I'm concerned this is one of the top rated Asian cuisine restaurants in Bakersfield.... I only came here because it had good reviews. If you guys think this is great, we need to have a heart to heart. Let's start with the potstickers. I asked the waiter if I should get steamed or fried; he recommended fried. Well, let's just say I've had better potstickers from the grocery store's frozen section than this place... They were incredibly small and flavorless. If this is what is recommended, the steamed version must be inedible. Thankfully the Chicken Pad Thai actually had some flavor, but nothing to recommend to anymore. There is certainly better out there... This alone is definitely not a reason to go back. To make matters worse, it was pretty expensive... $31 for a plate and appetizer? No, just no. My favorite place at home for a huge plate and the same appetizer is $22, and my city is more expensive to live in. Heck, even amazing hole-in-the-wall Asian restaurants in Los Angeles (you know, one of the most expensive places to live) is cheaper than this place. And if this matters to anyone, the restaurant and restrooms are pretty beat up and dingy. It's not a comfortable or welcoming environment. My friends invited me here for lunch, and I'll be honest, I was a little skeptical. It's a hole in the wall and the first impression was not the best, but I'm so glad I gave it a chance! The food is so good and deserves its praises! We ordered veggie egg rolls and spring rolls, which were fresh, crisp, and served with sauces that complemented them well. I had the drunken noodles with beef, but I also tried my friend's fried rice and tofu pad se ewe. All delicious and full of flavor. I realize that not all Thai places do phó, but this was delicious. I got a brisket and beef ball phó. Another individual got a massaman curry, the other guy got pad Thai. They all enjoyed their meals. We all left full and happy. I talked to the waiter and asked if they had some more authentic offerings. They do. Next time I go back we will be having some of that. Hubby and I went on a whim last night and decided to eat here. Since Ocha Thai took the place of our beloved Far East Restaurant, we have not been in these parts in a very, very long time. Upon entry, the hot table that used to be in the old establishment still sits here. Not entirely sure if it's owned by the same management but definitely worth patronizing, Hubby wanted Thai boat noodle and sure enough, they served it here. I was opting for a rice dish but the server Kim, sold me on a fresh bowl of combination pho that she said would come from a freshly made batch in the kitchen. It was perfect because I wanted to eat something "soupy" even though it was clearly hot as balls outside at 107 degrees. Each noodle soup came with balanced broths in its own right. Thai boat was thick, dark, and rich. Pho was clear, light and aromatic. Both dishes shared the same plate of usual garnishes: bean sprouts, Thai basil, limes and sliced jalapeños. The noodles in each dish were the perfect serving and there was ample meat in each bowl. We ordered a beef pad see ew to go for my daughter. The hubby asked for a Vietnamese iced coffee but Kim was polite in stating they didn't have one but offered Thai version, being it is a Thai restaurant. She said it's going to be great and I'll give you a small taste test. She came back quickly with a regular order and it was refreshing. It's slightly less stronger and less sweeter than the traditional Vietnamese version. As the dinner went on, several customers came by and picked up their phone orders. There were about five tables of restaurant diners all who seemed to be enjoying their food. Overall, the dinner was pleasant. The restaurant was clean and the ambiance was chill. The food was authentic and delicious. Best of all, the server Kim handled customer orders in an expeditious manner. We will definitely be back. read more

Highly recommend the yellow curry, pad see ew, gyoza appetizers (both steamed and fried), and fried rice (a little lean on the protein but still tasty). My Grandpa, aunt and brother have all lived in Bakersfield for a total of nearly 30 years of my life, and of all the amazing memories I have of those years, there is a common theme: food. King's Table all-you-can-eat buffet (soft serve ice cream until we complained about not feeling well and Grandpa taking the all-you-can-eat to the next level and sneaking out pockets full of food for his dogs), Chuy's, Basque food, Dewar's...there are so many types of incredible food around here, and now I get to add Thai to the list! On the way through heading up to Shaver Lake, I was in hangry mode just wanting someone else to decide where we'd pull over to eat QUICKLY, when my navigator said those magic words, "Hey! This place has 4.5 stars and over 200 reviews!" She knows me too well. We walked in and the place was rockin'. Literally. Turns out it was our server, Kim's, birthday celebration. She even asked if we had any song requests! (My kids impressed her with their taste in music.) Yeah. I know. This doesn't involve the food, but that's the thing...we became part of a family-run restaurant's family birthday party! And we left feeling like part of the family! Ok. The food. We love all food in our family but good Thai is something we rarely find. Our first test is always whether a place serves papaya salad. They passed that test. They do. And it was delicious. Our eggplant was spicy and cooked perfectly. The Pad See Ew was voted BWEH (Best We've Ever Had), all the shrimp we added to the dishes was cooked perfectly, and the probably shouldn't have ordered but did anyway bowls of pho and ramen were great as well. Oh. And my icy cold Singha. Not only was the food amazing, we got out of there for $77. (And the birthday girl hooked us up with some boba Thai tea too!) First time here, ordered food ahead of time online. We showed up early to get our food and have to wait about 5-10 minutes longer than the estimated time online. No big we were not in any rush. My husband and I were both not impressed. The food was bland. Thankfully we had taken the food home so I was able to add several different seasonings and sauces to make mine have any flavor. The food all seemed cooked correctly but I ordered Fried noodle with egg and chicken and when I started eating it I noticed there was calamari in it. I don't know if I accidentally got somebody else's order or if that's in there and they just don't tell you. We will probably give them another try and maybe eat there just to see if there's something different or missed out on something because we didn't stay we took our food to go. However I would prefer the drunken noodle at Casa burger over here so that's saying some thing. We'll see what next trip brings. read more

I was driving back home to Los Angeles and wanted to test out another red curry. Whenever traveling I seek out Thai restaurants because I love red curry so much...I've done so many times and on five continents. So I should know red curry by now. Yelp told me this was the place to eat. What I had at this place ranks among the very best I've had. The three areas where a red curry can suffer were nicely taken care of: The vegetables were cooked perfectly, the sauce was succulent with just the right amount of heat, and the portion was large. Some places skimp on the quality of the coconut milk but not here. I had a Thai ice tea and that was excellent, as well. I would have liked a brown rice but they had only white and fried rice. The cost was what I would expect in Southern California. I'll be back! read more
