They recently changed the eggrolls here and they're awful! Made me vomit within two minutes of eating them- they used to be flaky and delicious and now they taste like gas station egg rolls or from a box. If I could give it 1 star I would. This was my first time here, we walked in and was told there would be no service, they told us dining room is open but no service for customers, food will be in to go boxes and there are cans and bottles of water for sale. Ok.e I was on a table taped looking over it I just plates that I was familiar with I ordered 4 items, 1 order of sesame chicken, 1 order of orange chicken, 1 combo lomein and crab Rangoons. Total came out to like $62. Food came out my sesame chicken was so spicy I couldn't even eat it, there were pepper seeds on the chicken. The orange chicken for my child has seeds from a pepper on there as well. I informed the lady at the front like hey this is wayyyy to SPICY for me and my child so there a way I can get something else or get a refund? She put her manager on the phone and had her speak to me, the manager said I should have known it was spicy. Any Chinese place I ever been to orange is on the sweet side not spicy side. She offered me half a refund on the plates which I don't feel is reasonable bc I had not eaten anything. Horrible service the food wasn't nasty at all it was too spicy and the service was RIDICULOUS. I'm really surprised by the reviews here. I found the food barely edible, and I'll generally eat anything that's not moving. The egg roll was greasy, the filling bland and overly salty at the same time. The fried rice was overcooked, and also greasy. The crab rangoon was similarly greasy, and as far as I could tell the filling was just strait creme cheese- kind of gross, not tasty at all. The hot and sour soup was neither, and when I asked for some vinegar to add to it to get it more sour, was told they didn't have any (which might explain the soup- the sour is provided by vinegar). I've had better out of a packet. My meal was so generic, and uninspired that I honestly can't remember what I ordered, and normally I can tell you exactly what I ate at any given restaurant years afterwards. I think it was beef? The sauce was strait from a can, perhaps even a powder. The best way to describe it was congealed. I don't think there was a single thing that didn't come out of a can or a freezer bag in the back. I'm in Giddings every other week, and I've had better meals scraped together out of Buckeey's offerings. That's the gas station across the street. I'm incredibly dissapointed in this restaurant, as I was hoping to have a yummy place to eat in Giddings that was close to where I need to be. I'm out there all the time and don't really have a good go-to place to eat, and I wanted this to be it. On the plus side, I didn't get food poisoning, which has happened at a few other places in Giddings. I don't think "Well, this food is safe enough to eat and won't make me sick" is a strong enough recommendation. Young lady working at front that answered my call was very rude, called 3 times just to get my order in, when i went to pick it up, there was a sign thats says she was accepting donations for face masks, i asked her a couple questions about it she was rude on answering my questions. This is our choice for Chinese food in the Giddings area. The service is friendly and the food is always good. It's kind of strange that it's the only Chinese restaurant I've ever been to that doesn't serve General Tso's chicken, but their sesame chicken is pretty much the same thing. The moo shu pork is consistently good and my wife likes the shrimp with lobster sauce as a gluten-free option. Prices are reasonable and food comes out quickly. They do close between 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. so make sure to check your watch before popping in for a late lunch or early dinner. read more

Excellent food. The cook knows how to season food. It was freezing cold so we ordered soup to begin. It was only 1.50$ each. We had the egg drop and hot & sour soup. Both were very good. Good flavor. Balanced seasoning. For the entrees we had orange chicken and beef with asparagus. Very good also. For the 2 of us, the bill, including tax and a generous tip was 30$. First let me say that the food was great, the staff was friendly, and the place was pretty busy. Being from out of town, I've never eaten here before. Unfortunately, I don't believe I'll be going back. My biggest problem was their prices. $13 for a plate of food? Not exactly ideal. But the real kicker was the portions. Every time we visit my husbands family we go to Hunan. We have been going to Hunan for at least the past 10 years and it is always good!!! Each of the family members has their favorite, my personal favorite is the combination fried rice and it is by far the best fried rice I have ever had!!! The egg rolls and the Won-ton soup is always really good too, I also like the crab Ragoon's. My husband is a fan of the moo goo gi pan. The