' on top of the food from sitting there as it broke apart and she mixed it in. Now, I understand that happens sometimes, but every dish looked that way and we're both bothered by NOTHING looking fresh. We were turned off enough so that my boyfriend pretended to get a call saying that 'our friends' were at the Ming location and we were just mixed up. This "Chinese food" is quick and convenient. Quality is OK, no more, no less. The people working here act "put out" when you ask for soy sauce of other condiments to go. Over by a table usually taken up by Chinese newspapers on the right side, many times there are boxes of supplies in the floor. When I come here I like to choose the orange chicken and broccoli beef combination because of its nice (read: basic) taste.
