I have visited China Buffet in Bastrop several times and have enjoyed the food every time. We always got the buffet and they have a good variety of items. When I received notification on my Too Good To Go app that China Buffet was offering a deal, I immediately knew I wanted to try it. It turned out to be an excellent deal. Only a couple of places in Bastrop are part of the Too Good To Go app, so I really appreciate that this place is. You cannot come pick up your deal until 8:30pm and when I got there one of the employees took a to go box and filled it up! I also got a container of soup. It was more than enough for two meals for me and I will definitely go back. Depending on where you live, the Too Good To Go app has some great deals! read more

I rarely am impressed with Chinese buffets so I believe I have a reasonable expectation level for these buffets. The food was pretty good, wasn't dried out from being left under the warmers too long. They have a decent size selection of food choices and everything I had was tasty. The servers were attentive and nice and I had an enjoyable lunch. This wasn't the best Chinese buffet I ever had but definitely wasn't the worsts; I'll be back! read more

I feel a bit bait and switched after stopping here for lunch. Every and all Chinese buffets usually charge by weight when doing to go orders and I didn't see anything that said they didn't do that. I ended up getting a very light plate as again, I made the assumption that this was a pay by the weight type of place but nope. I paid $17 for literally $4 worth of food and I'm disappointed. Ask them to clean the chairs because it has food and some liquid the girl just move the same chairs to another table and did not clean them. I'm not sure why all the reviews are all negative, you're paying for the convenience of a buffet and food is going to get cold. Food was alright, tasted good, most of it was hot if not warm. Service was good and they were quick. Ambiance was also just good, they had no music in the background. Overall, it was a decent experience and it wasn't as bad as most of these people made it seem. I have to say I was extremely impressed today about my experience here with both the level of take out precautions due to COVID-19 and the quality of food that we had. Big portions and great value. I will be honest... I've been here twice before for the buffet and I thought "okay". I've ordered off their menu and was a lot more satisfied when I did. We ordered here today because it's been awhile since we treated ourselves to take out due to what's going on in the world right now. I called in our ordered, order was placed and when we arrived it was pretty much as contactless as it could be. They have the restaurant closed off except for a small window where you pay on your side and the gentleman slides your food out the window. They do require you to wear a mask... Which I'm totally fine with. Our food.... House special Fried Rice and the combination platter of Szechuan beef that comes with an egg roll were hot, fresh and delicious. This is American Chinese food but it's so comforting especially right now when everything is changing daily. The Szechuan beef is a little sweet but does have a nice spiciness to it too. The House fried rice has chicken, Chinese BBQ pork and shrimp.... Not too heavy. I'm so glad to see them open and honestly I think they will do even better with the take out service than the buffet due to freshness and taste. This place is disgustingly filthy. Took my kids because they wanted crawfish and when we walked up to the front door, both glass doors were Completely covered in smeared hand prints from top to bottom. They were not "fresh" prints either, you could tell the glass hadn't been cleaned in a very long time. Because they wanted the crawfish I agreed to go in, regretfully. Once we got to the table it wasn't clean and the glass divider between tables was equally as filthy. It completely boggles my mind that a place which is a Buffett is so disgustingly filthy. My kids got some crawfish and asked what is that slimy yellow stuff inside of them and I explained that was guts and poop from the crawfish and that they hadn't been properly cleaned (purged). Because. I grabbed a plate of food that I didn't eat and they grabbed some crawfish that they didn't eat it still cost me $50 and we simply walked out and then went to another Resturant to eat dinner. This is one of the times where the reviews are a bit below where they should be. But in all fairness, I admit right on my Yelp profile that I have a thing for cheap Americanized Chinese food. And China Buffet did a perfectly "A-OK" job of satisfying my cravings. The buffet may be a bit more limited than some of the big buffets in Austin, but the usual classics are there. None of them stand out, but all are perfectly serviceable Chinese classics. What bumps this up from a perfectly acceptable "meh, I've experienced better" 2 star review were the friendly staff. Both the host who seated me and the server who cleared my table were friendly and seemed genuinely happy to take care of me. Buffet is a typical Chinese buffett....lots to select from and reasonable prices....food tasted good enough to go back for seconds ....can be a busy spot here especially at lunch hour when a lot of hungry workers come in here to fill up..yes they do have precautions and signs stating masks and gloves are required at the buffet however; like the mandate for masks in Bastrop County , it is not enforced ( check HEB or Walmart any day for that) ...majority of customers wore no gloves when serving themselves........no blame on the owners ; but it just shows why it is no surprise that the USA has the most cases and deaths from Covid in the world... read more

I've been to this restaurant many, many times, because now and again I really like to strap the ole feed bag on and it's one of the few buffet choices we have here in Bastrop. It's kinda hit and miss with this place. I like shrimp, and there are a lot of shrimp choices among their entrees...deep fried, pan fried, several stir fry types, and usually boiled shrimp. Most of it is pretty tasty. Their chicken and beef entrees are usually pretty good. I think their unsweet iced tea is great. I like the baked salmon, the hard boiled eggs (hard to mess those up but I like that they offer them), their greasy fried potatoes, the sriracha sauce on the table...there's no shortage of things I like, except... The sushi. Sometimes they can be super slow to replenish it when it starts to run low. They generally have shrimp, eel, tuna and salmon to go with the california rolls and a couple other types I don't have a name for. Tonight they had two pieces of shrimp left when I got there, among the kinds I really like, and in the time I took to eat two plates of food, they still hadn't replenished it. I went and got one more plate (I know, I'm a pig) and while I was eating that, they finally marched out with more sushi. I was a bit too full to bother at that point. I think there's also a bit of a shortage of vegetable offerings. They offer the standard green beans, which are usually good when they're fresh, and I can pick some broccoli out of the chicken and broccoli if I want, but other than that there's just this really sad iceberg lettuce salad mix, a tomato cucumber salad (drowned in Italian dressing), and some fruit. Some steamed veggies would sure be nice, or I dunno, just something a little healthier. Their napkin dispensers are horrible. They have those spring loaded types that you have to fight with to get a napkin, and you can't get just one without tearing it. Boo. Well, what else. Nice hot water in the restrooms, I like that. A few of the waitresses are very pretty, nothing wrong with that. The service is generally decent, you know, not much to do except take plates away, fill the tea glass now and then and bring a check, but they get it done. Worst Chinese buffet I have ever had the displeasure of visiting... As I travel often, Chinese buffets are generally a safe bet, serving generally the same sort of options, except this one. One word: DISASTER. At 5:30 pm, when the food should be fresh for a dinner crowd, everything was, I can only conclude, left over from lunch. EVERYTHING was cold, except the items that were supposed to be cold... those were at room temp at best. Even the staples, like rice and lo mein were terrible. The only thing edible from my entire overpriced meal were the pre packaged items like egg rolls and rangoons (if you're okay eating those cold). Do yourself a favor and avoid this place. Stopped by during work the other day for a quick lunch. Not very impressed. The food was mediocre and not very hot. 1) Fried rice - did not appeared to be fried. Looked and tasted like they added some yellow food coloring and some vegetables to white rice and called it "fried". 2) My coworker said that the fish was cold. $10 per person.