restaurant could use some updating it is your basic Chinese restaurant environment but at least it is always clean. Driving into Round Top we always look for places to eat. McDonald's just wouldn't be an option after a long day of shopping. This trip we returned to Hunan. Despite being in a strip plaza in a remote part of the state, this was satisfying. The portions are generous and the food is of good quality. I live in Bastrop and work in Giddings. Generally I bring my lunch to work, but today I decided to go out to lunch for a change of pace. I've previously been to the Chinese buffet in Giddings, and almost went there, but I knew I'd eat way too much and feel bad about myself, so I decided to try out Hunan instead. I knew I wanted a lunch special so I could get an eggroll and soup. I didn't see sesame chicken as a special, so I finally decided on sweet and sour shrimp after ruling out lemon chicken. I asked for hot and sour soup with my meal, and water and hot tea to drink. Soup was brought out almost immediately. The soup was tasty but was mostly broth ... I only had a few spoonfuls of tofu, mushrooms, etc. and then was left with a bowl of liquid. That would have been okay if they provided fried wonton strips with it as some other Chinese restaurants do, but as it was, most of the soup wasn't worth eating. It also had bits of stringy meat (pork) in it, which I picked out since I don't like meat in my hot and sour soup. My tea came out shortly after the soup, it was fine, though the small ceramic teapot did not pour cleanly so I ended up getting some tea on the table every time I refilled the cup. It was still nice to have some hot tea ... I most likely wouldn't have ordered soda since they had it in cans rather than from a fountain. When my main dish arrived I was surprised that it was such a small portion. One scoop of rice and a few shrimp, with an eggroll on the side. The eggroll was greasy and umami-tasting, and seemed homemade as the filling was mostly cabbage, ground meat, and sprouts. The shrimp tasted fairly fresh, and the batter wasn't overly hard or greasy. I saw a vein in one of the shrimp through the breading and removed it, not sure if the others were deveined or not (what I don't know can't hurt me, right?). There was also a good-sized piece of sweet and sour chicken in with my shrimp, which was okay with me, but might not be okay with a pescetarian (hey, it's the new millenium, I'm sure even Giddings has them). The fried rice was decent and seemed fresh. The waitress had asked whether I wanted the sauce on the side and I declined, but that probably would've been best because my shrimp and rice were swimming in sweet and sour sauce, but it was hard to get any sauce on my eggroll. The portion turned out to be adequately filling, I guess it's just that I usually leave food on the plate/have leftovers from Chinese meals. I may or may not be back to Hunan ... like I said, I usually bring my lunch to work, and I don't live in Giddings. read more

This is my favorite Chinese place of all time. My regular order is wonton soup, egg roll and beef and broccoli. It is the best ever. Other good items are the combination lo mein, mamas chicken, hot and spicy chicken, and the hot and sour soup. The portions are huge and delicious, there are always leftovers. You are given the option of fried or white rice, and the lunch specials can't be beat. Judge the place by the crowd that is always squeezed in the place. Take out is also convenient. Took my sweetheart out to dinner here. Started out with the egg drop soup and she the wonton soup. Egg drop was great, but the wonton lacked any flavor. We shared the Flaming Appetizer which consisted of 2 butterfly shrimp, 2 fried wontons,2 chicken wings, 2 sesame fish,2 egg rolls and 4 beef sticks. I must admit, bringing it out to our table it sure looked appetizing. It was okay...beef sticks were cold. She had the Neptune Platter with shrimp,scallops and crispy vegetables which she found quite bland. I had the szechuan shrimp which was outstanding! I have had this dish at other establishments and had maybe 6-7 shrimp...I counted 1 and a half dozen! Both were served with 3 heaping scoops of sticky rice which was cooked to perfection! I have been going to Hunan for the better part of 20 years, and it has continually gotten worse. The staff today is decent overall, but a far cry from what it used to be like. Our most recent take out order was a simple one....chicken and scallops in garlic sauce with fried rice on the side. My wife's order was a simple beef fried rice and an eggroll. My order came with almost no chicken and my wife received combination fried rice. Sorry, but the word "beef" and the word "combination" sound nothing alike. When we called to tell them they made a mistake they told my wife that they repeated the order back to us which was definitely not the case. I will continue going to Hunan, but only for lunch because that seems to be the only time they pay attention to the customer. read more
